Rejects Of Gran Turismo

Post by Klon »

Well, this seems to be the right place for this kind of stuff now, so here it goes:

I was thinking about having a hot lap competition in Gran Turismo. I only have Gran Turismo PSP and GT4, but I would presume that a lot of cars and tracks we would use are in Gran Turismo 5 or maybe even the lower versions as well, so I cannot directly exclude those.

It would work out pretty simple: I would be giving you a "scenario" (i.e. which car to use where) and you would send me an email with your fastest lap (or laps, depending on the scenario). Since I cannot imagine a true way to prove the lap times, we would have to work with an honour system, but this is the kind of community where such a thing is possible.

Interest?

Sounds like a good idea, although a lot of the classic tracks are absent from GT5.

By the way, I will be slow.

A single-lap championship? It's a deal! I just happen to have GT4 (as well as GT2), so that's sorted out. I have no idea how fast I am compared to others, but I usually push hard all the time (i.e. I'm poor at adjusting my pace according to race conditions), so a single lap series is good for me.

Well, my "research" has resulted in quite some tracks which are in a lot of games. Also, I think I can manage car selection that way no game has a real advantage. The only games which might get real problems would be the original Gran Turismo, the third part, the prolouges and of course our true favourite ... Tourist Trophy

I think I will start the series by Wednesday: a B-spec 24 Hours Nürburgring awaits me tomorrow.

Takes "only" a little more than eight hours in B-Spec, as you can accelerate the race up to 3x the normal speed.

Just double-checked this. I have a Mitshubishi Lancer Evo 6 and 8, Subaru Impreza'01 rally car, and a BMW 320i touring car. Other cars include an E-Type Jag, Fiat 500, Mini Cooper (the last two need great skill to preserve momentum, being so slow...), Plymouth Super Bird, Merc 300 SL Coupe, Renault 5 Turbo and a Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione '91.

Then I bought a Jag XJ220 Le Mans.

I also have Prologue on PS3, but I use my PSP more often bizarrely.

Well, there is enough interest apparentely, so let it roll. The scenarios will be fitted to include Gran Turismo 2 (although ocassionally you will get another scenario, since I have one or two Nordschleife runs planned), Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP and Gran Turismo 5. Just to warn you: you may need to have quite some cash on the backside to make it through the "season". I will use a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system with a bonus point allocated by me to the user who managed to entertain me most, be it by a very unique choice of vehicle or clever bending of the rules.

Scenario 1-1: "Super Sunday Cup Brawl"

Track: High-Speed Ring

Car To Use: Any "Used Car" with a price less than 10,000 credits

Allowed Tuning*: Weight Reduction 1

Deadline: 31st December 2010, 16:00 CET

*Oil changes etc. are tuning as well. Also, forgive me if I use the wrong names, I "only" have the German versions of the game(s).

------------------------------------------------

Once you think your lap time is good enough, please send me the following per e-mail.

User Name: *Duh...*
Car Used: *Please give the exact name of the car as used in-game*
Tuning Applied: *Just to see if you have followed the rules*
Lap Time: *Duh²...*

For those that have GT4, here's a way to pile up some cash quickly:

Run the second Special Condition (Easy) race twice and sell the two Toyota rally cars you'll win. Go to Germany and buy an Opel Astra Touring Car. Buy the Stage 3 NA upgrade. After an oil change you'll have 654 HP. Use this chassis setup:

http://www.gtvault.com/SetupDisplay.cfm ... CA06240441

Use all those settings, but also turn the TCS up to 7. I also use the Tranny Trick from GT3: Move the Final drive full right to 5.00. Move the Autoset slider full right to 25, then full left to 1, and leave it there. This gives your 6-speed the closest possible set of gears. Now adjust the Final drive for each track, or put it at 3.90 for all the DTM events if you're lazy.

Now go to the European Events and enter the Astra in the Deutsche Touring Car Meisterschaft (DTM), or, in English, the German Touring Car Championship.

B-Spec every event. Set the speed at 4, and leave "Overtake" on. Click R1 to display the map, then click and hold L1 while you D-Pad right to change the speed to x3, or three times normal. Each event will then only take about three minutes. If you choose to monitor things, you can blow through it all in about 17 minutes. When the prize money starts being awarded, press X or Start to speed up the process.

The prize car's resale value is 743,749. You get 15,000 for winning each event, and 75,000 for the championship, so your total haul for less than 20 minutes is 893,749.

Best of all, you can do other things while your B-Spec driver is piling up cash for you, like eating dinner or sorting socks.

Repeat early and often, again and again, as many times as you want. I like to go through it three times while I'm getting ready for work. That's about 2,700,000 without even playing. At that rate, you can collect a bunch of very expensive cars in a hurry.

(Use your pile of cash to get an Audi R8, Bimmer V12 LMR, '04 Pescarolo, or an '03 Pescarolo. The '03 Pesky gets great tire life, giving it a big advantage over other Prototypes. Leave the suspension stock, turn off ASM, buy Stage 4, the chassis stiffener, and R1, R2, and R4 tires, and have fun.)

i only have GT1 and GT2, and haven't played these for yeaaaaaars, anyway, i'm willing to give it a try if something possible on these games is scheduled (i don't remember anything about it so you have to inform me)
that of course if my playstation still works decently, which i highly doubt

not having other games (or other consoles, i'm not really a gamer) i might not be able to do a whole championship, so if this is not possible, no big deal, i will find something else to do then :P

Actually, I think I'm going to withdraw my entry for this year, because I finally gave this a go (since I got F1 2001 for christmas, a very fun game indeed :D) for about.... ten minutes before I shut off the game trying to complete the East End Course of Motegi for the FF Challenger Cup. Yes, I'm that bad, people. But I'm not too shabby on F1 2001! I got pole position in Monaco, of all places! And I won in a Jaguar, if you can believe that! So, I'll be off.
