Here's how it would work out practically if Europe and Pacific GP's were Jerez and Kuala Lumpur.
Not that much spread compared to nowadays, but that's because I'm going where all the good circuits are!

7. Canadian Grand Prix - Gilles Villeneuve
8. US Grand Prix - Any random oval (again, just to see what happens)
9. Brazilian Grand Prix - Jacarepaguá (because it's fun to say)
10. European Grand Prix - Nordschleiffe (enjoy, Nakajima)
11. Belgian Grand Prix - Spa (following on nicely from the last bracket - Spa like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxVpOfWyjHg)
12. San Marino Grand Prix - Actually in San Marino somewhere
13. Italian Grand Prix - Monza (without any chicanes)
14. South African Grand Prix - Kyalami (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a16uV0jWDA)
15. Vanuatu Grand Prix - Around the streets of Port Vila
16. Japanese Grand Prix - Suzuka
17. Australian Grand Prix - A week long desert drive through the Outback, culminating in a normal race at Adelaide.
18. Antarctica Grand Prix - A permanent Tilkedrome draws small crowds, a poor race, and is in the middle of nowhere. The threat of snow and ice creating a slippery track does not eventuate, and a procession ensues. The Brawns struggle for tyre temperature.

San Marino Grand Prix - Actually in San Marino somewhere
I've just pissed myself laughing at the thought of Formula one cars racing up to the city San Marino itself, perched as it is, on the top of a sheer cliff face. Imagine the Loews hairpin at Monaco about twenty times in a row.
It would look pretty impressive.
The idea of the roads around San Marino being closed off and turned into an F1 circuit is a really exciting one though.

I say replace Pheonix with Road America, Melbourne with Mount Panorama and make the Pacific GP Singapore and it'll be perfect

Re: Create your ideal 18-race calendar
copied my own post from the thread shinji posted and removed two races.
1: Brazilian Grand Prix (Interlagos)
I've always liked the idea of starting out in Brazil, and the Interlagos track is unique.
2: Mexican Grand Prix (Hermanos Rodrigues)
The Peraldalta is still one of the more respect-awakening curves, and the circuit is wholly quite nice.
3: US Grand Prix (Laguna Seca)
We need an US grand Prix and we need to have it on a purpose built road course, not a street course or a Roval, so Laguna and the Corkscrew fit the bill.
4: Canadian Grand Prix (Montreal)
Even Though Mosport could be rather interesting, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is the only viable choice.
Then to Europe for a ten race stretch, moving roughly in geographical order
5: British Grand Prix (Brands Hatch)
It was really a toss-up, but unless they returned Silverstone to the 70's config, its Brands.
6: French Grand Prix (Paul Ricard)
With La Sarthe being a no-no for a f1-grand prix due to Mulsanne, Paul Ricard in its pre-86 config is the only viable choice for a grand prix in France... Mistral <3
7: Monaco
The crown Jewel is a must.
8: Italian Grand Prix (Monza)
Nuff said, no other alternative for an italian GP.
9, halfwaypoint of the season: San Marino Grand Prix (Imola)
Especially if restored to its pre-94 config...
10: Czech Grand Prix (Brno)
A great track that should be hosting an f1-race instead of all these Tilkerings.
11: European Grand Prix (Nurburgring)
As much as I'd love to see F1 back in the Nordscheiffe, thats too fantasy for even this, so the NewRing will do.
12: German Grand Prix (Hockenheim)
in the pre-02 config. One of the biggest shames in the F1's Trackmodification history.
13: Belgian Grand Prix (Spa)
A No-brainer.
14: Turkish Grand Prix (Istanbul)
Probably the only circuit TIlke succeeded in.
Then to the home stretch at Asia/Australia, starting with:
15:Malaysian Grand Prix (Sepang)
I got this odd like of the track, so I'd love to see it in the calendar for decades to come
16: Singapore Grand Prix
For a street circuit, its good.
17: Japanese Grand Prix (Suzuka)
Suzuka is imo one of the top tracks of all time in formula one.
and Finally the season ender
18: Australian Grand Prix (alternating between Adelaide and Melbourne)

Re: Create your ideal 18-race calendar
1. Irish Grand Prix - Mondello Park (oh yes - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondello_Park)
I'd love it, but it's not ever going to happen. They'd have to meander around some back roads to get to the track via Prosperous, because the R409 road mentioned on the wiki article includes a one lane bridge that an F1 transporter wouldn't fit across.
It's also, in terms of spectacle - an awful place to have an F1 race. Far too narrow and twisty to even contemplate an overtaking manouvre anywhere on it. Although in terms of challenge it'd be right up there. Braking points are a real bitch to find on it apparently.
Re: Create your ideal 18-race calendar
The idea of an Irish Grand Prix is nice though. I've only been to one race - the 2007 British - and since my brother who I went with was working full days on both Friday and Monday it was annoying to have to fly to Luton and not get to sleep 'till about 3 in the morning then have to get up and sit in a traffic jam for 3 hours. A half hour drive to Kildare is a lot more appealing, especially since half my family lives in Newbridge so I could stay there rather than in some crap Travel Lodge.
Though obviously it's never going to happen. Even if for some reason we had a world class track, where's the money? Even during the 'boom' years, Ireland would have been too uninteresting a place for a race.

Forget your Irish GP i would love a Scotish Grand Prix but you would have to build a new track or extend the 1 track we have so my calender is as follows....
1 South Africa - Kyalami 70s Layout
2 Argentina - Potrero de los Funes Circuit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potrero_de_los_Funes_Circuit
3 Brazil - Interlagos 70s Layout
4 Mexico - Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez
5 US GP - Road America
6 Canada - Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
7 Iceland - New track
8 Sweden - Anderstorp
9 Scotland - Knockhill (extended)
10 Germany - Nordshliefe and GP track combi
11 Austria - Osteriechring
12 Italy - Mugello(far more interesting than Monza or Imola)
13 Turkey - Istanbul
14 Iran - Somwhere near Terhan
15 India - New track
16 Singapore - Street track (Night)
17 China - Shanghai
18 Japan - Suzuka

Re: Create your ideal 18-race calendar
I've always felt the Scandinavians were hard done by. There should be a Finnish GP. You'd have to have it in high-summer and find a patch of land that didn't eventually lead you into the middle of a lake, but I'm sure it's possible.

Too bad they abandoned Keimola in the 70s...
And any of the current tracks here would also need some major renovation on them to be anywhere near a F1 track. Or then just build a new track. But nothing's gonna happen because there is not enough money for that.

Lets build our very own Avus at the Helsinki - Lahti highway!
Its wide enough for a plane to emergency land on, I think it's wide enough to hold a two way f1 race!
I got Pointed Opinions and I ain't afraid to use em!

The only difficulty would be to find a suitable place for the cars to turn back. Maybe one of those emergency exits between the lanes would come in handy?

They don't need to turn back... it'll be the crossover event between F1 and the WRC... the F1 cars will rally race in Helsinki.
Re: Create your ideal 18-race calendar
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I really fancy a go at this. I'm going to use
1. Australia - Mount Panorama
2. South Africa - Kyalami (old layout)
3. Argentina - Autodromo Oscar Galvez (1981 layout)
4. Brazil - Interlagos (70s layout)
5. Switzerland - Bern-Bremgarten (a throwback to the 50s)
6. Austria - Osterrecihring (can't spell it, don't care)
7. Monaco - Monte-Carlo
8. Canada - Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
9. USA - Laguna Seca
10. France - Charade (aka Clermont-Ferrand)
11. Great Britain - Brands Hatch
12. Germany - Hockenhiem (pre-2001)
13. Turkey - Istanbul
14. Belgium - Spa Francochamps
15. Italy - Monza
16. Japan - Suzuka
17. Singapore - Singapore Street Circuit
18. Oceania - Adelaide
Gave Oz two Grand Prix because they always seem to make such a good job of them and no-one would object to going there twice a year.

Uninteresting in terms of scenery or glamour, yes. However, that's not why you'd want an Irish Grand Prix, and the same applies to the tracks here.
The reason you'd want an Irish Grand Prix is all to do with the weather. Depending on the time of year, you ccould havve either a highly unpredictable race, or the guaranteed wet-weather race. It would be a good chance for Sutil and co. to show off their specialist racing conditions.

I'm sorry, are my eyes not functioning correctly? Because from what I can tell that says Magany-Cours and Valencia. That can't be right, can it?
Re: Create your ideal 18-race calendar
Haha, obviously my attempt at a rubbish calendar wasn't good enough when you only point out 2 of the circuits.
I could have made a better one but I tried to keep within the rules of the main post.
EDIT: Hang on a minute, you take objection to Magany Cours but not Caesars Palace???

The A1-Ring shouldn't be there if you were going out for a bad calendar. It's Tilke's best by far.

My mistake. I appear to have a blind spot for it. Understandable, I'm sure you'll admit.
Re: Create your ideal 18-race calendar
Yeah it is pretty invisible.
I just went for tracks I don't personally enjoy (which is why there are so many street circuits there) mainly because of a lack of overtaking on them.
