done some swift calculations and a 1:24 has a 107% time of 1:30 or so, if the front runners don't use softs they should be safe, big if though

I think it depends on if Heidfeld can get his car ready. If he can't, Q1 will be a waste of time, but if he can... A few minds may be thinking back to Webber in China...

But if Heidfeld can go out and Di Resta improves his time, the Q1 cutoff could very well be in the 1m 24s. Risky.

I think the Red Bull's & Mclaren's can get out of Q1 using the hard's but everyone else will have to use softs for Q1. Very risky thought as the hards look like they need 2/3 laps to warm (Red Bull's & Mclaren's) & 3/4 laps to warm up with everyone else. The Ferrari's in particular look like they are really struggling to switch on the hards (maybe the rear wing ban has effected this). Alonso couldn't even operate DRS & KERS in the places you would have expect him to!!!

Very impressive with Vettel one lap banzai attempt. Yesterday he looked a bit worried with Webber's pace. Today, I bet he's now got Webber a bit worried, so very interesting to see with wins that one in Quali.

Mclaren got held up in traffic on their Quali sim, so we haven't yet seen their full pace yet.

Schumi desperatley needs a good qualifying session this afternoon. He does well in practice, but I don't know what goes wrong in qualifying for him.

Very true, but remember Rosberg got held up by traffic on his Quali sim & lost approx 0.5 in S3.

Nevertheless Schuey, looks to be close to Rosberg, in terms of pace.

On top of that, seeing that Ferrari are not confident of their qualifying pace, it is quite probable that one of the Ferrari drivers could go out on soft tyres in Q1 and in the process set a quite quick lap. Of course, this all depends whether Renault can prepare Heidfeld's car in time for Q1...

Well, Twitter can be useful for some things - according to the Renault Twitter feed, the cause of Heidfeld's fire has been tracked down to a broken exhaust. At the moment, the team are a little concerned about possible chassis damage, although they have announced that they are bolting in a new engine a little while ago. Kravitz has confirmed that they are now fitting the gearbox onto the car - but it looks very touch and go whether they'll be able to get the car ready for Q1.

Natalie the pit walker for Five Live says Heidfeld is in his car and probably going to run, this could be a very interesting end to the session!

Enter a new rule: At some random races, skip Q2 and Q3 [edit: without prior notice] and let the race start with the Q1 results.

Imagine:
MSC
PET
MAL
ALO
MAS
ROS
WEB
KOB
BUE
ALG
etc...

Kovalainen made it both in Malaysia and Spa last year. So, third and the first in dry conditions.

Heikki outqualifies Force India! Not likely to stay ahead for long but not the point, gotta say, seems a strange Q2. Kudos to Maldonado for getting into Q3

I keep my fingers crossed for McDonaldo in Q3.
And what a great position for Kova! Although it is rather unlikely that that he will get past FI and/or STR.
