Just goes to show he's a mature head on young shoulders with a superb reliability record like that :D

Chilton has the disadvantage of having a car that could explode with a 1990s-style engine failure as well.

Exactly. He knows when he can push and when he needs to go into mechanical preservation mode, unlike Bianchi who just ran on full pace the whole time and blew his engine.

Max Chilton insists his focus has to remain solely on delivering consistent performances in his debut Formula 1 season if he is to secure his long-term future in the sport.
The 22-year-old Marussia rookie goes into his debut home race having made an encouraging start to his career at the top level with the Briton one of only five drivers in the field to boast a 100% finishing record after the opening seven rounds.

And while he has yet to finish a race ahead of his highly-regarded French team-mate Jules Bianchi when both drivers have finished, Chilton claimed a strong 14th in Monaco last month and has generally been steadily closing the gap to his fellow rookie since the start of the season.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports Online, Chilton said he was thoroughly enjoying life at motorsport's top table and that it was important he was showing his Marussia bosses that he was making consistent progress.

"It's brilliant," he told Anna Woolhouse, when asked about how he was finding his maiden F1 campaign.

"I'm a rookie and you're constantly learning but the main thing is that you use what you've learnt from the previous race into the next race and keep developing. You've got to perform well and I want to have a long career in Formula 1 and for that to happen I've got to keep getting results.

"It was great to get the 14th for Monaco because it showed what I can do and the team were really happy with it."

Chilton says for him it is still too early to focus about what might happen next year and it is imperative he keeps focused on performing on track.
"There's so much going on, the main thing I can do is just do the best job I can in every race and just prepare for the next race as well as I can," he said.

"Obviously the year does go round pretty quick and you've got to have yourself kind of settled for the next year, but I'm not really thinking about that yet. It is really too early this year and I've got to get more results under my belt to be thinking about the future."

An achievement that would likely aid Chilton's nascent attempts to establish himself as a permanent fixture on the grid would be to become the driver who finally breaks Marussia's points duck after three-and-a-half seasons in F1.

Asked about the likelihood of doing that on home soil this weekend, an upbeat Chilton replied: "The chances here are pretty good because of the weather. For us I think we need a bit of mix in weather to have the luck to get the job done.

"Obviously races like Monaco and Singapore, which are street circuits, there's more attrition and cars can crash out more. But at Silverstone we've got a good chance and I think our car's getting quick enough now that we don't always need the luck on our side to get the job done, we just need everything to run smoothly and I'd love to grab that first point for Marussia."

Irrespective of both the weather and Marussia's competitiveness around the fast-flowing Northamptonshire circuit, Chilton admits he is just thrilled to be a part of the occasion.

"It was a fantastic moment getting into Formula 1 and having my first race in Australia but every driver wants to race at their home grand prix and Silverstone's very special one because it's a big venue, we get over 100,000 people in the weekend come and spectate, so hopefully I can do the British fans proud and get the job done," he said.

"I've driven Silverstone for plenty of years but they had a big revamp three years ago and changed the circuit and it's now bigger and has more overtaking which is really good for the spectators to watch because there's more grandstands. So for everyone it's a win-win.

"I've driven the circuit for the last three years and now I'm going into my first Formula 1 race, so it's good to know the circuit."

Max Chilton is doing every bit as good a job as Lucas di Grassi, Jerome d'Ambrosio and Charles Pic. To be able to match such luminaries should be appreciated as a big achievement, yes yes.

Max Chilton, Marussia
“Hungary holds many special memories for me as the track where I achieved my first race win in GP2 last season, so I’m really excited to be heading back there. I love everything about Budapest - the track, the weather, the people and the city. It is always hot and sunny at the Hungaroring and it’s just a circuit I really enjoy which seems to suit me. As ever, the objective is to have the best build-up possible then raise our game a little in qualifying before hopefully enjoying a good race to finish ahead of our immediate competitors. It would be nice to send the Team off for the summer break with a positive result in hand.”

Some people are saying that Chilton is too slow around the Hungaroring at the moment. But look at it this way, our boy Max got himself some track time today, something that his team mate failed to do. On this basis, young Max is an eager developer of the car, which means any improvements that Marussia gain from now on can be traced back to him, and not Bianchi, who couldn't be bothered to take to the track. ;)

Absolutely, even if he won the AYA award. However, you have to consider that Chilton knows the track from GP2 almost as well as Bianchi.

A solid qualifying effort yesterday from Chilton, he ended up a strong and competitive 22nd on the grid for todays race.
I'm proud of you, Max. Soak it all up, 'cause it don't get much better than this.

Post-qualifying, Hungary

My objective has been to try to improve on my qualifying pace and it is nice to see all the hard work paying off there.

Max drove a mature, brilliant and solid race today, in my opinion.
Finished only seven places off a points scoring position, he's getting closer and closer, no doubt.

Looking at the results, he even managed to somehow lap the talented Paul di Resta!
And he posted the 19th fastest lap of the race!

A friend of my brothers has a colleague who's daughter was traveling through Surrey earlier today,
and while she was walking down a street about 5 miles West of Surrey, in Guildford (I think it was Quarry Street, could be wrong though) a mere hour ago,
she took this photo of some happy teens who celebrated Chilton's 17th place in todays race by cooling themselves off in the town fountain.
my brother just e-mailed it to me:

Image

She stopped to watch them for a moment, and in the midst of all their joyfulness, they also sang some homemade, by-the-seat-of-their-pants, on-the-fly songs about good ole Maxi-boy.
She wrote down one of them before she was on her way:

What will we do with a drunken driver,
What will we do with a drunken driver,
What will we do with a drunken driver,
Earl-eye in the morning!

Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Earl-eye in the morning!

Shave his front-wing with a rusty razor
Shave his front-wing with a rusty razor
Shave his front-wing with a rusty razor
Earl-eye in the morning!

Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Earl-eye in the morning!

Stick him in a Minardi with a hosepipe on him
Stick him in a Minardi with a hosepipe on him
Stick him in a Minardi with a hosepipe on him
Earl-eye in the morning!

Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Earl-eye in the morning!

Put him in the bed with the Team Boss daughter,
Put him in the bed with the Team Boss daughter,
Put him in the bed with the Team Boss daughter,
Earl-eye in the morning!

Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Earl-eye in the morning!

Put him the back of the paddy wagon,

Put him the back of the paddy wagon,
Earl-eye in the morning!

Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises

That's what we do with a drunken driver
That's what we do with a drunken driver
That's what we do with a drunken driver
Earl-eye in the morning!

Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Way hay and up he rises
Earl-eye in the morning!

And then one of them started rapping:

Cause you ain't drunk, Chilty!/ You ain't drunk, Chilty!/ 'Til that sizzurp and Henny is in your cup, Chilty!
You know me I turn them 40 bottles upside down/Like Chilty with dead homies till it's empty like my four pound/Chilty thinkin' I'm drunk/ Reach for my F.I.A chain and get your a$$ beat wit da pump."
"Stop talking about your boyfriend since he is not me/ Stop running up my tab cause these drinks is not free."

I tell you, strange things going on in Guildford tonight... :?

2013 Hungarian Grand Prix
Max Chilton Marussia F1 Team
+3 laps

Max:
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/ ... 14854.html
I am pleased with my relative race pace under the circumstances.

I am pleased also. Any other driver, not possessing the talent that Max has, would surely have finished 5 laps down.
So Max did very, very good.

And I feel encouraged for the rest of the season ahead, because here is what John Booth had to say post-race:

The next series of races coming up after the break will play to more of the strengths of our car

This, added in with the birth-given talent of Max Chilton, will most likely finally break the duck and give Marussia their first points.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, none at all.

Does this mean that we could see Max's breakthrough result in 3 weekends time?

Belgium preview quotes

Max Chilton, Marussia
2012 Qualifying - n/a, 2012 Race - n/a
“I can’t wait for Spa this weekend. The break has been a good opportunity to think about the first half of the season but it will be good to be back in the car again. I’m feeling very positive about what we need to do in the remaining nine races and I’m ready for the challenge. Although we haven’t been racing, the break has still been a busy time as I treated it a little like a ‘training camp’ and spent part of it on a pretty intensive physical programme. Having raced at Spa a few times now, I’m looking forward to my first experience of driving a Formula One car at what is a very special circuit. It’s a different challenge, with the exceptionally long lap and fantastic mix of long straights and high-speed corners and it certainly ranks high on my list of favourites.”

Things were looking promising for FP2 also but unfortunately we lost the last 30 minutes of the session because of a steering rack change. Practice 3:

22nd fastest lap time.
22nd in sector 1.
22nd in sector 2.
22nd in sector 3.
22nd through the speed trap.

Only Hulkenberg drove more laps than Max. This shows that Max is very humble, he doesn't want to embarrass another driver by outclassing him using his talent, so he just took it easy for so many laps in FP3, and merely observed his competitors while coasting.

Let us not forget that Max Chilton has never DNQd in his entire Formula 1 career, that is despite the 107% rule being reinstated. Many champions over the years have recorded at least 1 DNQ in their career. Damon Hill, Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell, Mika Hakkinen, Nelson Piquet and even Ayrton Senna.

After Q1, this has been proven to be true.
