An announcement about the site

Post by eytl »

Dear friends in the F1 Rejects community,

I have spoken with Jamie tonight. Due to current burdens and commitments, he will not be able to do any work in relation to this website and forum at least for the next few weeks.

Unfortunately, this means that the next episode of the F1 Rejects podcast will be postponed for the time being. Unless, that is, if you want to hear just my voice, opinions and attempts at humour, but let me assure you that that is a better cure for insomnia than anything that a spammer bot could advertise. (And, in truth, I don't have the time myself nor the tech skills to do a podcast as a lone ranger.) Race reviews for Bahrain and Australia have been written, and I may try to upload them in some form in the next few days. At the very least I may end up posting the text of the reviews onto the forum. Plus race reviews will continue to be written for the upcoming races as well. I cannot estimate when the Dave Walker profile will be uploaded.

Having had my own break from writing race reviews in the latter part of 2008, and until recently having had an extended break from researching and writing profiles, I can well understand the need, after over ten years of this website, for Jamie to take a hiatus and to hopefully be refreshed in his enthusiasm for all things F1 and reject-related. I trust that that is something you can understand as well.

I know that this may come as a disappointment to many of you, and for that I apologise. In the meantime, the F1 Rejects forum will remain fully functional.

Once again, I thank you all for your support of our website, podcast and forum. Never did we ever imagine, when we started the site and when we first podcasted, that something which was meant as a bit of a joke and a lark would strike a chord with so many people. I can confess that, prior to the first podcast in 2005, I thought to myself in the shower one night, "Wouldn't it be mildly amusing if I had a rant about how I'd like to see Zsolt Baumgartner back in F1?" I don't think I even told Jamie about it before I said it "on air". And from that it has snowballed to the point where we have created a cult following for the one, the only, the great HWNSNBM. Anyway, that's just a nostalgic aside. I mention it only because I am genuinely amazed at how our amateurish work has been received by all of you, and for that I thank you.

Don't worry, F1 Rejects is not dead. Hopefully, Jamie will be back with 'all guns blazing' sooner rather than later. He's simply taking a much-needed break right now. In the meantime, keep enjoying participating on the forums.

Cheers,
Enoch

Thanks for all your hard work. It's understandable to want a break with work commitments and children and the like.

In terms of podcasting, is there anyone here that could take the initiative to produce something. I'd like to hear Shinji or someone go ballistic over Karun Chandhok's performance, even it were only for a few minutes.

From a guy that used to run, update and manage a football results website, I can say that I know the feeling. And I did step down from those duties and let other people "run the show".

You guys have done an awesome job with the F-1 Rejects, so I also owe my thanks. It was good to read and remember some of the reject names of my early years of F-1 fan.

Indeed, perhaps this is the time to find people to aid in the tasks that are laid ahead.

Thank you very much (yet again) to both of you for all the work you put into this website. Jamie's break is well deserved. I guess the forum will keep the place alive. And the moderators will kick the spammers out on behalf of the team.
Thanks again. And I'm sure the return will be a happy one.

Yes, I think it would be a good idea to try a "guest pundit" from the forum.

True, great comedic partnership like Jamie and Enoch are built through the years, but I would enjoy a Enoch vs. Kostas or Enoch vs. Captain Hammer rant (or hear about the latest innovations from Mario).

In any case, thank you very much Jamie for all your great work!

I do think there are some people on the forum who would make a great addition to you 2 guys (not a replacement!) and could help the website going.
of course jamie and enoch will always be our heroes

(i'm actually pretty sure that over 20 years it will have a cult status which has never been seen before)

Funny you should say that...I once did a podcast with a guy called Edward Russell a few years ago. And no, you can't listen to it, because the only two copies in existence were both destroyed A) When Microsoft closed MSN Groups and B) When my old laptop had a BSOD and erased my hard drive.

eytl, I'm pretty sure you could get a big F1 Rejects Skype-Podcast-Party from the number of people on the forum due to enthusiasm. I'm really sure some people don't want to hear my somewhat-nasal midwestern-American accent on the podcast, but if asked I'd chip in.

That aside, Kuwashima's commitments are understandable. Thanks for the update, and I hope the podcast gets up sometime before the 3010 Martian Grand Prix.

I presume there's some sort of audio capture software that could be used to record this Skype conference? I'm not that bad at editing myself, I could probably take up Jamie's former role in that respect pretty well.

There is. a free one at that I believe. At another community of mine, unrelated to F1 tho, the site author runs a bi-weekly podcast roundtable via skype.

But yeah, I could also chip in on a podcast, after all we need SOMEONE to defend the Finnish honor :P

After 10 years of hosting the site, I can certainly understand the need to take a break.

As for getting forumgoers to fill in on the podcast, I quite like that idea. Although my allergy-induced constant sniffing might annoy some, I'd be willing to contribute as well.

I'd volunteer for something like this, but a) I'm not the most insightful person on Formula One, b) I don't have a ton of free time and c) my location in the Pacific Time Zone would probably screw up the timing for everyone else.

I'd give it a shot though.

After 10 years, a break is definitely warranted, i hope its a good'n

You guys tho, really do understate your abilities at humour. Its a very gentle and intellectual brand, the type you can muse over yourself, with everyone combining it with their own personal opinion over the top that can leave you chuckling sometimes for the majority to the day, as opposed to a comedian that relies on a punchline to get a laugh for a few moments before having to back it up with another, and then another and so on to keep attention.

Nehoo this combined with an interesting subject, well explained opinions & personality and the focus on the niche aspect (rejectom*) produces some very high quality content that me and the many people i have referred it to have enjoyed, its really been appreciated

If anything, I am surprised that Jamie has not had a break before - both of you have put in plenty of time and effort, and have more then earned the right to a bit of respite, especially since you have done all of this pro gratis. And given how the forums have been a roaring success, I'm sure that things will tick over nicely until Jamie comes back from his sabbatical.
Equally, the podcasts have been a welcome breath of fresh air, with all the publiciocrap around the place - more then once I have been laughing heartily thanks to your wisecracks (particularly throughout the ANTSMSW5PG episode), and although it is a touch sad that we will have to wait a little bit longer until we get the next one, I'm sure that we'll all be waiting patiently - or having a crack at it ourselves to fill the gap.

It certainly is an interesting idea - unfortunately, I am a little pressed for time myself at the moment, due to my workload, so might not be able to contribute myself, but I would look forwards to hearing the results.

Dear founders

Thank you for creating one of the best F1 sites on the net. As far as I am concerned, there is absolutely no need for you 2 to apologise for anything. I am new on the forum, bu I've been visiting your site for 8 yars now and I must thank you for the countless times your articles made me laugh or smile. You made following F1 a much more enjoyable experience. I hope you will enjoy yourselves with whatever you choose to do next, and that you will ceme back with even more enthusiasm than before.

Wow, I'm gone for 5 days and the excrement hits the air-blowing device.

I agree that this is a truly excellent site. My internet life consists of F1 Rejects, Facebook, YouTube and boards.ie, but F1R really is my favorite place on the interweb. As a result, since it's just run by two guys, it is only fair that they can take a break after 10 years of great output. Enjoy the vacation, and hopefully we'll be back to regular stuff in the not to distant future! I'm also interested in kostas' idea to have user-run podcasts. That'd be epic.

No worries guys, I think this is the right time for a break, this season is a turning out a little weird. I know it's hard churning out multimedia content for no monetary reward. The top Youtubers do it for a paltry $50k+ a year, and they're working 24/7.

Anyway, it's good to keep up with Enoch and his young baby on Flickr.

Boys, I stumbled across the F1 rejects podcast about a year ago whilst downloading other F1 podcasts such as the BBC 5 live version. I have to say the one I look forward to the most (by a long way) is the F1 rejects podcast. I listen to it in the car, whilst jogging and also it helps me get to sleep (don't take that the wrong way!!). You blend an impressive mix of alternative humour together with great knowledge of F1. Like you I've been following it for a few decades so can appreciate the memories you relay, together with an equally good insight into the present. When I first downloaded a podcast I at first thought you were attending each grand prix until it dawned on me that you're doing this as a 'hobby' whilst tens of thousands of miles away from the scene, using SKYPE whatever that is. So I thought I'd say thank you for a great pod cast, congratulations on what you've achieved so far, and here's to plenty more - I hope - in the future some time.
