The question is - does going into liquidation count as a violation of contract with the FIA? It's the only way they can fall off the entry list for sure.

No. It only counts as a violation of contract if races are missed. So in theory, a really quick liquidation could lead to another entity being able to pick up the entry and use it. However, I don't think there's enough time for that to happen in practise.

I'll copy what I've said on another website regarding this matter
I say: it’s crap created by the Spanish media, who cannot bear the thought of one of “their men” faltering. VW has stated soooo often, that F1 is not an option for them and I doubt their opinion has changed now. And even if it should have, they would simply aspire for an entry of their own and wouldn’t take over a mediocre pseudo-team with a chassis of unknown quality.

Well, I've read from a member of the Whole Spanish Press that Campos could be in Bahrein; none other that Bernie Ecclestone was negotiating with majoritary accionist Jose Ramon Carabante the terms to keep the team afloat. Carabantes could have put €6,000,000 to pay Dallara the money they owed to them. Best part of it is, they want to get rid of Adrian Campos and, come 2011, sell the team to Volkswagen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember, Whole Spanish Press always have the truth before other press....

This rumor is getting dumber by the minute. Why would Bernie Ecclestone, who has stated his rejection of Campos in favour of Stefan Grand Prix multiple times, try to keep the team alive and well? And the Spanish media must be thinking that old man's senile if they think that he and Carabante would want to sell the team to a buyer of whom they wouldn't even know if he's interested in buying.

Lola wouldn't make it in time. If the T93/30 and T97/30 were execrable and suicide-inducing, respectively, if they made it into the grid, the car would be laps off the pace...

First of all, it was Bernie supposedly buying into the same Campos tem he has been criticising in the past, now he is supposed to be moderating a deal between Campos and a company which is only interested in supplying, at most, an engine IF the Global Race Engine is accepted in 2012 (because they want to be able to compete on engine performance, and can use information from the GRE for their road car division).
Sounds like a fantasy story made up by a Spanish journalist who doesn't want to see Campos collapse, because I can see no logic in this supposed deal whatsoever.
At this rate, the more important question is who would be the reserve team - if there is even a reserve team available. Yes, the spectre of Stefan GP raises it's head, but I can't see Todt and the FIA taking kindly to them. The problem is, no other team would probably be capable of making it to the 1st race. Let's take Lola as an example - they would have no engine supplier, no tyre contract, no transport, nothing - and have barely a month to get all of that together.

Yes, that's true. It was such a dumb rumour I don't know why I bothered posting it. Campos won't make it to the 2010 grid-that's it. But the FIA should let Stefan GP in-they seem prepared enough to be at least bearable. And Ecclestone has said he's keen on see Stefan on the grid, so that definately means something. Even if Todt is smitten on that idea, he will have to at least listen Ecclestone.

In a different idea, I understand Bernie would like to talk the team's chances down and then buy it for a song, or pave the way for VW to buy it for pennies. He knows he needs more manufacturers in F1 - they're the one with the money - and VW may just beat Toyota to the top of the world market in 2010.

Warning: Has written rumour all over it, but it's official press, not dedicated to build rumours about F1.

News: not very encouraging but not worse than already expected here:

Acccording to argentinean press http://www.clarin.com/diario/2010/02/17 ... 142147.htm, but according to them the rest of the world (especially US (?), says that USF1 was already clear on the fact that they wouldn't reach 3 first races, but worse, they say that Windsor told in tears to Lopez and Lopez's manager that it's probable that there wont be USF1 team at all. It says that Chad Hurley (founder of Youtube) have already departed and he should be reaching a deal with Campos, who has both chassis finished (Dallara has them, actually, but Campos doesn't have the money to pay for them and Hurley would). In this case Lopez manager should be trying to get the second seat to his managed at Campos. In fact, Lopez and his manager would be in England right now (arg press throws the idea of meeting with Ecclestone (which has a good relationship with Lopez Manager, by the way) within he context of a question mark in the same sentence).

Stefan it's mentioned but only tangencially, as a last resort for Lopez, since the subjects deals around Lopez chances. Therefore, it does not even worth mentioning it.

While I have my reserves over the subjet, with investors jumping from a "in a comma-state" team to an almost already defunct one, it's rare for Clarin newspaper to start posting this kind of things out of nowhere. Not that they are specialized in F1 (by no means), but aside from political stand they are a reasonable reliable source and, in the case of an sport they do not cover so much, they tend to chew what others have already cooked well.

Update from posted earlier, Clarin insist on it and gives more detail http://www.clarin.com/diario/2010/02/17 ... 142147.htm. Taking information from their own given by Lopez people and motorsport Total http://www.motorsport-total.com/f1/news ... 21713.html (please, someone from germany, clarify if they are reliable).

To make it brief: USF1 would fall, Lopez would align himself with Senna, Campos would get the money from Hurley, Dallara from Campos, and Stefan gets the entry. Intense negotiations under way in London (from Arg report, can't read german and, for google'translating, I prefer someone who actually speaks the language to give his own version).

Sudden canibalisation, may I say, But maybe this is the only way to save a complete grid.

Phoenix: Do you thought this as a chance? I wouldn't imagined that (and still to refuse to believe):

1) Dallara continued on their own their development awaiting a miracle from Campos.

2) That Campos were in position in which they were preferable to USF1 to make Hurley jump from one sinking boat to another (I could understand abandoning the ship, but, you should learn something from new fresh teams by now,

3) Still there was room to start doing this kind of fixing, and

4) That Lopez money (if everything else is true) would be relevant to save Campos.

But, there are a couple of hints that suddenly come to light:

1) Stefan made arrengements for first four races, Ecclestone, knowing that a fall from at least one team or the other would fail must have gave them the nod.

2) Maybe there's the reason for Campos not even giving a hint on a second driver (hard to believe, but, Conspiracy theorist! Stand Up, The victim now is the Victimary!!!)

Well, fuel enough to keep the flame over the thread at least.

I agree that Hurley jumping ship to Campos would be odd. Could see him moving to Virgin or Force India, not going, as Popi says, "from one sinking ship to another".

It just sounds way too convenient, that someone would create a sort of USF-Dallara, ran by Campos, sponsored by a Silicon Valley millionaire and raced by two inexperienced drivers from rival nations in South America. It's all kinda odd.

I'm not from Germany but from Austria, but since we speak the same language and I read motorsport-total.de regularly I feel like I might still answer this: Usually, this is a solidly reliable news site with a relatively low miss-rate (although they have missed spectacularly a few times). For instance, they were among the first to report on the formation of the USF1 team last spring.
On the matter of the USF1 and Campos' financial problems they have published a lot of stories that consisted of specualtion that seemed to originate on their site - some of which turned out to be true, however other parts of these stories have not yet been confirmed or turned out to be false. In short: they seem to have some rather reliable sources (especially concerning Dallara) but these sources are probably not able or willing to tell them the whole story. So while I would suspect there to be more than just a kernel of truth in most of what they report, I would be very careful not to take everything they write at face value.
