Your Reject of the Race - Bahrain!
Friday has come to an end, so you know what that means: that's right, it's time for Your Reject of the Race! Nominate whoever you think has been Rejectful so far.
However, here is a special proviso for Bahrain only: Virgin, Hispania and Lotus are immune. You may not vote for any of the new teams or their drivers, even if they are eleven seconds off the pace. The reason why is because a) they've already made a gargantuan effort to get here and b) they were never going to be competitive. They deserve to be applauded, not branded as Rejects.
That said, if they do something stupid - like drive around the circuit the wrong way - you an nominate them. You just can't cite a bad lap time as being Rejectful.

okay, okay...
Buemi it will be then, for being outpaced by Alguersuari.
Does this mean I have to adjust my prediction in the predictions thread?

You obviously didnt read the rules, Pheonix

Jenson Button.
I like the guy, but he'll get immediately taken down a peg or two by Lewis.

So far, it's the bumps at turns 6-7. They've already caused some danger.

For now I'm gonna go with Renault given that they're throwing the toys out the cot again with McLaren's technological innovation.

Schumacher. He's going to run into the back of someone at Turn 1.
Re: Your Reject of the Race - Bahrain!
The FIA - why can't they be pragmatic about McLaren's air intake - allow it for this race and then ban it from Melbourne onwards. Then at least all the other teams won't have to attack their cars with hacksaws to get the same advantage.
They should've done the same with wheel covers a couple of years ago. Common sense, not that difficult really.

Sorry, just read the rules. I nominate Virgin, HRT and Lotus. You don't need to tell us how to think.

Good to know, thanks. I understand from the series' homepage he will be joined by Indycar one-time winner Felipe Giaffone (and Bruno Junqueira! and Gastón Mazzacane! and someone called Geraldo Piquet!) in the series. Truck racing must have a pretty high status in Brazilian motorsports then? (Sorry to hijack the thread like this!)

The new extension on the circuit, it looks impossible to overtake there.
I like the way Snrub thinks!

That's not what it's there for, though. It shifts the aero balance of the circuit as a whole to a higher-downforce setup, which should in turn give (hopefully) more pronounced slipstreams on the straights. It probably won't help, though.

To be fair to him, he took it with good grace, all things considered.
Meanwhile, since the Captain doesn't want us to nominate the new teams, we are going to have to look further afield. Toro Rosso seem to have fallen back in FP2, whilst Red Bull are looking pretty fragile. Meanwhile, Reanult have slipped back, and Ferrari were surprisingly quiet.
Overall, though, the new track section does look like it'll be worth putting forwards; Webber was supposed to have audibly groaned when he saw it, and was pretty unimpressed, complaining that it was dull: "accellerate, brake, slow corner, accelerate, brake, slow corner, accelerate, brake, another slow corner" as he dismissively put it.
Martin Brundle, on watching a replay of Grosjean spinning:
"The problem with Grosjean is that he want to take a look back at the corner he's just exited"

Jacques Villeneuve, on BBC Radio5 Live's race commentary team. I think he'll suck but be secretly relieved he isn't in the HRT.
Re: Your Reject of the Race - Bahrain!
Again just so no-one comes down on anyone like a tonne of bricks
, I thought that this was NOT a guessing game/prediction thread. I thought this was a thread for nominating someone as Reject of the Race (and therefore giving Kuwashima and me some valuable suggestions for when we make our decision) for something they had already done. Just in case anyone's new to this type of thread.
Right ... but at the same time wrong, Captain. We applaud because they are rejectful! And we love them for it!

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Bahrain!
I will do whatever the hell I like and nominate HRT.
Yeah, they were going to be slow anyway, but think about this...
Senna was a tenth faster than a GP2 car.
Considering the much lower power output of the GP2 Renault V8 compared to the F1 Cossie, it could easily have gone faster with the same engine.
The fact they created a car worse than one that was deliberately desinged to be slower than an F1 equivalent is rejectful in itself.
If it even finishes the race as a classified runner it will be the equivalent of winning the race to them.
They won't manage it though, it'll shear more parts than a Lancia Beta in the first 10 laps.

The track! Who tought it was a good idea to put a part of the Hungarian track in it. Big yawn...
Chandock and Senna schould be ruled out from rejectdom this race. Really, driving the HRT (or being involved with) is bravery.

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Bahrain!
I don't buy the immunity. If they've done something monumentally stupid, they deserve to get the ROTR. But it would take something monumental, such as not having a big enough fuel tank, or sending a driver out to the race with the tires on the wrong ends of the car, or something truly rejectful. It's all about perspective.

Despite the fact that there's almost nothing to separate them? Sure, Hamilton might have set a faster lap time in the sessions, but when you look at al[ of their laps, they're pretty close.

No, I don't need to. But this year I'm toying with actually couting up the votes after the race, and I'll just dis-count any votes for the new teams on the basis of their lap times. I don't think it's fair to deride them as Rejects simply because the're slow even though they've put in twice the effort of the 2009 teams.

... but I stand by my claim that if there is true rejectdom around, they shouldn't be given a break. I mean, do you think that Andrea Moda was rejectful on the first race weekend? You're damn straight they were. Let's use historical precedents here.

Red Bull is below par, and reliability issues are emerging again, as they did last year.
Virgin is getting throughly beaten by Lotus.
What the heck happened to Barrichello in FP2? (to be honest, Hulkenberg shot a set of sift tyres to post that time, might have contributed to the difference)

I'm gonna say stuff the no new teams voting rule and throw Bruno Senna's name in the ring for the reason Mario posted on another thread:

My friend Josh's nickname for the new part of the Bahrain circuit, which I cannot repeat on the forum because it is not polite for a family friendly site like F1Rejects.com, but it is a short version of the name Richard.

It may be boring and slow, but it should screw with the balance of cars, a la Interlagos. I think that's the intention. Either that or inducing nausea on behalf of drivers and viewers.
(Keep in mind that I haven't seen this section of track yet.)

All of the new teams were going to be off the pace, regardless of who it was that got chosen. It's the natureof the beast considering they have no data to work with in building a car from scratch.

Of course, in the interests of integrity, independence, impartiality and fairness, Kuwashima and I won't be taking a populist approach in ultimately deciding who really gets ROTR!
