Proof that NASCAR rejects are incredibly awesome even when they're not making Deletraz look fast.

A sad story for the family involved, but nice to see justice come as a result of NASCAR's involvement.

he went to the pits because he was feeling a vibration every time he changed gears. they checked and found nothing wrong. during the caution period, he was driving at full chat around the track to catch up to the field and not lose another lap. while entering turn 3, his car shuttered and his rear differential failed catastrophically, causing him to spin to the right and into the Jet Dryer truck. the truck exploded, and JPM went tumbling back down the banking on fire.
the Jet Dryer was leaking Kerosene and something sparked and it burst into flames. took about 10 minutes to put it out.
Autosport are reporting that Montoya's crash was due to one of the trailing arms on his rear suspension collapsed - incidentally, Jamie McMurray's handling problems are now being pinned on a punctured rear tyre, so the problems are not, as Jamie first thought, related.

Fun that the organisers are encouraging - they have not only said that they will not take any action against Keselowski for what could be considered to be dangerous driving, they have said that they encourage their drivers to use social media tools provided that they still drive safely.
"NASCAR will not penalise Brad Keselowski for his use of Twitter during last night's Daytona 500," NASCAR said in a statement. "Nothing we've seen from Brad that violates any current rules pertaining to the use of social media during races. As such, he won't be penalised.
"We encourage our drivers to use social media to express themselves as long as they do so without risking their safety or that of others."

If someone just reads mario's post, you get the feeling that probably while he was drafting behind someone and three wide, he was also tweeting and interacting with fans. Keyboard and wireless connection in the steering wheel, now!

A slow and painful death. The Dodges in the Cup series only look fast because they've had some of the best drivers (Keselowski, Kurt Busch). I wonder if RPM will try to get out of Roush Fenway B-Team status and become the lead Dodge team... the King does love his Chrysler products...

Back when Toyota moved up to the Cup (2007?) there were rumours that Honda would follow suit, around that time they launched a new pickup that would have been perfect for the Truck series (Toyota spent a couple of years in Trucks before they moved to the cup). Nothing ever came of it, but with fuel injection NASCAR is now looking a bit more road relevent, so you never know.
The only other "manufacturer" I can think of is Lotus, since they seem to be entering literally everything else these days.

VW or Honda is my guess.
Not sure if this can be posted or not, but here's a retro NASCAR Nationwide Series race:

Just been reading a week-old Autosport, and in the Daytona Nationwide results, I noticed a driver called Timmy Hill in a Ford Mustang (he came 7th). Is he any relation to Phil Hill by any chance? (This is much more likely in my opinion than being related to the British Hills of Graham, Damon, Josh, et al.)

No, Phil Hill would be embarassed to be associated with the Giovanni Lavaggi of NASCAR.

Timmy Hill doesn't look that spectactular, but I wouldn't go that far; it's not like he's the next John Wes Townley or anything.

Timmy Hill is a joke. A funny one at that... he went from legends cars to the Nationwide Series in 1 year, and somehow has a fanbase!

Brian Vickers is back for Bristol in Michael Waltrip's #55 car. He'll run both Bristol, Martinsville, and New Hampshire events, meaning he'll race on the perfect tracks for revenge crashes. Frankly, NASCAR needs Vickers because he is clearly willing to cause chaos if someone races him too hard... he's actually not a terrible driver, but the concept of anger management is foreign to him sometimes (unlike a certain pair of brothers...).
Vickers and Waltrip are a marriage made in heaven, the only difference is that Vickers crashes into people on purpose and Waltrip just wrecks because he's a talentless hack that had a 25 year long career because his brother was one of the top 15 NASCAR drivers of all time...

The concept of common sense is foreign to Vickers, proof being his GQ interview when he bragged about partying like a rock star, banging tons of women, and ignoring doctors orders (this after he had very severe blood clots), and it was no small wonder teams stayed away after RBR folded. It will be entertaining to see him get slightly tapped, then wreck a dozen cars to get to the offender, only to wreck himself when he gets there. And then say post race "We had a great day today".
Like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRBw2kFt42Y when no less than eight drivers call him out.....

For weeks now I've been thinking about Hyundai entering NASCAR. I might make this happen in my fantasy racing universe, so it would be a funny coincidence if it happened in real life. The only problem is, they don't seem to build pickup trucks that I know of...

They had a prototype (take a RAM 1500, shrink it to Dakota size, cross out the RAM logo and draw an "H" in crayon) but it was never built.

The 55 car is full-time. Martin runs most of the races, but Vickers takes the short ovals and Waltrip the super speedways.

Update add Vickers to the road courses, despite my hopes for Monteiro to do at least Infineon for when the WTCC races there later in the year.

That's what I meant...the #55 car runs part-time drivers...I didn't realise Waltrip was doing all of the Superspeedways though, I figured he was only doing Daytona.
