According to James Allen its already started raining in the surrounding town, so that's good news for Webber and co.

It should certainly make for an interesting race with low grip levels, whether its dry or wet.

Legard has also tweeted for the BBC that rain is falling in the nearby towns, which will please the even numbered starters, as it should help wash away the dust on their side of the grid (and the rubber on the other side). Now, Legard had been asked about what is likely to happen weather wise, and he suggests that there will be no rain for the race itself, but the track is likely to be wet as the tarmac, being so new and full of various residual oils, will not allow the water to drain away quickly (he said that any water is likely to end up sitting on top of the tarmac).

Be that as it may, this is likely to be a difficult race - the track is effectively going to be green, and very slippery, conditions which Bridgestone reckon are likely to cause severe problems with tyre graining. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/87644
Now, if we face a situation which is similar to Canada, Red Bull might not be sitting as pretty as they might think. We saw that, over a longer stint, the Red Bull suffered from slightly higher tyre wear compared to Ferrari and Mclaren (think about how Webber's rear tyres started to give out on his long stint on the prime tyres). Additionally, Red Bull, although they have improved a bit recently, are not always the most competent when it comes to dealing with changeable conditions, and arguably their drivers sometimes struggle in that regard too.

These sorts of conditions are going to put a lot of pressure on the championship leaders - whilst those who are further back probably are happy about this slight randomiser, they cannot afford to go all out because they cannot risk crashing, as that would definitely take them out of contention (Hamilton and Button are in this group). Alonso might still fancy his chances of outdoing the Red Bulls on strategy, and he knows that both Webber and Vettel will be very vulnerable in the first half of the opening lap thanks to his superior straight line speed. He is probably going to be on all out attack for the first few corners, because there will be no benefit in having a higher straight line speed if the Red Bulls can pull away enough in the final sector for him to be unable to catch up.

All in all, it looks as if this could be one of the more finely poised races, because there are a number of complicating factors (for example, Rosberg qualifying higher then normal, and looking pretty handy too).

Unlike Suzuka, which for all the magnificence of the track looked like a done deal after Qualy, this is shaping up nicely. Should be great - and could break many a driver's heart.

Excellent points, Mario. Now, I looked around and found this weather forecast. This says the chances of rain are smaller than before race, but it will make chances even on the dirtier side of the grid. Now, if the water is unable to dry up quickly, we might end up seeing that the race will be DELAYED or started behind the safety car, a la Fuji 2007. Now we all remember that race was chaotic (and... Webber got knocked out by Vettel behind Hamilton, and all three are title contenders this season. Coincidence?)

Slippery conditions however, might suit Button, who's the lowest qualified out of the five. If he can find his car and style with pace together, he might be fighting for the win he definitely needs, if he wants to move on with the title defending. And also, Red Bull might be behind the 8-ball as they don't seem to be capable of building a good strategy for BOTH drivers if the conditions are rainy.

IF the rain will be there all race, teams who have lower speed on the first sector - particularly Red Bull - will have their chances balanced out. That means Ferrari, McLaren and Renault will find themselves against harder defense on the two straights. A Rosberg win then might be on the cards.

If the water does indeed sit on top of the oil and rubbish on the already slippery track then we could have one heck of a race on our hands! Who knows, we could even see our first true race of attrition for a few years (Indy '04 springs to mind, but I might have forgotten something), especially bearing in mind the selection of "nearly" accidents from Yamamoto et al. A Williams/Sauber podium? A Lotus in the points? Anything could happen in that sort of race, so I suspect that the experienced heads will thrive like Alonso, Webber, Barrichello, Heidfeld and Schumacher. I'll certainly be up at 6am to watch it.

Looks like I might not be watching anything at all as there was a lightning strike very close to my place (when I mean close I mean shake the foundations of the house close).
Anyway (if I can) I'll be watching the F1 (V8's are getting a bit boring) and listening to Roy and HG's football commentary over the internet (I don't get Triple M where I live so I have to listen online).
