Re: BBC commentary team?
David Coulthard bored me to death. If the BBC controllers told him to tone down the attitude they should be shot!! What happened to "I'll kick three colous of s**t out of the little b*****d" DC?!
Re: BBC commentary team?
DC is a bit boring, yes. They did well though, hopefully in time he'll settle and feel like he doesn't have to sound like he's reading from a script. He spotted Lewis' broken undertray pretty snappily though
Also chuckled when Martin nearly (and subsequently sidestepped around) described Alonso as "getting a face full of Virgin"

Quite simply, Martin still sounded like an expert commentator who only really did "play-by-play" at the start and the finish. It's obviously a fine line how much description of what you can see on screen is required, but Brundle erred on the side of not saying enough, IMHO.
He's been doing the expert commentator role for 14 years, and has worked alongside three main commentators whose worst fault was possibly talking too much. He's probably trying to avoid that mistake.
Go home, Bernie Ecclestone!

Re: BBC commentary team?
Brundle didn't really give it enough sense of drama, but the main issue was DC, who was so boring as to be anonymous. He doesn't add anything to what Martin Brundle says.
The only times he stood out were when he was getting things wrong- for instance calling Hamilton's undertray problem 'critical' for aero performance, and then discovering two laps later Hamilton was quicker than Vettel by a tenth of a second.
However DC did get cake shoved in his face by Vettel on the F1 forum, and also had to mask the embarrassment when Vettel joked about him having cum on his face.

Re: BBC commentary team?
I only got quali and part of the race on the BBC, and I thought it was good, but Brundle really needs to stop saying "Aldgesswarri".

And "Pastamaldanada".

Re: BBC commentary team?
I thought that for a first effort it was pretty good, they did miss a few things and DC was a little too reserved but I'm sure they'll get better with a few races under their belt. I certainly didn't miss Legard at all - long may he continue to commentate on thrillfests like Barnsley vs Sheff Utd in the championship.

Solid and informative, but maybe a little boring. Probably they will improve. But the days of Murray and James Hunt are long gone.
Less annoying than Legard though.
I think the problem with Brundle and Coulthard is that they both come from similar backgrounds and experience, so they will agree all the time. Not much entertaining dialogue.

Re: BBC commentary team?
I though they were OK. Nowhere near as good as the days of Murray but a definite improvement over Legard. They missed quite a bit, but all past commentators have been accused of that at some time or another. As for the extent to which they'll improve with experience though, I'm not sure. Here's something that may make interesting reading: http://www.f1rejects.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11 a thread about Legard after his first race. Most people (including me) he would improve given time, but that never happened; he just got worse. We'll just have to wait and see.

Re: BBC commentary team?
Ideally we'd have crofty in the box on main with martin doing the expert insight, that would be the perfect commentary, but this wasn't so bad to watch

Spot on. Not really sure why the BBC didn't give it a go to be honest, would've been a more natural replacement for Legard.
Murray: "This could give Mika Hakkinen his opportunity to get past Ralf Schumacher, as Nigel Mansell did to Senna in 1959."
Martin: "I was born in 1959; I think it was a touch later than that, Murray!"

I too would like to see that, but at the same time couldn't bear to see Crofty and Ant split up. They're a fantastic pairing.

True, their chemistry makes that partnership work brilliantly. Not sure what Croft/Brundle would be like, not as good I fear...
But anything is better than Legard. Well. Almost anything.

I was told by someone who's met him that Croft didn't fancy it, but I have no idea of the truth of that.

Re: BBC commentary team?
It was a bit weird hearing Brundle introducing everything. I think they did a good job overall, although both were a little dull, it's much better than Legard getting over excited and calling everything "crucial". The next big test will be if there's a really mad race -- I think Brundle will keep up, but will DC.
Martin Brundle for FIA president. We need someone with common sense up in the ivory tower of power.

Re: BBC commentary team?
I thought they did a good job - a little anonymous, which is better than distractingly awful. Martin loves the phrase "fifty pence piece" in conjunction with the phrase "rattle the fillings out of your head", and David seems to have been sponsored to use the word "window" as often as possible, but generally all right.
