There are actually some more (when the dealers change, not all cars are always available). But since it would be stupid to have you wait until the right one pops up, you can take the Spider. I will add it to the list.

AR 155 2.5 v6 TI '93

And already in my garage is a 147 2.0 TWIN SPARK '02. Which should I use?

That's weird. I've got both eligible Alfa Romeos in the dealership. Maybe, if Klon won't let you use one of these, try going forward 1 day, see if they're there. If you're on the 2nd day the Alfas are there, they'll be back around 70 days later.

EDIT: well, Klon's just answered the question.

I had a feeling I might win that one. I was pretty surprised when I saw that Camaro sitting in the used late 90's lot for only 8500 credits. I think this one will be much closer - I'm pretty sure I can go faster than the time I'm submitting, but I can't for the life of me string together a better lap. It also helps that the track is much more difficult to nail than the High-Speed Ring.

Tommykl, I am on day 151, so am fortuanate that they have just come round again, and the Alfa I already have, was the very first car I bought in the game. I am going to buy several of the Alfas, and use the Spider as Klon has permitted. I may try a couple of them and let Klon decide which model provides the fairest comparison. And I will come back and see if the 'correct' model is available a day later...

Damn, I had a feeling that I had posted an excellent lap, but in the end, Salamander had better luck with the car (and drove well, of course).

I fear I'm not going to be that good with the Alfas, given the FF layout found in all of the cars listed. But I'll do my best!

I'm also supporting the idea of having different championships for each game, given the subtle differences in the handling of the cars between different games.

Well, that was a quick one. I adapted to the FF layout quickly, and reminded myself of the tricks I learned in the licence tests when I tried to reach Gold in all of them. After 7 or so laps it was quite clear to me that I couldn't get around the track any quicker than I already had, so I called it quits and sent Klon the results. Hopefully I wasn't too quick about it...

You'll be lucky to manage half a lap before the car blows up and sets the entire forest on fire :D

I managed to do 5 laps before I realised I was never going to get anywhere near my time, especially when I started to do this:

Would anybody mind if I take part in the series myself? Obviously since I would have an unfair advantage, my results would be disrupting the competition which is why I'd be running alongside you, not actually scoring points.

I don't mind if you score points, I don't think its much of an advantage that the rest of us should worry about anyway. The more people the better really.

I'll give this round a go once I get one of the cars. If anyone finds one of these cars on GT5 can you let me know how you got it, I can't find any to buy at the moment.

I am going to use the Spider as Klon suggested. I bought a couple of Alfas and no other models were available the following day so this will be the model I am going to attempt my time with.

In GT5 it is very difficult to find the two cars for this challenge in the used car lot, as there are approximately 800 used cars and after each race 5 cars are added to the used car lot. Finding two specific cars is therefore the equivalent of finding a needle in a haystack. However I did buy two other Alfas, a 156 and a 147 GTA. A 147 Twinspark and Brera are available in the new car dealers, so maybe one of these should be added.
This is a cool spot.

It's actually the 147 Twinspark thats available in the new car dealers.

To help you here's a car list. Premium cars can be bought at the new car dealership (so you can buy them at any time) and Standard cars can only be bought at the used car dealership (which means you have to wait until it is in stock - I've heard reports that it has taken some people up to 8 hours of entering and exiting races just to find the car they are looking for).

Yes. An update from my post above I have managed to pick up a used Alfa Romeo Spider just through random chance. I will give the challenge a go later today.

Ok, I know that I'm not too good with Alfas or the Deep Forest, but 9 seconds? What the hell?

I guess it's hard to put in a good lap if you don't have anything to compare to (unlike in licence tests).

Nurby...oh dear, I'm going to be at the tail end I'm afraid.

I agree, I was throwing my Alfa through there like a ragdoll, but I can't see a way to make up a whole 7 seconds without further upgrading the car.

I only used R3 racing tyres, as upgrades aren't available on the PSP (which I'm using, I forgot to add that in the e-mail). I also used Standard driving physics.

If I had an unfair advantage, I didn't know about it. I saw the Alfa Romeo dealership, bought the car that seemed the quicker of the two that Klon made available, stuck on R3 racing tyres, drove 30 laps with the racing line and Standard physics, no assisted direction, and set a ridiculously quick laptime god knows how.

[lawyer mode]This is therefore a creative interpretation of the regulations. The game allows no performance upgrades whatsoever, and the PSP division regulations only mention the tyres. No rule mentions a limit on driving aids, which I am therefore entitled to use.[/lawyer mode]

I also use the PSP. I also used racing tyres. I too used driving aids. Is there really that much time difference between the two models and our drining abilities? Time will tell!
