He would get slapped so badly if he were to race in DTM, it would make his current F1 effort look like HWNSNBM himself came down from the heavens.

For those who don't understand German: Heidfeld plans on suing Renault. You'd think they've learnt their lesson after the story of Andy Soucek.

Oh dear. But surely, even if he gets back the seat, surely Group Bahar won't be too kind towards his car setup. I'm thinking slightly above Perry McCarthy level...

Yes... not entirely unexpected, was it?

Bruno Senna is setting himself a realistic target for his debut with Renault at the Belgian Grand Prix. "If I can be near (team-mate Vitaly) Petrov, that would be a good reference."

I've got a target for you, Bruno: unrejectification. How hard can it be? Your famous uncle managed it in a Toleman.

To be fair, it seems that he doesn't bear any grudge against Bruno Senna, but more against the senior management of the team, who his legal advisors are accusing of breach of contract. Here's what he had to say to the Radio Five live team:
German driver Nick Heidfeld, dropped for this race by Renault, tells BBC 5 live: "I cannot be very specific as something is pending. It's disappointing not to be here as a race driver but that is the situation at the moment and I have to live with that. If we would not be confident that we have a case here, we wouldn't follow it up and yes, I believe this is the situation. I have a good feeling inside the team. People like me. I've worked with the team for over a year and always enjoyed working with them."

However, according to the English speaking press at least, his lawyers are less amicable - and seem fairly confident that Heidfeld will be back in the cockpit by Singapore
"I am disappointed that the team is allowed to let another driver take Nick's seat for the next weekends," said Theuerzeit. "However, I certainly am confident that we will be able to enforce a fair solution for Nick in the further proceedings.

"We all hope that Nick will be back in the cockpit in Singapore."

If he is to do that, he'll need to get a hurry on, it seems - if Heidfeld is successful, it looks like Bruno might only have two attempts (here and in Monza) if he manages to reclaim his seat.

That's kind of my point - why would Renault have "learned their lesson" after the Soucek episode when they had nothing to do with it? If anything, they were still caught up in the controversy following the Singapore scandal and were dealing with that rather than paying attention to the antics of a wannabe GP2 starlet.

The "they" was supposed to be the drivers. You don't sue your former team, no, you don't do that.

There is also the symbolism of a black and gold (Lotus) Renault...

I'm delighted to see Bruno performing so well, the Senna name back at the sharp end of F1 is actually quite a poignent moment for me. I wish him well in the race tomorrow - 20 years ago another young hopeful lined up 7th at Spa...

Well, if he was to follow in the footsteps of that historical figure, then that should mean that he'll retire on the opening lap with a self inflicted mechanical failure.

That's why I did not say I don't want him to finish the race, because that would drive the symbolism right up the tree. Now a meaningless finish would be a lot more punishing.

I find it more funny to see that for 25 years ago, Ayrton Senna drove for Toleman, and ended up on 7th in the race (before the DSQ of Tyrrel). And now, 25 years later, in the "same" team. Bruno qualifyes where Ayrton ended.

I know it's not the same track, but it was the Belgian GP!

ARgh, screw that. I clearly lack mathematical knowledge. It is 27 years ago Ayrton raced for Toleman...

Now that they have such a hugeload of racers, why wont they follow bull's example and make a Renault-Lotus second team, say, Lenault-Rotus? In this case, Either Senna, Grosjean, Petrov and Kubica could get a seat. Ah, no, it's not a solution. I forgot Heidfeld.

Yes, Schumacher also braked too late for La Source and blocked his tyres. But he managed to avoid screwing up anyone else's race.

Is it just me or do the Tyrrells in the midfield have one of the strangest airbox designs in recent times?

If you mean the Brabhams, then yes... and no. Because, strange though it was, there were similar designs - Williams (1990) and Jordan (1997-98). I'd say it was the oval airbox combined with the bizarre rounded-and-pointy nose shape that made the BT60Y one of the oddest-looking cars of the era.

So he's got enough races to unrejectify himself now, although it'll be a tough order. He needs a reliable, clean race at Monza, get some decent mileage under him.

I can imagine there will be a big reception for him at Brazil!!

You can count on it. I'd love to see your face when Petrov loses that seat and ends up in a Virgin for the rest of his career when Lotus needs more money that he can't deliver.

Kidding of course, wishing Vitaly all the best, and maybe he'll win the Russian GP in 2013.
