Please check yourself

Post by Stefangp »

I know this is very off topic and in a sensitive area (in more ways than one) and it's rather preachy too, but in my position, I can slightly.

About 2 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer and I left the hospital over the weekend (just in time to watch the race. I shouldn't have bothered!) after having the operation to have the testicle with the tumour in removed. (The wonderful UK NHS! 8 days after diagnosis and it's removed) Fortunately, I caught it VERY early and I'm just waiting for the lab results to see if I have to have any other treatment and to see if it has spread. So all indications at the moment are that I've been very lucky.

Now, the reason why I'm posting this on here is that this cancer is likely to affect men of an age who I presume are on this forum. (Myself being 25 so I assume the majority of people on here are the same.) As I'm a huge F1 Rejects fan (been listening since Melbourne 2006 would you believe!) and I'm only relatively new on the forum, I still class myself as part of the F1 Rejects community.

So, I urge you all the check yourself for any lumps on your testicles that shouldn't be there and go to your doctors. Yes, the examples of Lance Armstrong and John Hartson prove that if the cancer has spread to a dangerous level, there is an extremely good chance of survival. But don't wait until then to put yourself and you're loved ones through that pain.

Preaching over with. Now for a little nap in my SGP shirt as my painkillers are quite strong and drowsy.

Edit - Actually, whoever's the first out of Kuwa, eytl, Carlos or hemo to see this, delete this post and lock this thread. Doesn't really need discussion.

Well said, best wishes for a speedy recovery.
"will you stop him playing tennis then?", referring to Montoya's famous shoulder injury, to which Whitmarsh replied "well, it's very difficult to play tennis on a motorbike"

I am locking this thread, but I do understand what you're going through to an extent. My aunt died from lung cancer over winter break.

Good luck and get well, my friend.
