2011 Malaysian Grand Prix Discussion
Under 24 hours to go till first free practice in Malaysia and the weather is the same old dry spells followed by thunderstorms. However, anyone want to hazard a guess as to when the thunderstorms are happening this year? ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

I have a feeling that it will be dry in the first five minutes of Q1, and then it goes BAM, raining all qualifying and we might see a bit of a fluke grid come race day.

You're closer to the truth than you realise. From what I've been hearing from twitter (The Team Lotus guys have been particually talkative this week) is that thunderstorms have been hitting the track at 4pm local time. EVERY, SINGLE, DAY. (For the record in 09 it was 6pm and 2010 it was 5pm).

And what time is the race start?
Hint: 4pm.

We'll get two race laps in before a safety car procession.

Here's an interesting thing: What if only half the track got rain? It's happened to my front yard before, why not a huge track like Malaysia?

Using what happened in the V8SC at Sydney last year, those who switched to wets first ended up winning, while those who stayed on slicks found the wall. At the same time.

And as ridiculous as that was to watch, it was pretty hilarious at the same time.

Karthikeyan left the pitlane. 3 corners later the engine blew up. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Goddamnit HRT, they'd better get that back to the pits and running again, or I'll have stayed up for nothing

Watching what's left of Heidfeld's right front tyre erode away is really, really entertaining.

Liuzzi keeps coming out, then going straight back in again. Hispania are up to something strange today, it would seem.

Hopefully it was merely a precaution they turned the engine off, he won't be getting out again in FP1 if they have to change an entire engine

Petrov just binned it at turn 9.
EDIT: Looks like the left front suspension simply desintergrated. Not his fault

Liuzzi just did an 1:45.228. 107% of Webber's time right now is 1:45.376, so maybe Liuzzi will make the cut tomorrow...?
Re: 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix Discussion
Even if Tonio doesn't, they've got grounds to ask to start anyway.

The suspension damage seems to be the cause rather than an effect.

IMHO, it seems to be more tyre failure -> suspension failure -> gravel trap

Re: 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix Discussion
Remember Pirelli test their new tires out on friday two practices and this could be the effect with the suspension issues for the teams. BTW Mclaren are still moaning about the Red Bull front wing.

Re: 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix Discussion
Well I don't know why McLaren are whinging because Button just set a time on softs in a qually run just 0.005 slower than Webber's fastest time (also set on softs in a qually run)

A question: what IS it with the desintegrating suspensions, especially with Renault?
