Douglas Mann felt that this test session justified his decision to leave West Cliff Racing. Having only created his team since the previous test session, Douglas was happy to be within a tenth of the team that so often ruined his races after decent qualifying sessions. And being 18th out of 19, the team could only progress onwards and upwards. To infinity and beyond!

OK, I'm just stalling now, since I really, really want more drivers. I'll do the next session at some point tomorrow, after I sleep. (Actually, I guess since it's about 00:30, it'll be later today. I hate time.)
It seems that Thomas De Bock may very well be regretting his move away from Rosenforth, posting the 10th best time, as Phoenix McAllister is 4th and Frank Zimmer 5th. Gary Cameron shows why he was champion, and took the fastest time over Kahama's Kay Lon and JLD's Daniel Melrose. Hemogoblin Autowerks was again the best of the new teams, while Trueba Racing's Giovanni Roda was the slowest of everyone. But something was missing from the top 10... where were the Prospecs? I'll tell you where: 17th and 18th! What happened shall never be known. (Bloody one at a time qualifying system...)

Is it possible for one member to enter 2 drivers? If so, I'd like to enter a friend of mine from school (he doesn't know it yet), pretending he's a legend's relative, as well as creating a new team. So here goes:
Aurelien Moll (great-grandson of Guy Moll) Belgium ECB (Ecurie de Course Belge) #58
Ecurie de Course Belge is a private team that has been entering promising Belgian drivers for nearly 10 years. Moll is their latest find, and has been very successful in feeder series. The resulting sponsorship led them to submit an entry to the F1RWRS, with their own chassis (named after Johnny Claes) and, to complete the team's patriotism, a works Gillet engine.

This team was set up by Frank Zimmer's older brother John after he retired from racing himself, although they did basically nothing. The team will use effectively the same engine that is in the current HSV cars, except it has a supercharger strapped to it.
OK, about the points system. I've decided to use a similar system to the BTCC, but modified it so only the top 8 score. There is also one point for pole and one for fastest lap. It is: 15-10-8-5-4-3-2-1. If you can come up with a better one, I'd like to know. Oh, and since there are now 21 drivers, I'll have to do the two race thing, so I can only give info on results, fastest lap, qualifying and pit stops. It's too hard to do lap by lap stuff, and lap leaders are sort of pointless anyway.

What I was going to do was split the field into two groups, then take Group A, do a qualifying run and the race, then repeat with Group B, and merge the results. Actually, now that I think about it, what about pre-qualifying or the 107% rule?
Option A: that's what I was referring to. Is it possible to do a review for both groups, and make the two-group format official? I could understand if you don't have time, since I don't have much myself, and it's probobaly worse for you (evidence suggests I'm 1 or 2 years younger than you). Option B: pre-qualifying isn't necessary (too little cars), and the field is too bunched up for the 107% rule. Just eliminate the bottom two and you should be fine.

I like Option B. The two slowest cars from qualifying shall henceforth be eliminated. DNFs are annoyingly lacking in this game (except at Spa, I've seen almost all this game's DNFs there), so a few DNQs should be nice.
If we are having extra drivers, does that mean Douglas Mann's sister Pippa Mann can be promoted to Douglas's teammate at AMR?

What options are there available (other than the second CR)?
Sorry TMLW, I've been seriously busy with work and your series moves so fast that I've only just caught up with everything (including my disappointing end to the season)!

There are second seats available at Club Bangelia, Pacchia, JLD, CR and West Cliff, and I'm sure most of the new teams are fine with a second driver.

I think I'll help Luca's cause.
AUTOSPORT wrote:Pacchia to enter 2nd car for "Watka" F1RWRS race winner Ashley Watkinson has all but been confirmed as 2nd driver for Luca Pacchiarini's ambitious team, Autosport understands. Watkinson's talks with the CR team had stalled, leaving him seemingly without a drive, but Pacchiarini's team has long wanted a 2nd driver, with "Watka" seemingly being the perfect driver to fit the billing.
Watkinson exclusively reviewed details of his turbulent off season to Autosport. "CR Motorsport and I did not quite see eye to eye after last season" summarised the 21 year old from Surrey. "The team did not develop the car as I liked and I feel that I did not get enough credit for getting the points finishes that I achieved. They didn;t hesitate to sign up Darren (Older Jr) again, which I thought was a strange decision because his money was drying up and he didn't really challenge me or give me any support in the whole season. I certainly was not going to except equal billing in a midfield team, so I've been considering my options elsewhere. Luca (Pacchiarini) was quick to recognise my talents and potential and we are close to penning a deal. Some might question why I am seeming settling for a 2nd seat at another team, but I know that Luca is keen to have someone support him whilst he both drives for the team and deals with managing the team as well. The car's pace last season impressed me, and the team is more than capable of mounting a challenge for the constructors title this season."
I've just realised a problem with eliminating the slowest drivers... I can still only do 19 drivers at a time, so I can't have just one qualifying session to eliminate drivers. This is getting annoying now...

Nothing that pen and paper to record the results can't fix

Do two qualifying heats, dividing the grid up into two groups (randomly perhaps?) and then combine the times to eliminate the slowest cars overall, forming a grid of the fastest 19 cars from both heats.

I'll do three, one for Group A, one for Group B, then one for the remaining drivers which will have a race immediately afterwards. I'm splitting everyone in exactly the same way in each race, so that no two drivers from the same team are in the same heat. B: Thomas De Bock David Koczo Phoenix McAllister Ashley Watkinson Simon Redman Chris Dagnall Pippa Mann Daniel Melrose Hagane Shizuka Dave Simpson Aurelian Moll John Zimmer

RACE #1 - NORISRING After the disappointment for those four eliminated drivers, it was time to get to qualifying proper. It was of little surprise to the fans that Car #1 would line up on pole, with Frank Zimmer alongside. The third place went to one of the new teams - Dave Simpson expertly piloted his Australian Minardi for a brilliant lap, managing to egde out former teammate Daniel Melrose.

Race:
Lap 1: Bad news for Aurelian Moll, who tried to get out of last, jumping the gun on the start! He will have to take a drive-through penalty at the end of the lap. A good start from the inside saw Frank Zimmer take first from Cameron at the first hairpin, while John Zimmer found himself between the two Manns. At the chicane, Melrose passed both Cameron and Zimmer to take the lead. He held it to the end of the lap, and became the first lap leading driver this year. Lap 2: Koczo gets to 4th, ahead of Simpson and Spencer. Douglas Mann is now 13th, with Pippa 14th after passing John Zimmer. Melrose still leads. Lap 3: A small mistake from Melrose sees Zimmer take him at the chicane, while a massive pack forms behind them, with only Moll not in the midst of it. Lap 4: Zimmer still leads, while Cameron passes Melrose at the final hairpin. The top 6 of Zimmer, Cameron, Melrose, Simpson, Redman and Spencer break away slightly, while everyone from there back to Giovanni Roda in 15th are involved in a massive battle. Moll has made ground on Hemo Goblin, who is 18th. Lap 5: Melrose makes a ridiculously brave move at chicane, passing Cameron and then passing Zimmer too to lead the lap (barely). These 3 plus Simon Redman are lapping really quickly, while the Prospecs are 5th and 6th. Lap 6: A minor cock-up from Melrose at the first hairpin is rewarded (that's right) when both Zimmer and Cameron are forced wide to avoid him, so he managed to retain his lead. Lap 7: Spins everywhere! Almost every front runner loses it simultaneously at the hairpin, resulting in Nathanael Spencer taking the lead! Behind, though, everyone is in the same order. Lap 8: Spencer's lead doesn't last long, as Melrose hunts him down. Otherwise, nothing's happening. Lap 9: The front runners start to spread out, except for Phoenix McAllister, who is on a charge and gained 5 spots throughout the lap, and is right on his teammate's tail. The first stop occurs, from Giovanni Roda. Lap 10: As Roda emerges, he almost wipes out Melrose and Spencer. As the front runners slow, the midfield catches up, and Thomas De Bock takes third place, while McAllister drops to 8th. Douglas Mann pits. Lap 11: Melrose still leads. De Bock, Redman, Cameron, Simpson and Davies all pit. Lap 12: Melrose still leads. Spencer is second, then a few seconds down the road is Zimmer and Koczo. Lap 13: Spencer now leads as Melrose pits. Lap 14: The drivers who have stopped are now right behind some who haven't. The best of these is Roda, who is 12th. Lap 15: The top 5 are currently Spencer, Zimmer, Koczo, Older Jr and Pippa Mann, but she has John Zimmer right behind, with Lon, Watkinson and McAllister right behind him. Hemo Goblin rounds out the top 10. Douglas Mann is in last place, unable to pass the flying Melrose. Lap 16: Frank Zimmer pits, as does teammate McAllister. Mann manages to pass both. Lap 17: Spencer leads as Koczo loses his place to Older Jr. Lap 18: Redman now takes the lead for the first time. He has already stopped, and knowing what happens from here, is likely to win. Spencer, Older Jr, Koczo, Hemo Goblin, Moll, J. Zimmer, Watkinson, Pippa Mann and Kay Lon are the last drivers to pit. Lap 19: The next best stopper is 5th placed De Bock, who will be looking to rub a win in the face of his old team, who are still running in 18th and 19th, but he is still stcuk in trafic. Moll and Watkinson both pit. Lap 20: Spencer pits from 2nd. Lap 21: Hemo Goblin is now 2nd, but hasn't yet pitted. De Bock is 3rd, and Older Jr 4th. Frank Zimmer is pulling off his usual stuff and is up to 14th, while Melrose is on the verge of scoring a point if he can pass Lon. No, wait, it's just the top 8 that get points now, isn't it? Lap 22: Nothing happened. Lap 23: De Bock passes Hemo Goblin for 2nd. Lap 24: Melrose is now in the top 8, while there are still 6 drivers yet to stop. Lap 25: More nothing. Lap 26: Kay Lon pits. Lap 27: John Zimmer pits. Lap 28: Hemo Goblin and Pippa Mann pit. Lap 29: Koczo and Older Jr pit. Lap 30: And so we have our first winner of the season, Simon Redman of Kahama Motor Sport! Allow me to just find the points system that I forgot, and I'll do the results.

So with his win, Simon Redman is unrejectified, as is Thomas De Bock and, I think (so correct me if I'm wrong), so does Melrose with his 5th. On to Hockenheim!

Pippa Mann was glad to beat her brother Douglas in pre-qualifying (who himself was glad to just scrap into to race by 0.04 seconds). Come the end of the race, Douglas was disappointed that points no longer went down to 10th but had a smile on his face when he found out that his sister did not find it as easy as she had been expecting. She had thought that she would have beaten big brother easily, but that first year of experience made all the difference.
The team are hoping for better results further into the season.

Douglas Mann has also just noticed that the driver he beat into the race by 0.04 second is his old team's sole representative. Already Douglas feels vindicated in his move away from Westcliff Racing and setting up a team with his sister.
