Yeah... Pity I was a lap down this time though.

The blow up was comparable in scale to that of Douglas Mann's blow-up at the Nurburgring last season. I apologise for indirectly ruining Daniel Melrose's race, as he powered out of the pits a few seconds later, hit my oil and spun out into the barrier.

This is super super fantastic! It feels wonderful! Climbing up the field after such a terrible quali was very very good! The pass on Padraig, I did not expect, but he made a mistake, and I took it, I think our engine power won the day! Merci beaucoup!!!

Woops, forgot I wasn't the only French speaker here. Still, that's pretty much what I would have said (turning into a James Huntesque guy).
Never mind. Nobody can go through life and be totally isolated from language like that! No offence taken.

Daniel Melrose wrote:I was effectively leading the race by about half a minute whilst leaving the pits after my final pitstop before the car hit a patch of oil and speared me off into the nearest barrier. The pace is definitely there as Phillipe showed in scoring a brilliant debut victory but we need to build an early gap to make defending the title easier.

I was focusing on building up a gap, pulling away a couple tenths to half a second a lap, when on lap 17 the suspension collapsed in the middle part of the lap, forcing me out. I suppose I should be tankful it occurred there and not into the Senna S like with Jeroen, but 3 suspension failures already is putting us well behind the 8-ball at this point. I'm not sure why these problems have suddenly appeared - perhaps it's just that Melbourne and Interlagos had a bad effect on the suspension, but regardless, we have to go and sort this before this problems eliminates us from contention.

Worst, Hagane finished outside of the points. We have to find out quickly why our car doesn't like fast corners otherwise we are going to have a difficult season. Since the beginning of the weekend that I felt the car was going to struggle but I did not expected to be this behind. It is a strong battle in the midfield and the guys are working hard, so we had already some updates on the line for the next race anyway. Hopefully we can turn around this flaw and improve the car overall.

I would have passed him but he was driving like a maniac, it is only because I am so nice that I did not raise a complaint with the stewards over idiotic driving as some of your defending moves could have easily taken us both out/

Funnily enough, Douglas Mann is hoping for a Williams win too. For what he considers to be the number 1 driver in the team based upon last year's results.

It looks like I'm racing one of my old sparring partners from last year, Douglas Mann. I hope we have a good duel.
I didn't know Jordan had entered four cars for this race, and Ferrari didn't bother turning up....

I'm very pleased with myself after that lap - I thought I could crack into the 1:25s here after practice, and I'm glad that I could prove myself right. The car feels very strong here and I'm confident that we can get a good result tomorrow. It looked for a long time like we would lock out the front row, but unfortunately for Jeroen, Daniel put in a great lap and knocked him down to 3rd. Nonetheless, we'll both be starting on the clean side tomorrow, so that's in our favour. The team has put all the effort possible into figuring out our suspension problems, so hopefully that will make a difference in tomorrow's race, and we can both score for once!
Chamionship-wise, well, fortunately for me and Jeroen, nobody has taken an assertive stance in the Drivers' Championship, but we're going to have to hustle in the next couple of races to take the fight to Jordan in the Constructors' Chamionship. I think I'm owed a win after Brazil, so hopefully I can right that wrong, and get my own challenge off the ground with a win tomorrow.

Maybe it's like Lotus this season
Me and Melrose are Team Lotus, and they are Lotus Renault GP
I had a horrible session I went out early and thought the weather would get worse but it turned out the opposite way and sadly the car had a issue with the gearbox which meant another run was impossible for the rest of the session. Deeply disappointed but I got a chance to jump into a Jordan for a few laps and no one noticed so we can take alot of information back to Ferrari from it

I lost a bit of ground, to Philippe, John and Barii, but by the next lap I was past Philippe and Barii, and on the next I was past John. It was then a matter of catching James, and we traded a few fastest laps, until I got within 3 seconds of him by, lap 9, I think. By lap 12 I was stuck behind him, when my suspension just went 'crack', sending me flying off. It's bloody luck that I didn't hit James, otherwise it would have been mega-disappointing. Obviously I'm upset, because I think I had the pace to overhaul James, but it's great that he's taken victory here, and hopefully we'll go on to do better things in the future. He really was on fire, lapping everybody but Daniel and Damon. Great job mate.

The Prost guys were absolutely on it today so for us it was lucky to an extent that Prost are having reliability problems.

Still, a podium position is welcome to open my 1998 points account

James Davies wrote:Yeah! That's more like it! That was probably the best race I've driven in my life. It was a shame the suspension problems cropped up for Jeroen again, because I'm sure we would've gotten a 1-2 had that not happened. He was right behind me when it happened, which led to a pretty scary moment when he slid right past me into the last hairpin, but thankfully I avoided him. It would've been interesting to see who could've won had that not happened though - obviously Jeroen was faster at the time, but I was on a longer first stint, so it would've been a close fought race.
The team has been working frantically back at base to come up with a fix for these problems, and I think they have it sorted, so hopefully come Barcelona, we will not have to worry about these suspension failures and we can concentrate on taking the fight to Jordan. That said, even with Jeroen's retirement, this was a good day for us in the championship as only Daniel managed to score for Jordan, and he was third, so it's still pretty open right now.
