"Flav doesn't know shite about F1"

Post by noisebox »

Piquet Jr has just made himself immune from any further criticism...

http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3 ... 01,00.html

And as one of the comments on this story says, close the door on your way out, Nelson!
"will you stop him playing tennis then?", referring to Montoya's famous shoulder injury, to which Whitmarsh replied "well, it's very difficult to play tennis on a motorbike"

Flav (it says wrote, but he said it, he didn't write it) wrote:I've always been fair with my drivers,"

 Tell that to Brundle, Patrese, Lehto, Verstappen, Herbert, Wurz, Button, Trulli and Fisichella!

If Piquet wants to be in F1, then he has a weird way of showing it. He's pretty much guaranteed to be out now, and I can't see anyone else offering him a seat, not even one of the new teams next year. Unless Ferrari see him as an ideal short term replacement...?

hahaha

He obviously knew he had nothing to lose with his words, i applaud it, much more interesting than going out quietly

Yeah, Nelson was obviously on the way out anyway. He'll have done himself no harm at all with that. Everyone thinks Flav is an awful manager of drivers within a team anyway. Therea are plenty of places on the grid next year for someone with a bit of experience.

Think of it this way, Frenzen struggled with the pressure he was put under at Williams, when he was in the more friendly "family" of Jordan he challenged for the championship!

If it was any other driver then he would be kicked half way through 2008, but due to Piquet's name, his father's money and sponsorers; he has managed to survive!!

Still confused about why F1 bosses are under the impression there is a conveyor belt of ready-made talent to replace these people with.

Piquet may have been a fairly poor driver but he didn't deserve the treatment he got. They should've taken the pressure off and given him this season to prove himself. Instead it's Briatore's 'carrot and 12 bore shotgun' approach to man management.

He's fired, right? You can't say your team's boss doesn't know anything about F1 and get away with it.

I'm sure he was already going, and wanted to make his, somewhat justifiable, point that he has been given a raw deal by his team, and go out with a bang.

It's strange that (for me at least), given his choice of vocablulary in the situation, this is the only time in his F1 career that he has seemed respectable and in the right. ;)

THere goes Piquet. I didn't think him of all people would say the truth, but its probably better that way.

I do admire him for speaking his mind and saying hie piece, Flav is one of those managers who in a different field would constantly find himself in court being sued by angry former employees.

His management style really is the "if my driver is not performing up to my ever varying standards I'll just put a shotgun to his head and a knife to his throat to make him preform", it's really no wounder that so many drivers who've worked for him come away from the experience hating him because he forces them into distinct roles within the team and the driver who gets the coveted "first" role is given all of the oppertunities while the other guy is often treated like a man who is forced into subservience and has an invisible ax just above his head that will come down on him at Flav's discretion.

I guess this means he's already fired, and he's making this comment about it now, even though he doesn't say it officially. We can expect an official announcement soon.

For his replacement, I would ask Flavio to please, please bring in a decent and experienced driver, like Bourdais or Sato, though I've a bad hunch that he'll pick Grosjean or di Grassi.

EDITED TO ADD: Though, if he has to pick a new driver, then it would be smart to pick one of Grosjean/di Grassi's main rivals in GP2, so they can win the title more easily.

Very good point.

Also worth noting that Flav is the man who effectively sent Piquet Sr out of F1 by bringing one M. Schumacher into the Benetton team in 1991 at the expense of Roberto Moreno (likeable, not as fast as Piquet Sr, and therefore the perfect no. 2).

Don't expect to see Flav on the Piquet family Christmas card list.

Nelsinho is known for making ridiculous statements that sound like they were coming from the mouth of his father. Still, it was only a matter of time until the two characters in question, him and his team boss were to have a falling out, given their individual track records.

But what Renault needs now is an experienced driver, not another rookie.

I was thinking Jamiroquai, who I think tested for Renualt once and acted like a tit on Top Gear. Grosjean isn't bad though, if his GP2 races are anything to go by there'll be plenty of spins and accidents with him. The first lap in Valencia/Spa could be chaotic with him around.

Grosjean is a bit wild isn't he? I think Nico is a better prospect. Not sure what I think of van der garde.

What about Senna (I know he won't be in the Renault) but does anyone know what he is up to these days? He surely must be knocking on lots of door at the moment.

Well, perhaps Flav is not the favorite team manager out there, but he's been in f1 for about twenty years, and had success in making MS and Alonso world champions. Twice. And Piquet has barely been in f1 for two seasons and he already claims that he knows more about f1 than Flavio!! And poor results aside... If he gets fired, good ridance! :P
