the sugarbabes - octogonhorrrian girl band who have had more lineup changes than the 1976-89-94 F1 seasons combined, only able to play one instrument, but only in order to get their roles.

There is an endless list of bands from all over the world who have rock elements to them, not even the ones that are truly "Rock", but come close to it.

These three Imposters have no relevance to whatever they seem to be being paid to do at the first round of the F1 season.

I live in Germany. There was a time when Tokio Hotel was considered rock. We really have lost any feeling of what rock is so this does not shock me one bit. But I smell chances for freudian slips in this thread.

I actually like David Guetta's music. If you or anyone else wants to call me dumb or pelt me with rotten papayas I don't have any problems with that, go on. And I guess the F1 Rocks moniker is a pun of some sort, even though the artists that are going to perform there are by no means rockers.

By the way, the Sheikh says it'll be a weekend of entertainment. Was he thinking about the race when he said that? :lol:

Unfortunately my guess is that he probably refered to corporate entertainement. So, if we take into account that they are too busy socializing to even notice any racing going on, he is just right.

Looks like Bernie is trying too hard to make F1 appealing to a younger audience, which most likely won't work. I don't forsee anyone going to Bahrain just to see some rubbish electronic/pop bands performing as a side act to one of the dullest races on the calender. If Bernie wants to boost attendance at F1 races by way of side acts, he should take a leaf out of V8 Supercars' book and feature bands that appeal to the established audience. If you're going to call something F1 Rocks make sure that there is an act is actually a rock act on the cards. One last thing, it says in the news article that "music lovers" are in for a treat. I don't know exactly what type of music lover other than a teenager that thinks a song released 2 months ago is old will even want to listen to these bands.

I certainly wouldn't. The majority of my school would, they all love the rubbish on the charts that qualifies as music nowadays. Then there's me, who mainly listens to proper bands from the 1990s... How things have changed.

Proper bands from the 90s? Which ones do you call proper bands?

Blur, Oasis, Pulp and The Verve were all good bands in the UK back then. Also include from the USA, Nirvana and the Foo Fighters (which are actually quite popular at school).

Not their first album. But I agree that they became known with "Smells like teen spirit" in the 90s (1991). And I would go as far to say they set the trend for the 90s rock music.

I'm 12, and I think the 70s and 80s were the best decades for music. Kraftwerk, The Cure, Rick Astley, Duran Duran, A-ha, ABBA, Madness, The Human League, Icehouse, 1927 etc FTW!

I prefer the 90s, but the 80s produced one of my all-time favourites bands, The Stone Roses. I cannot believe they were not mentioned by any of the members on this board. Here are two of their best.

It still is a bit bad anyway (in F1 life long fans scale). My guess is that they are trying to attract young teenagers (mainly girls which is not bad). If they can pull it off then it is hats off for them!

Linkin Park are absolutely awful though. It will attract some more teenagers to the sport. Maybe then they could actually bring in some talented bands/musicians next time.

The only teenagers who like Linkin Park in my experience are middle class types who like them because they think they're rebellious and alternative, the sort of people who have no interest in football and never turn up for PE lessons. Not the sort who are going to watch Formula 1.

On this 1980's theme here, give a shout out to New Order and the Cocteau Twins. You'd never guess indecipherable Scottish singing that sounded like it had been recorded in a cave could sound pretty damn good. And Blue Monday kicks arse, has to be said.

Thing is, most of the teenagers (obviously there are exceptions, some of them are members of this forum

) don't like Formula 1. This is not because they found it unbearable and disgusting, but because they didn't bothered themselves to see it. To really see it. Of course the lack of on track action doesn't help them to feel attracted to the sport... Anyway, the idea is that if you attach your product (F1) to something enjoyed by many, some sort of mainstream culture (Linkin Park or some other bands), some people that ended showing up to see the latter can decide to spend some time and see a race. After this we can only hope that some F1 magic and all the race track environment do their trick. If even 5% of those teens conclude that they actually like F1 because of its awesomely cool cars (I like to think that way, so let me be

) or because they got hooked by having followed a live race that they otherwise wouldn't go to (without their band) it is a victory!

Oh, some people like Linkin Park because they play a lot on TV and Radios and many people are forced to listen. And if many people listen and the MTV's of this world decide to play and decide that it is cool, then teens will listen to it. The more rebellious and outside of society they are, the better. Obviously their sound should be something that the majority of teens like to listen. And if it is good enough for proms then you have a hit! It is called the flock theory.

I like your statement about New Order's Blue Monday

It's the perfect song for a night drinking and having a good time with nice looking girls

But I still like Linkin Park, not because they are rebellious (my arse is probably more rebellious than them), but because of their music.
