After announcing his retirement live on Radio LeMans today; then possibly changing his mind, one of the all time Legends of the Sport has indeed retired, this time for good (he says now).
He's now 81 & his career spanned 63 years...with a few gaps.....
Hope we'd all like to wish him a long & happy retirement.....

"Other than the car behind and the driver who might get a bit startled with the sudden explosion in front, it really isn't a major safety issue from that point of view,"
So how much older will Mansell be when he announces his own retirement?
But congratulations to Stirling for surviving such a dangerous period of the sport's history, while being successful, and continuing what he loves to do for so long. May he enjoy his retirement.

His what?! That sounds particularly nasty.......ouch!
Did you mean back? He broke both ankles, some foot bones, & chipped vertebrae in a fall down a lift shaft at his home (3 floors!) in early March 2010 & was back driving again in July (I think).

Mansell will never officially retire. There's more chance of Nick Heidfeld winning a race or Jerome D'Ambrosio or Vitantonio Liuzzi unrejectifying himself.
Back to topic, Sir Stirling, I wish you a lenghty and enjoyable retirement.
Have a happy retirement Stirling. You may not have won an F1 championship, but you were a champion in our hearts. You did more in you're career, than most drivers ever would have in three lifetimes. You were one of the greatest drivers that ever lived, and you will be remembered that, for years to come. Best of luck to you.

The sad thing is im 21 years old and I watch it but Sir Stirling Moss is a true hero of motorsport, my dad and I met him at goodwood a few years ago a real true gentlemen and always friendly. The funniest thing he said about F1 cars now is that Monkeys could drive them. Takecare Sir Moss.

He took part in the Silverstone Classic last year - and, predictably enough, it was the car that couldn't stand the pace (he had to retire after getting stuck in 4th gear), not Moss. I have to say, though, given his character I wouldn't be surprised if he changes his mind and returns to the cockpit ahead of the next Goodwood Revival.

What more can you say?
Martin Brundle, on watching a replay of Grosjean spinning: "The problem with Grosjean is that he want to take a look back at the corner he's just exited"
