First wins & Vettel

Post by Keirdre »

Get your history books and fact faces out...I have a question:

Vettel claimed first poles and first wins for two teams in two successive years. How many other drivers have claimed maiden wins for more than one team?

Off the top of my head, Jenson Button - Honda in 2006, Brawn in 2009.

After some digging around:

Juan-Manuel Fangio won Maserati's first GP at Monza in 1953 and Mercedes' first GP at Reims in 1954. Like Vettel, they were in consecutive years!

Dan Gurney won Brabham's first GP at Rouen in 1964, and also Eagle/AAR's first (and only) GP at Spa in 1967.

Wasn't Honda's first win.
"will you stop him playing tennis then?", referring to Montoya's famous shoulder injury, to which Whitmarsh replied "well, it's very difficult to play tennis on a motorbike"

I know i'm the third one saying this but Button's wasnt hondas first.

Hondas first win came in 1965 in mexico by Richie Ginther.
I got Pointed Opinions and I ain't afraid to use em!
F1rejects no.1Räikkönen and Vettel fan.
BTW, thats Räikkönen with two K's and two N's. Not Raikonnen (Raikkonen is fine if you have no umlauts though)

Oops! Yeah, as soon as I read the first reply I remembered Honda's wins in the 60s.

Dan Gurney also won Porsche's only F1 win.

Jackie Stewart won both Matra's and Tyrrell's first F1 wins if you count the 2 as separate teams.

Stirling Moss got both Vanwall's and Cooper's first wins.

Don't ask me the years, because I had them and then lost the post so I'm doing this from memory.

Quite a difficult thing to do obviously. Alan Jones so nearly could have been on the list had his engine not bust at Silverstone in 1979.

Thanks for the answer. Dan Gurney sounds like he might be the king of this then!
