F1 2000 - Schumacher brothers dominate early season
Re: F1 2000 - Engine signing
It's engine signing time!
Now, you all need engines, and there are more engines available than there are teams on the grid - so this shouldn't be a huge problem. How will you play it - will you spend slightly more for a works deal, then develop your engine, or settle for a competitive customer engine?
Again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Sauber will use a legacy Ferrari engine for this season and re-badge it to Red Bull for sponsorship purposes.

RNG the Second!
Ferrari (works) engines will naturally go to Ferrari.
Mercedes (works) engines only have one offer on the table, and will power McLaren.
BMW (works) are new to the sport, and have two suitors; both of them former Renault customers:
- 1-50: Benetton rekindle a once fearsome partnership with the German engine supplier.
- 51-100: Williams offer BMW a genuine chance to challenge for World Championships.
48 - after careful consideration, BMW choose to work with Benetton once again.
Ferrari (legacy) engines are another popular choice, reflecting the clout of the Italian team.
- 1-60: Sauber continue to use these engines with Petronas badging (not Red Bull, sorry).
- 61-85: Arrows become the new recipients of the engines, running them with Orange badging.
- 86-100: Ferrari get over their bad blood with Alain Prost, and run the engines with Acer badging.
66 - Sauber are left feeling very affronted as Arrows take their engine supply.
Jaguar (works) engines are essentially the new face of the Ford-Cosworth works programme.
- 1-55: Continue the partnership with Stewart, in spite of the failed take-over bid earlier in the winter.
- 56-95: Work with Jordan, who nearly propelled Heinz-Harald Frentzen to the 1999 World Championship.
- 96-100: Wait and see if 1999 wooden-spoon BAR come through with an offer.
25 - Stewart continue their engine partnership, and will be Stewart-Jaguar for 2000.
Mugen (works) were surprisingly popular, despite rumours that this could be their last season. Suitors included:
- 1-60: They continue to work with Jordan after a hugely successful 1999.
- 61-80: Prost rekindle their old relationship from the pre-Peugeot days.
- 81-90: Minardi make a big step up the pecking order.
- 91-100: BAR keep them on notice while they wait on Honda engines.
12 - We will see another year of Jordan-Mugen on the grid.
Honda (works) engines are coming to the grid after the parent company chooses not to enter a full-works team.
- 1-60: British American Racing get the works engine they need to move up the grid.
- 61-100: Prost change engine suppliers yet again, in the hope of rebuilding as a team.
5 - The grid says hello to BAR-Honda.
Supertec (customer) engines go to both Minardi (rebadged as Fondmetal) and Prost (rebadged as Acer) respectively.
However: Sauber and Williams still both need engines, as their single bids did not come through. Still available are:

However: Sauber and Williams still both need engines, as their single bids did not come through. Still available are:
- Brian Hart (works) - This would allow for Petronas to keep supplying Sauber engines, or for Williams to become a factory team. It's the cheapest works deal you'll ever get.
- Ford (customer) - Pretty cheap and reliable, but not very quick.
- Ford (legacy) - The ideal engine to power the team lawnmower. Not so much their F1 cars though.
- Peugeot (works) - Admittedly, they're not looking like being great engines, but there's a bit Peugeot budget behind it and they want to improve.
Re: Formula One 2000 - Engine signing (peteroli34 please)

Brian Hart (works) is suddenly in demand!
- 1-35: An offer to work with Petronas to build Sauber engines.
- 36-100: A rare chance to put his engineering skills to use with a front-of-the-grid budget.
67 - Hart is tempted by the opportunity to build in-house Williams engines in the year 2000.
Sorry Sauber, but you now have three options:

Sorry Sauber, but you now have three options:

Re: F1 2000 - Driver Signing (Phase Two)
Driver Signing: Phase Two
Okay, so our pre-season bits and bobs are nearly done: the last bit is the second and final round of driver signing!
First things first, these are the seats that need to be filled:
Now, the reserve driver role is an exciting opportunity, especially for a big team. What if Ferrari, for instance, decides that Fabrizio Gollin is the hero the Italian people didn't know they needed? Well, they might want to sign him up as a reserve driver and throw money at him with driver improvement tests until he's good enough for a race seat, because he sure isn't yet.
There is also the chance to sign someone to your reserve driver seat who isn't on the list of available drivers. Perhaps Prost might go full-French and pluck Julien Beltoise out of nowhere because of who his dad was. This wouldn't be possible for a race seat, but for a reserve seat could be made to work.
Anyway, that's enough words. Get picking drivers!

Question - with the exception of driver improvement (and a ready made option should one of your drivers suffer injuries) do reserve drivers help with testing?

Jordan
Seats in the top teams are running out but we believe we have a car capable of fighting for podiums and maybe an odd win here and there. Therefore we'd like to ask some drivers for pay-cut because we can't afford to provide them a seat otherwise.
1. Frentzen - 9m (Remember last season, HH?)
2. Irvine - 9m (A little understanding for fellow Irish?)
3. Fisichella - 7,5m (Benetton's glory days are over, we have the better package)
4. Button
5. Zonta
6. Salo - 5,5m (We guarantee you won't be No.2 here)
Reserve:
Nakano
Ralph Firman (if he can pay us)
Takagi
Tomas Enge (if he can pay us)

RNG the Third!
Jos Verstappen, out of F1 last year testing for Honda, has only one offer. He becomes Arrows first driver.
Sebastien Bourdais also found himself the unlikely recipient of a testing offer:
- 1-80: Takes up a testing role with BAR.
- 81-100: Chooses not to be distracted from his rookie year in F3000.
27 - Bourdais becomes BAR reserve at the bargain cost of 1.0.
Yuji Ide has also been plucked from mediocrity with the offer of a Minardi testing role.
- 1-70: Will test for Minardi
- 71-100: Will remain in Japanese Formula 3, where he has yet to score a single point.
6 - From absolutely nowhere, Ide becomes the reserve driver at Faenza.
Originally, his responses were in Japanese, but that broke our fragile forum software.
David Coulthard also seems quite popular, with offers from three British-based teams:
- 1-60: Remains with McLaren as second driver.
- 60-90: Takes the offer to lead the Benetton team.
- 91-100: The proud Scotsman waits to see if an offer will come through from Stewart.
75 - Benetton snag an unlikely scalp in a new team leader.
Heinz-Harald Frentzen is in two minds with the offers in his in-tray;
- 1-50: Remains with Jordan after a phenomenal 1999, but with a huge pay cut and Villeneuve as his new team-mate.
- 51-100: Chooses to cut and run, joining Stewart as their well-paid team leader.
98 - There was no doubt in the mind of the new Stewart leader.
Mika Salo, so impressive at Ferrari last year, has earned himself two offers:
- 1-70: Joins Frentzen at Stewart.
- 71-100: Leads the Minardi team.
11 - It was never in doubt.
This means that Olivier Panis will lead Minardi.
Eddie Irvine has only one offer, despite being the runner-up in last year's Championship:
- 1-60: Accepts a huge pay cut to drive for Jordan this year.
- 61-100: Decides he can become a richer man elsewhere.
66 - Amazingly, last year's runner-up is without an F1 seat at present.
Giancarlo Fisichella has two offers:
- 1-30: Accepts a pay cut to return to drive for Jordan.
- 31-100: Remains at Benetton, on full pay.
34 - Again, Jordan's lack of funds count against them as Fisi remains at Benetton.
Pedro de la Rosa and his Repsol chequebook are also in demand:
- 1-60: Takes his money to a very reputable team in Williams.
- 60-90: Continues his stint with Arrows.
- 91-100: Waits on the details of a possible Minardi offer.
3 - de la Rosa will race for Williams.
Jenson Button has three offers:
- 1-40: Takes a race seat at Arrows.
- 41-90: Becomes the new Damon Hill at Jordan.
- 91-100: Continues his development by testing at Stewart.
37 - Jenson takes Arrows's second seat.
Therefore, Ricardo Zonta becomes Jordan's second driver.
Enrique Bernoldi has been Sauber's reserve driver all along, but I may have forgotten to mention it.
Tora Takagi has been in some demand:
- 1-10: Waits to see if his 1999 employers have a testing role for him.
- 11-30: Signs up as a tester for Benetton in the hope one of their drivers falls ill or something.
- 31-60: Takes up the offer of a race seat at lowly Minardi.
- 61-65: Waits to see if he can get a test with Prost.
- 66-85: Agrees to test with Williams to see what a top F1 team looks like.
- 86-100: Fed up with the offers available to him, he returns to Super Formula.
15 - Takagi becomes the Benetton test driver.
Gaston Mazzacane is a popular man; I can only presume this is for his Telefonica money.
- 1-20: Agrees to test for Arrows.
- 21-60: Turns the Minardi car bright yellow with his sponsorship.
- 61-80: Signs up as Prost's tester.
- 81-100: Agrees to make cups of tea for Jackie Stewart, and occasionally drive his cars.
87 - Mazzacane will be the Stewart reserve driver.
Fabrizio Gollin also has a few offers:
- 1-20: He'll test for Arrows, who need his money.
- 21-40: He'll test for Prost, who need his money.
- 41-100: FORRRRRZA FERRRRRARI, FORRRRRZA FIORRRIAAAANO.
45 - An actual Italian will test for Ferrari. Who'd have thought.
Shinji Nakano has four suitors for his money:
- 1-25: Arrows want him...
- 26-50: Jordan want him...
- 51-70: Prost want him...
- 71-100: ... and Williams want him.
55 - The lowliest of his suitors ends up with his signature. Weird.
Jorg Muller becomes Williams reserve.
And Ralph Firman becomes Jordan reserve, bringing 0.5 of Epson sponsorship as well as his skills.
- - -
The only team with a race driver seat still outstanding is MINARDI. Those drivers possibly eligible and still unattached are:
Jos Verstappen, out of F1 last year testing for Honda, has only one offer. He becomes Arrows first driver.
Sebastien Bourdais also found himself the unlikely recipient of a testing offer:
- 1-80: Takes up a testing role with BAR.
- 81-100: Chooses not to be distracted from his rookie year in F3000.
27 - Bourdais becomes BAR reserve at the bargain cost of 1.0.
Yuji Ide has also been plucked from mediocrity with the offer of a Minardi testing role.

The only team with a race driver seat still outstanding is MINARDI. Those drivers possibly eligible and still unattached are:
- Soheil Ayari
- Luca Badoer
- Luciano Burti
- Markus Friesacher
- Marc Gene
- Marc Hynes
- Eddie Irvine
- Michael Krumm
- Patrick Lemarié
- Jan Magnussen
- Ricardo Mauricio
- Alex Zanardi

Um, I know it was a surprising result and all, but I think you missed out McLaren's 2nd driver bids for Frentzen and Fisichella after Coulthard decided to leave.

My bad; I perhaps shouldn't do RNG at 2am. Will edit that all back in in a moment unless you want to take Eddie Irvine?
Re: F1 2000 - Driver Signing (Phase Two - Normal32 please)
Nope, Irvine is slightly too expensive.
Unless he can take a pay cut being without a seat, and race for 15m.

Re: F1 2000 - Driver Signing (Phase Two - Normal32 please)
RNG the Third (and a bit)
First of all, we have Eddie Irvine's offer from McLaren.
- 1-75: Irvine takes a 25% cut to his exorbitant salary and signs with a front-running team.
- 76-100: Fml, I have to re-do all that RNG.
73 - It's a very close-run thing, but Irvine eventually acquiesces to a small cut in salary to drive at McLaren.
Also, Markus Friesacher will take on the second seat at Minardi, despite failing to make the grid in his IF3000 campaign last year. This can only go well...
