RACE #14 - SHANGHAI
Qualifying:
The session was red flagged early after Frank Zimmer's brakes failed at the worst possible place - down the back straight. The resulting crash was less serious than it could have been as the gravel slowed him from roughly 300km/h to 250. He will be fine to take part in the race, but will have to start from the back of the grid. Gary Cameron took his first pole since the season opener at Norisring, with Hagane Shizuka rapidly becoming our version of Sebastian Vettel, taking his B-team to places they should never be. The second and third rows, however, will be Prospec-JLD, and Prospec-JLD, with out two main championship contenders side by side.
1st: Team Calinetic - Gary CAMERON: 1:19.12
2nd: Mann-Anglo-Nippon - Hagane SHIZUKA: +0.17

I think Prospec made a boo boo with their drivers, because they brought Koczo in on lap 3. The next stoppers, Shizuka and Simpson, didn't stop until Lap 14! And think about this: although Spencer was on the lead lap, he only beat Melrose to the line by two seconds, almost side by side with each other, and Koczo. As for Shizuka and Simpson, they collided on lap 25 at the first corner, having been second and third at the time.

I didn't think holidays would affect me this badly... Actually, wasn't this the first race where you get a good result and manage to qualify for the next one?
Wizzie wrote:So... what do I have to do to win the championship?
If you win, you need Spencer to be no better than 3rd, then you'll win on countback (3 wins to 2). If you are second, then you need Spencer to be no better than 6th, again winning on countback (this time due to the fact you have a fourth). If you are third, you need him no better than 8th, and again countback would be your fried (2 3rds to 1). If you are fourth, the championship is Spencer's. All this doesn't involve the points for pole/fastest lap, which could alter it.

So Spencer pretty much has to do what a certain Spaniad we all know and "love" had to do at Abu Dhabi yet didn't...

Re: F1RWRS - A computerised F1Reject series
And before I forget since I'm bored and I have time on my hands here's a draft of MRT's engine and car deliveries for next year:
Cars:
There are a total of 12 race ready chassis avaliable (6 are M2s used before Adelaide and 6 are M2Bs used after Adelaide). The M2Bs are faster but the M2s can be upgraded to M2B specs or can be fitted with customised upgrade packages created by the teams. The following teams are using customer chassises bought from MRT:
Confirmed:
O'Lauchlan Motorsport (2 M2s, upgrade package TBD)
Unconfirmed:
None
Engines:
The amount of engines avaliable is so far undetermined but BMW should be able to send us enough engines to cover demand. The engines we sell are BMW P84/5 V10s and BMW P86/9 V8s which will be tuned and upgraded to P84/12 and P86/12 specs by MRT's engine workshop. The following teams are using customer engines from MRT:
Confimed:
O'Lauchlan Motorsport (P84)
Unconfirmed:
Australian Minardi (TBD)

AGURI SUZUKI NEW TEAM PRINCIPAL OF FOOTWORK PHOENIX
Aguri Suzuki, ex-F1 race driver and owner of the Aguri team in the Japanese GT Championship, has been appointed as the new Footwork Phoenix team principal, a month after the death of Tom Walkinshaw from cancer. "This is a great challenge for myself, a challenge that I'm very much looking forward to. The Footowrk Phoenix team has a lot of potential and is run by very professional people. Both his drivers are wilful, skilled and determined. I'm sure we can all walk to the top, sooner or later." Meanwhile, the team will join forces with the Aguri GT Team and will benefit from its installations, while strenghtening their ties to Honda. In fact, the team is already building a factory close to the Suzuka track. Finally, the team will now the named Super Aguri Footwork Phoenix Honda. Phoenix McAllister, founder and driver of the outfit, has this to say: "Come on, you acorn-eating bastards, get down there and fight!...Erm, sorry. I'm very glad Mr. Suzuki has accepted the offer. It's the most capable replacement I can think of. We trust him to do a very competent job, and indeed he'll make our team stronger at all camps. It's a really useful, and I hope a succesful, partnership." The team has also made public their new chassis for the next season, called TWR02:

MAN and AMR Press Release
Our two Isle-of-Man-based teams are proud to announce a new sponsership deal with both the Isle of Man Bank and the Manx Post Office with effect from the start of next season. This is in addition to sponsership from our engine suppliers, AMR's Peel/DeLorean and MAN's MAN truck diesel engine. Tyres, rules permitting (or do we have a single tyre supplier?), will be from Dunlop.

Pacchia-Coswojuddhartlambo is looking forward to a better season next year.
Rumors about the possible demise of the team are then proved false.
As the team budget is slowly decreasing, the team is looking for a second driver able to bring sponsorship to the team.

It is official that ArrowTech Racing will use Cosworth engines next year. Also, we are happy to announce that Bud Light will become our main sponsor. The team will still be called ArrowTech Racing. At least one driver will be announced on the team after the race in Laguna Seca.

I've really enjoyed reading this as a guest, and now I'd like to take part. Could I have the second CR Motorsport seat if possible for next season.
The name is Damon Cannon (not my real name). Age 20 from Great Britain. I am from the upper class from a very wealthy family in merry old England, which will provide sponsorship. I got hooked on F1 watching Hill and Schumacher duel at Spa in 1995. I believe in fair play, and to be gracious in defeat (cough, notlikely, cough).

So then, pending Older Jr's possible return, CR will have two pay-drivers. Excellent!

Firstly: Don't ask me why they're suddenly going 3 seconds a lap faster, I have no idea.
The important part: Nathanael Spencer beat Daniel Melrose, by 3 tenths, and has the added bonus of a teammate in between. Gary Cameron barely snatched pole, his second in a row. Apart from that, it was a standard grid.

Race:
Lap 1:
Cameron had an absolute shocker of a start, and dropped to 5th place, while Melrose fared slightly better, being passed by Zimmer and Dagnall before turn 1. Simpson passed Koczo for second at turn 3, and Zimmer got him too at turn 5. A very risky pass at the Corkscrew saw Cameron get back to third, while Melrose got Dagnall a few corners later for 6th. At the end of the lap, it was Spencer leading Simpson across the line, with Cameron, Zimmer, Koczo and Melrose just behind, and Dagnall, Krautmeir, Redman and De Bock rounding out the top 10. Then it was Davies, Douglas Mann, Mori, John Zimmer, Watkinson, Pacchiarini, Lon, Older Jr and Roda bringing up the rear.
Lap 2:
Simpson makes a pass stick at the Corkscrew, taking the lead from Spencer. De Bock went on a charge and got to 5th, behind Zimmer and ahead of Melrose. Koczo was now 7th, and Dagnall 9th, behind Krautmeir. De Bock showed why he’d made the effort when he pitted at the end of the lap. Darren Older Jr also came in, pitting from 18th.
Lap 3:
Simpson still led, and Spencer was still second, but Melrose was now up to third, having passed half the field at the Corkscrew. That meant Cameron was 4th, Koczo now 5th, Krautmeir 6th, Zimmer 7th, Dagnall 8th, Redman 9th and Mann passing Davies at the final corner for 10th.
Lap 4:
Spencer passes Simpson for the lead at turn 5, while Redman passed Dagnall and Zimmer to get to 7th. De Bock is already right behind Roda, but Older Jr can’t get it right at the Corkscrew, and keeps finding the gravel.
Lap 5:
Simpson and Spencer continue their battle for the lead, with Simpson ahead at the line. Cameron sneaks back up the inside of Melrose at turn 1, while Zimmer does the same to Redman, and then to Krautmeir at the Corkscrew.
Lap 6:
Simpson starts to get clear of Spencer, while Melrose and Cameron are battling for third. Koczo is in clean air, while Zimmer and Redman fight for the lead of the mid-pack. Davies finds some speed and gets to 8th, while Dagnall heads off at the Corkscrew and allows Mann to pass him for 10th. At the back, Watkinson very nearly hits the wall at Corkscrew, and drops back behind De Bock. Roda comes in to pit.
Lap 7:
Melrose has an absolute flyer of a lap, passing Cameron at turn 1, Spencer at turn 5 and Simpson for the lead at the Corkscrew! With the fastest lap his (for now), he would win the championship if he could hold the lead, and Spencer didn’t pass Simpson. Meanwhile , Watkinson’s car is in bad shape, very nearly running straight ahead at the final corner, but managing to pull up.
Lap 8:
Now it’s Spencer’s turn for a flyer, unable to beat Melrose’s time, but passing him anyway. Cameron makes a big mistake at turn 1 and drops to 7th as a result. This allows Redman, Davies and Koczo to pass him. De Bock is now 15th, having just passed Kay Lon.
Lap 9:
Melrose takes the lead back from Spencer, who also falls victim to Redman, who had passed Simpson at turn 3. It was a dangerous one, however, that results in Simpson running off the road and dropping to 7th.
Lap 10:
Redman knocks Melrose off the road at the Corkscrew and will receive a 20 second penalty for dangerous driving, but holds the lead. Melrose drops to third, but passes Cameron at the final corner. Frank Zimmer’s front left wheel starts to vibrate after multiple excursions into the sand and collisions with drivers around him as he steadily loses spots.
Lap 11:
Melrose regains the lead with a pass at turn 5, while Spencer is stuck in 4th place, unable to pass Cameron. Koczo is giving him some protection from Simpson, while Davies drops back to 7th after running wide at turn 3. Dagnall, Mann and Mori round out the top 10. Krautmeir and Pacchiarini pit.
Lap 12:
Melrose starts to build a lead over Koczo, who passes Spencer and Redman, desperate for another win. Dagnall, Frank Zimmer and Simpson pit.
Lap 13:
Douglas Mann goes on a surge and gets from 10th to 4th in one lap, while the top 10 now looks rather different. Melrose leads from Redman and Spencer, nothing unusual there, with Mann 4th, Koczo 5th, Mori 6th, Older Jr now the best stopper in 7th, Cameron back in 8th, John Zimmer 9th, and Davies 10th. Roda is the next best stopper, in 11th. Where’s De Bock? Stopped, buried in the wall at the Corkscrew, his race over. He got a touch from Lon as they entered side by side, and while De Bock went straight ahead, Lon barely missed the wall, and hit Zimmer as he rejoined. Watkinson pits.
Lap 14:
Melrose holds the lead, while Redman is under massive pressure from Spencer. Mori and Mann pit.
Lap 15:
This race just got a whole lot more interesting, as Melrose and Spencer both pit! They emerge so far behind, however, that it will be a miracle if they score points. Redman inherits the lead, with Older Jr heading for his first win, in second place.
Lap 16:
Never mind, as Roda comes from nowhere to pass Older Jr and Redman at turn 1! Older Jr dispatches Redman with ease, and the battle at the front will be almost as interesting as the one at the back.
Lap 17:
Redman and John Zimmer pit, while Melrose gets some breathing space by passing Mori.
Lap 18:
Mayber I overestimated the battle between Roda and Older Jr, as Roda steadily pulls away on slightly newer tyres. Koczo is now third, but Krautmeir, Dagnall and Simpson are right behind.
Lap 19:
Koczo is passed by all three of them in two corners, and Cameron gets through at the Corkscrew for good measure.
Lap 20:
Woah! Gary Cameron loses all control at the final corner and loses a lot of time. However, he very nearly became Spencer’s favourite driver after he heavily collided with Melrose as he tries to rejoin. Davies also pits, leaving Cameron, Koczo and Kay Lon as the last to stop.
Lap 21:
Koczo pits, leaving the 11th placed Lon and 12th placed Cameron to stop soon.
Lap 22:
Older Jr starts to slow on his older tyres (get it?). Add to that the fact that Davies is not making it easy for Darren to lap him, and it allows Krautmeir to get very close to striking distance.
Lap 23:
Spencer finally passes Mori up the inside at the last corner. This puts him 13th, just behind Melrose, although he should win the championship given how neither should score here.
Lap 24:
Roda spins at the final corner while in the lead! This allows Koczo to unlap himself, but he had enough space over Older Jr and co. to still have the lead. Actually, it should be Krautmeir and co., as the German passes Older Jr at the Corkscrew.
Lap 25:
Dagnall gets onto the podium as he passes Older Jr at turn 4. Simpson is held up by Davies, and when he gets blocked at the final corner, Zimmer sneaks around the outside of both! Cameron also pits, leaving Lon with only a few laps left to stop.
Lap 26:
Zimmer passes Older Jr for fourth, and Simpson is trying to find a way past as well.
Lap 27:
Krautmeir and Dagnall are gaining big time on Roda, but whether there is enough time remains to be seen. Lon finally pits!
Lap 28:
Only 1 and a half seconds from Roda to Krautmeir now…
Lap 29:
Krautmeir is under his wing… Simpson, meanwhile, passes Older Jr. Predictably.
Lap 30:
And now for a more indepth review of the final lap:
At the hairpin, Krautmeir has a crack, gets ahead but runs wide and lets Roda back through, but manages to stay close. Turn 3, and Krautmeir has a look, but decides against a pass. Turns 4 & 5, Krautmeir doesn’t bother. Turn 6, too fast for Krautmeir. The Corkscrew, he has look up the inside, as Roda blocks, then Krautmeir moves to the outside, and in one of the greatest passes ever, passes for the lead! Through turns 9 & 10, he holds Roda off, before Roda slides through the final corner, giving Jeroen Krautmeir his first win! Roda takes second, Dagnall takes 3rd, and Zimmer comes home in 4th. The interesting one is Melrose, who crosses the line 10th, just ahead fo Spencer, but not enough to win the championship!

Race:

ECB press release
Next year, our cars will be running in the dark blue and white of our title sponsors Dexia Bank, with the wings in light blue and white and purple for minor sponsors Sprimoglass and Belgacom. We would also like to announce a manufacturer partnership with Belgian sports car manufacturer Gillet, creators of the Gillet Vertigo.

AMR/MAN Press Release
Contrary to the former press release, the new sponsorship deal is not with the Isle of Man Bank and Post Office but rather with the bank's subsidary brand, the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank.
Douglas Mann wrote: My word. I go second fastest in pre-qualy and neither Hagane Shizuka nor Pippa make it?At least qualy proper was a bit more representative for me... Pippa Mann wrote:I am naturally very upset at my performance today, although as Douglas suggested, we seem to have some quality control issues that we have had to deal with this year. Good luck to my brother in the race tomorrow before he leaves for his own team. And my condolences to the MAN team for their DNQ.
Actually, it turns out that it's my first DNQ of the year. It's very embarrassing to have got this far and to have failed at the final hurdle.![]()

Glad to prequalify again, the track was a little damp so we could not go as fast as we wanted, my team mate was only half a second slower but lost out. Although glad the track did dry and get quicker but disappointed with 13th on the grid and being behind Douglas Mann. Hoping for rain... or to at least finish in front of Mr Mann.

Qualifying was quite difficult, because I didn't set up the car properly, but things were practically perfect on Sunday. To be honest, I didn't see a win as a possibility, but the only thing that was on my head was to push, and that's what I did. About the pass, well, I really didn't think I could make it! But, you know, I just concentrated on getting it right, and before I knew it, I was leading! Right now I'm wondering if I shouldn't be celebrating too much, as I haven't won the championship, haha! But, er, speaking of the championship, I've got to congratulate Nathanael for his championship win, and I'm sure he's feeling like the king of the world right now. My commiserations to Daniel, but I'm sure that with some effort, the whole team, Daniel and I, can go for the double next season. I'm also happy to announce that I've gained some sponsorship from Commerzbank, and so I'll be able to help the team's finances a bit.
