F1 Liveries on NASCAR Cars?/The F1 COT Project

For the past two seasons, I plunked all the F1 liveries onto NASCAR cars for the NASCAR Racing 2003 Season community. The past two years I designed them similarly to a V8 Supercar, without the 'contingency' decals behind the front wheels. The engine of the actual F1 car determines what model the car goes on, so a Renault-powered car will go on a fictional Renault Laguna template I found, a Ferrari powered car on a Ferrari template I mashed together, etcetera. Cosworth cars go on unbadged Ford Fusions, with the exception of the Lotus from 2010.

Keep in mind I actually tried to recreate the look of the actual F1 car, so if the F1 livery is ugly as hell, the NASCAR COT ... will probably also be ugly as hell.

The 2009 and 2010 cars utilized the rear wing, but the 2011 cars will not, since at the start of 2011, NASCAR has done away with the wing on the Car of Tomorrow. If anyone actually wants the carfiles (for anyone that has NR2003 on here), I can send them over.

Since these are done at the start of the season and weren't updated, there are some glaring sponsor omissions. Here are some of the cars from 2010...

I know the cars show up with Goodyear tires on them. Nothing I can do about that since the renders were all done at Ten0r's Render Shop.

With the launch of the new Renault livery, I have a chance to start the 2011 set with, appropriately, Renault. This is unfinished, the finished car will actually have all the sponsors on it, and the roof camera will be red for Kubica's car, yellow for Petrov's, and blue for the reserve drivers' cars.

Yeah, actually, most of them are pretty good-looking, especially the Renault. I swear, you could put that livery on just about anything and it'll still look awesome.

I'd be interested in getting the car files, although that would mean I would also have to download the CoT mod since I still haven't gotten around to downloading that.

All liveries (except Ferrari's) look quite good on those cars, but the 360 Modena lights look horrendous in those cars.

In my opinion, I just don't like the Red Bull's liveries. Vettel's and Webber's, of course. Toro Rosso looks better.

2011 Ferrari WIP. I'll probably work on the template and the shading while I'm making these, so the Saubers and the Toro Rossos may be delayed somewhat.

Agreed! The F1 livery is awful but that looks brilliant! Not so sure about the Ferrari one, but I'm looking forward to seeing the rest!

In any case, these are good. The Ferrari ones look a bit awkward; same with the Lotus. Maybe try the Lotus on the Toyota COT rather than a new template? Worth a shot at least. As for the Ferrari ones, I remember seeing a template but I can't remember who made it. I do know that Lurn2burn made an excellent Mercedes template.

The Williams and Renault ones are the best, though I'd move taillights on the Laguna template a tad downward, or make them slightly smaller. It feels like they are crowding the rear of the car.

I like what you've done with this year's set with the side numbers better. NASCAR cars look out of whack when the numbers aren't right on the door panel.

Resurrecting this thread because the project has restarted due to me having a bit of extra time and having pictures of the actual cars with their sponsors.

The Red Bull Renault/Infiniti...





There is an interesting development, since Desmods (Mods by Rioux for anyone in the NR2003 world here) and Bullring both released their 2011 mods, I may be able to paint on those, however I'd have to port the Renault decals (not that hard) and the Ferrari decals/shading bits (a little harder) onto one of those mods. Seeing as the Bullring templates are ungodly pieces of crap, I would make them for the Rioux mod.

As for the individual paintjobs I've done here, none of them are that complicated, so I expect minimal difficulties porting them to the new templates.

You should have used the Infiniti lights decals on the Red Bull. You really should And maybe use Caterham lights on the Lotuses when they confirm the name change as well

Hmmm, I like those ideas, especially since I think Lurn2Burn already made an Infiniti!

The Fondmetal Team Malaysias are on the Ford Fusion since they have Cosworth Engines (as my criteria is that the engine the F1 car carries determines its manufacturer... picked Ford for the Cosworth due to their long association with each other), but the Caterham headlights would look really, really hilarious so I might actually do it.
