On a slightly more on topic note, the organisers really need to shorten the track or the number of laps because most of this years race was really damn boring.

This entire issue in a nutshell.

DonTirri spends all his time complaining about people that spend too much complaining, then complains when people complain about his incessant complaining. I mean...geez! Just do us all a favour, make the point once and then move on to something else! I don't feel the need to tear into Raikkonen or Sutil after every single GP, even if their performances might merit criticism. It gets tiresome after a while and nobody wants to read it.

Let's remember kids, this is a forum, a two way system. If you harp on about the same thing time and time again, eventually people will get so tired of it they will start flinging their faeces at you until you shut up!

According to their twitter, the "foreign substance" caused a short circuit. Now, the only foreign substances that can create some sort of short circuit are liquid... This can lead to fairly interesting conspiracy theories.

I'm really glad I usually miss the Singapore GP due to my wedding anniversary as my favourite drivers usually do really badly. This year was especially great to miss as it was so dull. I watched it this afternoon and really, I could have fast forwarded after the first lap as it was blindingly obvious that the spoilt one would win.

So being mid-air on the way to the land of Tiago Monteiro and Pedro Lamy was definitely the right option. Especially as I've just had a great holiday!

I'm fairly sure that sufficient quantities of graphite or metal filings could cause a short circuit if the distance between the electrodes is small enough. Why they'd be present in the pits, I wouldn't know, but I don't think just liquids can cause short circuits.

As for the liquid and the short-circuit, it never happened until now for what I can tell so no wonder conspiracies will crop up. Although stuff like this can happen to everyone, it is a mighty coincidence that it happened to the team involved in a title battle between their own drivers.

Graphite sprays are commonly used as a lubricant in industrial applications, particularly for high temperature components, so I could see how graphite can be introduced into the system. Perhaps Mercedes might use a graphite spray as a lubricant for the steering column? It could also explain why it would not be immediately visible, since the residue left by the spray would probably not be immediately visible against a black or metallic grey background.

Whilst it is probably unlikely, it's worth noting that the original message by Mercedes does not explicitly state that the contaminant was actually a liquid - it's just that most observers seem to have assumed that it was a liquid which would cause those issues.

I did indeed! The weather was mostly great, and Porto is a wonderful place. I particularly enjoyed eating a Francesinha ('Heart attack on a plate' as the other half called it!) and tasting loads of port.

Amusingly enough, our guide on the port tasting tour used to go out with someone who was close friends with Tiago Monteiro. He told us that his antics on the podium at the US GP embarrassed the whole country, which I can understand. It was still amusing though.

I just Googled it, aand after reading about it on Wikipedia, it sounds a bit like a horseshoe/ponyshoe (native to central Illinois). Delicious, but definitely a heart attack on a plate as your other half put it!

EDIT: Well, maybe a bit more like a croque monsieur, but they all are bread, meat and a lovely sauce!

I can tell you that a Francesinha is really good. But don't eat a lot of them, or you'll end up getting really fat really quickly.
