2010 Hungarian Grand Prix - Discussion

Not normally my job to start this thread but wanted to post this news story: Derek Warwick is to be driver steward this race!

I admit that recently I had sort of taken that role on, but I do not mind at all (it's nice to let someone else take over for a change). Yes, I'd just seen the news that Warwick was going to be the steward for this race - an interesting choice, but I think that he will prove to be a good choice.
For once, I am glad that the Hungaroring normally is a bit boring, and quiet - with the Massa/Alonso situation still dangling over proceedings, and the previous acrimonious headlines about Red Bull, for once I would actually be pleased if we had a quiet race to relieve some of the tension.

[Edit] Also, a little technical update for 2011 which is being announced this weekend (but which seems a bit trivial to open a new thread about). It seems that the FIA is going to upgrade the wheel tethers for 2011 after Liuzzi's accident - it seems that they are unhappy with how easily his rear wheel was lost.

10 minutes into FP1 and already Trulli's Lotus has caught fire

Just looked like a lot of smoke rather than an actual fire, as if something was overheating.

Autosport's saying it may have been a piece of overheating bodywork.
EDIT: As of about a minute ago Schumi stopped before pit exit because of some mechanical failure

And a few minutes ago, Petrol spun at the last corner, but got going again.

And Karun Chandok in on the BBC free practice coverage again alongside Anthony Davidson - Rejects unite (on BBC radio at least)!

According to FP1, Kubica AGAIN seems to be edging with the Red Bulls just like in Monaco.
I really, really hope he can catches up to the front at least here. He had bad luck with his car in Silverstone and he was far away from the leader pack in Hockenheim.

Oh, and for a fun fact: I'm Hungarian... just like HWNSNBM :D

Hehe... :D

Proof that I'm Hungarian, here's a sentence. Try to Google Translate it!
Tényleg magyar vagyok, ezt be is vallom itt.

It messes up a little bit, but it's GT's fault.

Now to turn back ontopic... you know, I hope it's going to rain. Remember, it was raining only once during a race, in 2006. Now, where I live (120 miles southwest from Hungaroring), it's cloudy, and really cold... like 18-20 C°. If the qualify session gets rain soaked, then we get a sunny race, it might turn things very interesting!

Or, alternatively, qualifying gets soaked, then the race does too. Better :)

The loss of experienced key personnel seems to taking it's toll. Shame; they were starting to look like a half decent team.

You'd have thought that Force India would have been even more careful with their tyre allocation after the mistake in Hockenheim - I have to agree with previous suggestions that the defection of several key team members has hit the team quite badly, and their performance has faded quite a bit. It seems to be particularly the case that the defecton of Robert Key has had a big effect - he was a very senior manager, and is rumoured to have worked wonders with the management structure of the Sauber team.
Meanwhile, guess who got a mention on the Radio 5 live teams coverage? Only HWNSNBM (because they were discussing how Kubica and Petrov have taken to this race as being amlost their home GP's (being the closest to their home nations), and he was namechecked as being the only Hungarian to have driven in F1).

Not much to report so far today except The Force removes Blown Diffuser from car.

Sort of like McLaren at Silverstone except nowhere near as extreme.

It looks to me as if Webber has pole wrapped up for this weekend, although I am sure Vettel will push him hard. Alonso looks set for third on the grid, but at the moment looking too far back to make any efforts at challenging the Red Bulls. (Although 3rd does usually beat 2nd off the line here, of course). 4th seems to be the real battleground, with McLaren in a fight with Renault - this will probably be where the real interest of qualifying lies.

Can someone tell me what the deal is with the flexible front wings? Is it new this week? It seems Red Bull and Ferrari have them.

It's been going on since Silverstone or so. Apparently, Red Bull and Red Horse have found a way to have the front wings flex mid-corner, increasing downforce. McLaren seems to be at a loss as to how they do it, and standard FIA tests have cleared the wings.
