Jaroslav Juhan
1-20: returns to racing one last time, getting a last-minute flight from Guatemala City to drive the Fry
21-100: prefers to stay at home and leave the opportunity to someone else
96
Easiest decision of his life: Juhan will not be driving for Fry

Sture Nottorp
1-40: accepts Fry's offer of an F1 qualifying session
41-100: does not feel confident enough to make this his first go at either Zandvoort or single seaters
52
He prefers to just focus on his upcoming Le Mans entry.

"Beurlys"
1-60: makes his first single seater appearance with Fry
61-100: turned off by the prospect of driving a car that isn't a Ferrari, he turns down the offer
57
It's a close call, but Beurlys will be joining Mike Parkes in the two-car Fry operation in Zandvoort.

With permission from Tommy, here is a last minute entry for the Dutch GP for Cooper

Bruce McLaren will drive a Cooper T45 1 with a Climax FPF V2 engine

and Peter Collins will drive a Cooper T45 2 with a Climax FPF V3 engine

While we're at it, I'll be fully repairing the Cooper T45-4.

Radio Free Europe wrote: New Eastern Bloc team on the horizon?

Jerzy Jankowski, last year's winner of the Polish 1300cm^3 and 750cm^3 Championship, looks to enter his own cars in Formula 1!

Jankowski is the director of Warsaw-based Osrodek Budowy Samochodow Wyczynowych (OSBW for short), where he has already built 4 Formula 3-level cars - as the first real racing cars of the country, the cars have swept the Polish Car Racing Championship, winning all races of the season.

"Last year was a big success for us, and we're looking to go even higher this year", said Jankowski in an interview with a local newspaper. "We have plans to enter 2 brand new cars into the German Grand Prix, and expand our schedule for 1960 if the cars show promise."

The team doesn't yet have Formula 1-spec engines, but Jankowski is not discouraged. "We have received some financial help from the government, so getting engines shouldn't be a problem."

Despite the team's optimism about the cars themselves, Jerzy is worried about the driver's side of the team. "The drivers we have lined up are clearly talented, but the FIA might not see it that way - I hear they are quite strict on the licensing side."

The drivers have not yet been confirmed, but insider sources tell us the main candidates for the role are Jankowski himself and Longin Bielak. Despite Jankowski winning last year's Polish title, it was his first season in cars - though he has around a decade of experience in racing motorcycles. Bielak has more experience - having raced for a decade already, he won 3 Polish Championships between 1955 and 1957, and finished 2nd last year.

Whether the team gets off the ground remains to be seen.
I am displeased with the lack of commies on the grid, so here we are. :P

May 30th 1959, Dutch Grand Prix qualifying

Three races into the season and no driver has scored points more than once. With general unreliability being the major theme so far, we've also seen a very even playing field at the front with B.C.M.A., Ferrari, O.S.C.A., Voeckler and even Lotus all showing their worth. With a repeat of 1955 on everyone's hands but few potential contenders off the board, we're likely to see someone take out a real lead in Zandvoort. Who will it be?

1. Carel Godin de Beaufort (Ecurie Maarsbergen) - O.S.C.A. F156A chassis 12, O.S.C.A. 1557 engine 3
2. Rob Slotemaker (Slotemaker Garage) - Cooper T45 chassis 5, Climax FPV IV engine 4
3. Mike Parkes (David Fry) - Fry F2 chassis 1, Borgward 1500 RS engine 1
4. Beurlys (David Fry) - Fry F2 chassis 2, Borgward 1500 RS engine 2
5. Jack Brabham (British Commonwealth Motorsport Association) - B.C.M.A. P.1101 chassis 1, B.C.M.A. Pegasus engine 1
6. John Surtees (British Commonwealth Motorsport Association) - B.C.M.A. P.1101 chassis 2, B.C.M.A. Pegasus engine 2
7. Stirling Moss (British Commonwealth Motorsport Association) - B.C.M.A. P.1101 chassis 3, B.C.M.A. Pegasus engine 3
8. Masten Gregory (Team Lotus) - Lotus 16 chassis 1, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 8
9. Alan Stacey (Team Lotus) - Lotus 16 chassis 2, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 9
10. Lex Davison (Team Lotus) - Lotus 16, chassis 3, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 10
11. Jim Russell (British Racing Partnership) - Cooper T45 chassis 3, BRM P26 engine 5
12. Honoré Wagner (Honoré Wagner) - Lotus 12 chassis 2, OSCA 1558 engine 11
13. Hernando da Silva Ramos (Officine Secializzate Costruzione Automobili) - O.S.C.A. F159 chassis 1, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 1
14. José Froilán González (Officine Specializzate Costruzione Automobili) - O.S.C.A. F159 chassis 2, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 2
15. Graham Hill (Officine Specializzate Costruzione Automobili) - O.S.C.A. F159 chassis 3, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 3
16. Jo Bonnier (Scuderia Ferrari) - Ferrari 246 chassis 1, Ferrari 143 engine 1
17. Phil Hill (Scuderia Ferrari) - Ferrari 246 chassis 2, Ferrari 143 engine 4
18. Gerino Gerini (Scuderia Ferrari) - Ferrari 246 chassis 4, Ferrari 143 engine 5
19. Roy Salvadori (Vandervell Products Ltd.) - Vanwall VW58 chassis 1, Vanwall VE2 engine 5
20. Wolfgang von Trips (Scuderia Centro-Sud) - O.S.C.A. F158 chassis 10, O.S.C.A. 1558 engine 14
21. Consalvo Sanesi (Scuderia Centro Sud) - O.S.C.A. F158 chassis 1, O.S.C.A. 1558 engine 1
22. Ulf Norinder (Ulf Norinder) - Ferrari 246 chassis 3, Ferrari 143 engine 6
23. Robert la Caze (Ecurie Voeckler) - Voeckler Type 57 chassis 2, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 6
24. André Simon (Ecurie Voeckler) - Voeckler Type 57 chassis 1, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 5
25. Fernand Tavano (Ecurie Voeckler) - Voeckler Type 57 chassis 3, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 7
26. Troy Ruttman (Owen Racing Organisation) - Lotus 12 chassis 4, BRM P26 engine 3
27. Olivier Gendebien (Owen Racing Organisation) - O.S.C.A. F156A chassis 13, BRM P26 engine 4
28. Stuart Lewis-Evans (Rob Walker Racing) - Lotus 12 chassis 5, O.S.C.A. 659 engine 4
29. Dan Gurney (Rob Walker Racing) - Lotus 12 chassis 6, O.S.C.A. 1558 engine 6
30. Bruce McLaren (Cooper Car Company) - Cooper T45 chassis 1, Climax FPF V engine 2
31. Peter Collins (Cooper Car Company) - Cooper T45 chassis 2, Climax FPF V engine 3
  • The Dutch contingent of de Beaufort and Slotemaker is back after the latter finished the French Grand Prix.
  • Despite the much smaller grid size, David Fry has brought two cars to Zandvoort. Mike Parkes is still in the first car, but the car loaned to Alain Dagan in France has been brought in-house for Belgian sportscar specialist Jean Blaton, a.k.a. Beurlys.
  • Surtees' third in Montlhéry put B.C.M.A. in the championship lead after Brabham's Monaco win, but only by a single point. They're clearly still rapid, but can the reliability come through?
  • Lotus' three-man squad has solidified, and Masten Gregory and particularly Alan Stacey have shown the Lotus 16 is more than capable.
  • The money must be running short for BRP after two collisions in two races, but Jim Russell is still here!
  • Honoré Wagner's deep pockets are still not leading to success, but his tenth place in France is his first finish so far.
  • O.S.C.A. are still second overall thanks to their Australian win, but poor luck lately (particularly for Ramos) will need remedying in the next few weeks.
  • Ferrari, meanwhile, have bagged their first win with Bonnier, but they still need to hope Hill and Gerini can provide adequate support.
  • Roy Salvadori's eighth place in France betrayed his competitiveness, running fifth early on. Vanwall's car may be a year old, but there's life in it.
  • France was a torrid race for Centro Sud and it'll be a struggle for them to qualify with only 22 spots, but von Trips has shown promise.
  • The least expected entry on the list is undoubtedly that of young Swede Ulf Norinder, whose early sportscar forays have been unremarkable. Jo Bonnier does vouch for him, which has allowed him a single-race licence for now, and he at least has competent machinery in the form of a title-winning Ferrari.
  • André Simon was well within a shot of winning the last two Grands Prix, making clear that Voeckler's new machine is once again a contender. While Tavano and Trintignant stand-in la Caze have proven competent, Simon now has a real chance to end his seven-year win drought.
  • The Owen roster has changed since France, with Ruttman's B.C.M.A. engine replaced by a BRM P26 inside the Lotus 12. The O.S.C.A.-BRM second car has also been restored, with Lotus refugee Olivier Gendebien picking up where Alan Stacey left off.
  • Rob Walker's hopes seemed low when González left for O.S.C.A., but Stuart Lewis-Evans has finally shown his promise from 1955 with a fifth place that could easily have been third. Gurney had his struggles in the pack, but don't count him out either.
  • Finally, Cooper almost missed the event entirely when a shake-up in their admin department led to the entry forms not being received by the organisers in time. Once this was realised, a force-majeure exception was requested and finally granted, leaving the entry list 30 cars strong.

30. Mike Parkes (Fry-Borgward) - 1:55.66
31. "Beurlys" (Fry-Borgward) - 1:56.60

That's the first pole position for both Alan Stacey and Team Lotus! Brabham and Moss, both with quite a few poles of their own, will line up next to him tomorrow. Ramos and González will occupy the second row in the O.S.C.A., while Ferrari come down to earth after their French GP performance with a 6-8-11 starting position. Collins, Simon and Surtees disappoint in particular, all qualifying behind the spectacular Jim Russell, who gets the BRP to thirteenth on the grid. Bruce McLaren getting up to twelfth and ahead of his teammate was a good performance too. Owen will not be happy with their weekend, both Ruttman and Gendebien failing to make the cut and ending up behind both Scuderia Centro Sud cars. Sanesi, meanwhile, found a bit of his old pace with a stellar pair of laps putting him on the grid. He may not get anywhere near another pole position, but he's got some juice left after all.

There has been word that the Dutch entries of de Beaufort and Slotemaker are petitioning the stewards to allow at least one of them onto the grid to garner more attendance and bolster the prize money pool. It is unclear whether this will come to pass.
