Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary 2022
1. Aston Martin. Looked pretty decent out there.
2. George Russell. That Q3 lap came seemingly out of nowhere.

Mercedes - Pole for George, double podium, they're getting better every weekend

1. Mercedes for a 2-3 team finish
2. Verstappen because normally starting 10th in Hungary means finishing in the top 5 at best
3. Hamilton for finishing 2nd after starting 7th

Hamilton and Verstappen: 7th and 10th on the grid yet both charged through to 2nd and 1st. Max overcame a spin and Lewis came out of nowhere on a clever strategy
George Russell’s pole lap: What a mighty lap it was. That’s the first real “Mr Saturday” surprise I’ve seen from him.

Max Verstappen - Spin & Win.
95 GP / 63 DNF / 5 pts
Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary 2022
1) Max Verstappen: Made the most of a poor qualifying position and the increasing propensity for Ferrari to stuff themselves.
2) Mercedes: Looked consistently like the bigger threat over Ferrari during the race; good pole for Russell.

Hamilton & Verstappen for overcoming poor qualify
Tread lightly in ARWS. Every decision might be your last.
Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary 2022
Perhaps, in some senses, Alpine's double points looked rather improbable given the squabbling between their drivers and their poor strategy choices, although not quite in the spirit of this thread...
I'd agree that the Aston Martin duo were a surprise, given that they managed to turn a poor qualifying into a reasonably successful result in the race.

It's got to be Max! Title #2 might as well be in the bag now.
Honourable mention to Lewis and also to Vettel for scoring a point fresh off announcing his retirement.

Mercedes performance generally - pole, 2nd and 3rd place, Hamilton's fastest lap.
Alpine - for 8th and 9th on (allegedly) awful tyres.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary 2022
Max Verstappen for winning from 10th (even if I jokingly predicted that yesterday) – really a humiliating result for Ferrari. Also Mercedes for a double podium, pole and fastest lap.
Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary 2022
Pole to third in a race usually wouldn't be IIDOTR material, but George Russell was still in contention for the win for the first 75% of the race or so, which is unusual for this year's Mercedes.
Also Max and Lewis for racing from midfield to top 2 at "Monaco without the walls."

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary 2022
Gonna have to go with Max actually - no way did I expect a win from 10th round that track with no significant retirements in front. Even if Ferrari did screw up. Though it is a shame for the championship as he's now 80 points ahead but 2nd to 6th are covered by just 32 points - would be a great fight without him!

1. Verstappen. Ok okay, I know I did Ver for IIDOTR before and it technically shouldn't qualify, but Spin and Win. That is IIDOTR material right there. Also to win from 10th in Hungary counts for something.
2. Mercedes Solid race for the team, and Hamilton showing his fighting spirit.
HM: Hamilton and Verstappen having a chuckle together about Ferrari's strategy in the cool-down room. The colossal meltdown of Ferrari has actually brought two seemingly sworn enemies together.

1. Aston Martin - Decent pace and they're close to (somehow) overhauling AlphaTauri for 8th in the WCC.
2. Max Verstappen - MAX SPINS BUT MAX WINS!

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary 2022
I'm actually really hoping the two are not sworn enemies like many think and it's literally another Senna/Prost situation (with Verstappen being the Senna and Hamilton being the Prost), and the pair will actually get on really well once Hamiiton retires, as I'm sure Max sees his real main rival is still Hamilton rather than Leclerc. Some pundits (think it was mainly Herbert) are quite alarmed at the lack of respect both Max and his team are showing at that particular opposition which is definitely not the case with Leclerc and I think it will all work out once one of them is not racing then I think the rest will see Max as the target. I'd like to believe it anyway!dj_vicious wrote: ↑31 Jul 2022, 22:13 HM: Hamilton and Verstappen having a chuckle together about Ferrari's strategy in the cool-down room. Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary 2022
A rather bizarre list of IIDOTR candidates - a list so strange and probable that it is in itself an outside contender for Reject of the Race
however, the winner is not yet decided. 48 hours separate us from knowing who the Infinite Improbability Driver of the Race was in Hungary. Poll is at the top of this thread
