Congratulations to Juan Pablo Montoya for winning the Watkins Glen round of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. He destroyed the rest of the field, owning up to the nickname that Youtube NASCAR pundit Brock Beard gave him -- The Destroya', Juan Pablo Montoya. Nobody could touch him, except when Ambrose pushed really hard to keep up with him on a restart, but the thing was that JPM was saving his tires and his car for later in the race, and oh boy did it show.

It was a fantastic race though, except the track marshalling was... oh right, NONEXISTANT.

Also, congratulations to Marcos Ambrose for winning the Nationwide Series Watkins Glen round for the third straight year -- not bad at all.

I think it's the first time ever in NASCAR that drivers of three different nationalities won the top three races of the weekend. JPM won the Cup race, Ambrose the Nationwide race, and New York's Todd Bodine won the truck race at Nashville.

Isnt this his first win for about three years or something?

You could've just said 'yes' Mr Baker. I had to fire up the calculator (Its Monday!).

I couldn't be bothered to work out whether it was just under or just over three years. It was easier to copy and paste. Now I've calculated it. It's 3.12 years.

I predict a lucky win for his team-mate

Thankfully for everyone else he was in a one car team.
This is a cool spot.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series Duck And Cover Madness 200 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve finished with two former F1 drivers on the podium!... and the winner is the son of a former F1 driver!

Boris Said in first, driving for the minnow RAB Racing team...
Max Papis taking second place, losing the race by a margin you'd only see on a superspeedway...
Jacques Villeneuve was third, making the hometown crowd go wild.

I was pulling for former CART driver Robby Gordon to win the race but despite an AWESOME drive from the back to the front, he ran out of fuel with two laps to go while in second place. Robby Gordon is quickly becoming NASCAR's version of Arturo Merzario.

In a weekend rich in great racing moments almost everywhere you looked (GP2, F1, IRL), the finish to the Nationwide race must have been the best. If you haven't seen it yet, look it up on Youtube. Great!

Edit: Or even better - don't look it up. Just click here!

I absolutely love watching Nationwide races on the road courses. Because of the inexperience and the go-for-broke nature of minor league sports in general, the races tend to have far more action. (Also, they're eminently more watchable because of the shorter distances and race times.)

After the race got through the initial caution periods and the field stretched out enough for there to be green-flag pit stops, the race really blossomed. The dramatic ending during the green-white-checkered finish was also outstanding.

After that hilariously rejectful rain race a year or two ago, this description could not be more accurate. They really ought to hose the track down every year to guarantee the carnage and excitement.

They didn't even need to for excitement to occur this year.
