Another rejectful attempt to F1

Post by Pointrox »

Hi guise.

Exclusive report for F1R:
New team to replace Prost
16th February 2002

Shortly after Alain Prost's team withdrew from F1, another team has been found.
Buying out all the assets of Prost, Jeroen Klok - Dutch F1 enthusiast - with his chaps, decided to pick up the challenge with old AP04s and even the same drivers - Jean Alesi and Luciano Burti - under the changed name: Klok Motorsport.

Here's a sneak-peek of what we're going to see in Australia, taken from the promotional brochure:
Image
As you can see, the car still looks like a Prost. And is equally crap.
Some of the sponsors were removed due to failed attempts to renew the contracts, but some (Acer, Dark Dog, PSN, Adecco) decided to stay with the new owner.
Prost's logos were covered with Asiatech logos - in return they've got 10 new engines half-price.
The monocoque was painted green, unlike the wings which still have the recognizeable blue.
Alesi's and Burti's cars will be numbered - respectively - 26 and 27.

According to the anonymous interlocutor the car will remain original, except for the engine cover which will be fitted for the new engine.

Oh boy.

EDIT: I have problems with... ahem... starting up the engine.
If someone with F1C experience can help me out - I will really appreciate it ;)

Klok's Shakedown at Monza Test Day
24th February 2002

Shortly after the leak of the information about the new team, P01, or we should say - repainted AP04, was found on Monza circuit at it's first laps during the test day with Giancarlo Fisichella, David Coulthard, Ralf Schumacher and Nick Heidfeld.
Alesi's car was driven by Emil Klok, one of the team founders, who is also believed to be Klok Motorsport's official 3rd driver.
Image
Here's the only photo of the car running.
The car made one lap (1:38,015) and entered the pits.

No big surprise - the car is awfully crap, has no grip at all, and is 12 seconds off the pace, as Jordan's Giancarlo Fisichella did a lap of 1:26.
Not to mention the loose engine cover which f*cks up the aerodynamics.

The team looks ahead to Australian Grand Prix.

EDIT: Jean Alesi refused to drive the car and left the team, describing the car performance as "pathetic" and calling the team principals "a bunch of idiots".
Hence, Emil Klok becomes the 1st driver and will drive the 26th car in Australia.

Feels bad man.

Klok P01 Official Car Launch
24th February 2002

After the short test drive on Monza, the P01 was officially launched in Indianapolis.
The car's livery was finally finished, as you can see it on the official photos.
Image Image Image Image
All the previous sponsors refused to be the financial backup of the team.
From now on the only official sponsors are Asiatech, ABN Amro and TNT, with its' small logos on the nosecone and near the cockpit.

Here are two extra photos from the official shakedown lap on Indianapolis:
Image Image
It's also the last time when Jean Alesi drove the P01.

We're looking forward to see the new old team in Australia next week.

Much better :D

Pre-race press release - Australian GP 2002
28th February 2002

Emil Klok - 1st driver: "I've never driven an F1 car in a race before, and definitely not in Australia - these will be my very first steps in a serious racing since I've got my superlicense. I'll try to make some progress and help the team to improve our car."

Luciano Burti - 2nd driver: Luc refused to tell us his thoughts about the first race of the season, except for the disappointment caused by Jean Alesi's retirement.

Jeroen Klok - Team Principal: "Both Emil and Luc helped us improving the car and we hope that we'll reduce our gap between us and the old teams. What's more, Asiatech gives us an additional technical support - for a debuting team like us it's like a bless. We're going to find some extra sponsors, too."

Here it is - our first Grand Prix!
Australian GP 2002: "We did our best"
4th March 2002

This was the first - and the most difficult for sure - race of Klok Motorsport.

The weekend began with four practice sessions. Luciano Burti - as the most experienced driver in the team - took part in all of them, while Emil Klok could only participate in the first two, in both he had a 5-6 second gap between him and his teammate. But the most important thing was to reduce the massive understeer which was a problem back in 2001, and was even worse in this season, with a different engine. "We did our best to make the car more driveable. It's a key for success on a street circuit like Albert Park.", said Emil Klok.

Then there was a qualifying session. Both drivers made their qualifying laps, although Emil Klok after his first lap had to enter the pits because of suspension collapse.
Luc qualified 23rd, 6 seconds ahead of his teammate, who was last.
Image

3rd March will be the nightmare for a long time both for the drivers and the personnel of Klok Motorsport. Luciano started with wet tyres, while Emil decided to keep his soft tyres from the qual, hoping for the rain to stop. Unfortunately, it didn't - while Luciano had a great start, passing the cars piled up on the start - caused by DC's clutch failure - and gaining a position after T1, 1st driver struggled with horrible grip (that is, a complete lack of it, causing the car to swim on the wet track), and had to make a full lap with an RPM limiter to enter the pits and replace the soft tyres with wet ones. After doing so he was 17th, gaining two positions after Raikkonen's and Barrichello's retirements.
Image

He was going behind his teammate, who was 1 lap ahead before he lost control of the car and knocked off his rear wing, entering the pits for the second time in this race. After that he did another two laps and lost his front wing, causing the pitcrew to do their job and having an additional refueling. It's also one of the longest pitstops ever - replacing the front wing took 42.3 seconds.
Image
I bathplugged up the pitcrew textures.

When he left the pits he was 2 laps behind Luciano Burti.
He had to retire from his first race on lap 10, when - after losing his rear wing for the second time - he lost control of his wobbling car and hit Mika Salo.
Toyota driver retired four laps later because of damage.
Luciano Burti finished 11th, four laps behind the winner with gearbox failure.
Image

Final results:
Image

Simply - the car is shite.
Luciano's 11th place must be a miracle of some kind - even when half of the grid spun out or were stopped by numerous mechanical and electrical failures.

Haha oh dear that is quite a rejectful start! Is it your first time playing F1C?

I'm curious to know how you've managed to get 24 cars on the grid as the game only allows you to have 21 AI opponents if I remember correctly. Love the paint scheme though!

I play F1C for quite a long time, but it's the first time I've started the championship.

For 24 or even more cars on the grid - you must modify your career file (F1_[year].bch).

Pre-race press release: Malaysian GP 2002
15th March 2002

Emil Klok - 1st driver: "We are arriving at Sepang circuit more experienced, and better prepared for the racing. We want to get as close to the top 10 as it will be possible. Asiatech's help is very much appreciated - thanks to this we could make some progress through this week."

Luciano Burti - 2nd driver: "At first I wasn't very trustful to Emil, as I've never had an opportunity to meet him. Eventually we are getting to know each other. The atmosphere in the team is very familiar - we're in great mood for Malaysian GP."

Jeroen Klok - Team Principal: "Our drivers are finally more willing to cooperate - that helped us make a bit of progress. Our aim for this GP is to get closer to the top 10 - we think that positions from 9th to 12th are possible."

FP and Q report - Malaysian GP 2002
16th March 2002

Free Practice:
Image
Luciano once again did most of the laps planned. Emil (on the photo above, waiting on the pit lights) decided to take the car for two laps during FP1 and then spend the rest of the time setting up the aerodynamics.

Qualifying:
Image
Both drivers did their qualifying laps, and the partial progress can be seen easily. Luciano Burti after 12 laps qualified 19th, between Mika Salo and Pedro de la Rosa.
Meanwhile Emil qualified 24th, being 5 seconds behind Alex Yoong and 16 seconds behind the pole position.

Malaysian GP 2002: "Success!"
17th March 2002

This race proved the team to be progressive. Emil proved the potential of P01 and made the first finish of the season for Klok Motorsport.
Both drivers started with soft tyres. At the start a pileup eliminated Fisichella, Bernoldi and Button. When the rest of the grid slew down to omit them, Emil decided to step on it and (thanks to the very little fuel) gained 15 positions - from 24th to 9th - at the main straight. After T1 he was about to run away, but his overweight car and minor engine problems forced him to lose two positions, and then another one. On lap 7 he lost 13th place to Ralf Schumacher, and - when battling for it - he knocked off RSC's rear wing and lost his front one. First pitstop was made, taking 43 seconds. He left the pits on the last place - 19th, when Heinz-Harald Frentzen flipped Luciano's car, forcing him to retire on lap 8. Thanks to that, EK moved up to 18th and chased Takuma Sato who was... one lap in front of him. From this time he only could hope for Taku to retire and... let the lapping drivers pass.
Image
In fact, he was doing very slow laps (1:50.xxx - 2:10.xxx) and was blocking the lapping drivers, which caused the race director to give him a stop-go penalty. After 10 secs he left the pits with... 2 laps of gap between him and Alex Yoong, who lost his 16th place after a spin, giving Taku one position up. Then, two laps before the finish... both Takuma (on the photo above, going behind the car #26) and Alex lapped Emil for the third time in this race!
But still - with no major problems - the only Klok Motorsport driver finished 18th, 5 laps behind Michael Schumacher. It was a little success for this small team, giving hope for better result in Brazil.

Anyway, the 3rd race of the season is coming soon!
Pre-race press release: Brazilian GP 2002
28th March 2002

Emil Klok - 1st driver: "Interlagos is one of the tracks our car was being prepared for a long time. We still believe in finishing near the top 10."

Luciano Burti - 2nd driver: "As a Brazilian I will try to do my best here. My first two races with Klok Motorsport weren't very lucky, but the progress we've made so far is very promising."

Jeroen Klok - Team Principal refused to comment.

Bad news...
Klok Motorsport bankrupt?
2nd April 2002

It is still unclear why Jeroen Klok - shortly after the press release giving an impression that everything's fine - announced his team withdrawal from the Brazil race, but speculation began surrounding the fate of the team.
Klok's staff, who had already travelled to Interlagos, returned to the team's base in Utrecht, Netherlands.
It is believed that the team probably lost TNT's sponsorship and - what's worse - Asiatech's tech support, leaving the team with very little if no financial and mechanical support.

Alex Katajamäki has expressed interest in a pay-drive position for Klok Motorsport, after finding €6.50 down the back of his sofa - surprisingly all in one cent coins.

He can also throw in a lifetime supply of jelly beans in to sweeten the deal.

Cheer up, lads.
Dutch team revival
7th April 2002

According to the latest reports from Netherlands, Klok family engaged all possible contacts, forces and money supplies to keep the team alive.
It also forced the team principal to hire a paydriver - Alex Katajamäki did a few laps in P01 in Zandvoort, while Burti's car is being upgraded to P01B.
Appearance in San Marino is still not confirmed, but the team - having a lot of support from fans around the world - will do its best to make it to Imola :D

James Davies also offers a £10 note he found on the pavement one day and mentions that he did have a contract with Klok Motorsport's predecessor, Prost Grand Prix, offering his services to the team so long as it does not clash with his NASCAR commitments.

Meep-meep!
Klok Motorsport is back in the game!
After missing the Imola round, Dutch family team is heading to Spain.
The team was about to be taken over by Asiatech, but in the end the team was bought by the Dutch group of anonymous businessmen.
From now on, the team has a new name: "Oranje KNVB F1" (because of cooperation with Royal Dutch Football Association). They also changed the livery to the characteristic orange.
The changes were kept in a secret to Friday, although it was obvious that the team won't last for long on their own.

FP Report
26th April 2002

The team is happy to be here after all the problems encountered before.
Alex Katajamaki brought some money and in return he was the first one to drive the car in San Marino.
Unfortunately it didn't start as planned.
Image

Just before Alex rolled out of the pits, Mark Webber - who didn't notice the red light on the pitlane exit - hit him and forced the Scottish-Finnish driver to wait for the T-car to be prepared.
Image
Here he can be seen pretending to battle with DC.
Then he did 12 laps before the rear suspension collapsed, but Alex refused to get back to the pits and made another 3 laps with front wing scratching the track.
- The car has a great potential to be the fastest lawnmower ever. The thing is, that none of the drivers of this team can't do this. And probably won't, in the nearest future - later said.

ORANJE KNVB F1 PUT UP TO AUCTION
10th May 2002

Amsterdam court on Monday put the Formula One team Oranje KNVB F1 (former Klok Motorsport) into formal liquidation.
Unfortunately, team couldn't keep it up for long, despite financial support.
Yesterday team principal Jeroen Klok announced that the whole team - including two ready-to-go cars, spare parts of any sort, crew, equipment and headquarters located in Utrecht - will be put up to auction.
More details to come.
