Bernie won't bump the F1 Championship to start in January. MotoGP, WTCC, WRC, IRC and everything alongside and beyond is on hold as well. Except for the godawful Trophee Andros, there's pretty much no racing of motors around.

All we have to stop us from closing down shop and only return at the end of March is the odd game, the Rantbox and HWNSNBM. And that's why it's nicer around here than in the Autosport forums.

The contract we signed states that if the members don't get HWNSNBM in a thread by page 4, one of us has to. Or else, we don't get paid.

It can't be done. The market for papayas is in turmoil, as 'goblin's post shows. Same thing with the market for coconuts, especially after the Internet was invented to propagate "The Quest for the Holy Grail".

We're resorting to throwing watermelons gone bad for the time being.

Funny thing about that... Eastern Oregon, where I come from originally, is renown for its watermelons... they grow them in a desert. I don't know how. No clue or concept... but they're damn good.

Sort of. It probably won't surprise you to hear there's a lot of North Africans working there. I suppose they're as illegal as many South Americans in Oregon, and that their graft is just as hard, so the comparison probably sticks, just in a different sense.

I was quite relieved to see that at least the TV headline was not actually "Guy falling on snow". Looking at all this from Central Europe it is always a bit amusing to see how ill-equipped you are at dealing with mildly wintery weather...

Not exactly. However, there is a "weather alarm (TM)" for "heavy rain" (13.5 mm) in place ;)

And before you ask: No, it's not -20 here in Vienna, either. But at least we have some snow, too...

I'm from the other side of Oregon, where it doesn't rain much at all (~ 20 cm/year), but it gets really cold.

It's decidedly nice over there right now.

And, by the way, its only the English (mostly southerners) who take a panic attack at seeing a dusting of snow.
Collieafc will be the first to vouch that up here, especially in the Cairngorms, it snows like hell in Scotland, and gets frickin cold!
I was up there a few years ago, in June, and it was snowing.
If the English saw it snowing in summer there would probably be mass suicides thinking that some twisted form of armageddon was upon them.

Agreed. We get it every winter, we just shut up and get on with life. The ones who panic and cant cope are those in South East England, who abandon their cars en masse on a motorway at the first snowflake. Its a source of laughs, but also a little annoying as they seem to forget that we have it far worse (And where I am has had it bad, and it gets worse when you get inland, but are coping with it just fine)

Then again, Londoners and the South East are a bunch of attention seekers :P

I'm from London, just cos I'm from there doesn't necessarily make me:

a) Soft
b) A cockney
c) Frightened by bad weather
d) An attention seeker
e) A lover of Boris Johnson

The last time cars parked in a big road near me was when an Ikea opened in a place called Edmonton (which is a fairly impoverished area with high rates of gun/knife crime) and cars parked on a dual carriageway to get first to the midnight opening of this Ikea. There was a riot to get in and several people were injured.

Ikea seem to be drawn to poor areas - the one in Dublin is in Ballymun, which is the roughest place in the country (pretty much) - you'd think they'd avoid places like that.

Re the weather - we had it bad enough, but the country's so poorly equipped that school was called off for the first three days of this week. Now they've done a u-turn and we have it again. Still a complete joke. It ws at most 5 centimetres of snow and it seemed like the end of the world. Funny.

Anyway, I wonder how all this bad weather is affecting Ralf's push to get back in to F1?

I know they made one of the towers a hotel a while ago, why anyone would want to stay in it I've no idea.

Personally I have nothing to do with anything that's north of the Liffey. I'm a snob.

I think I need to stand for for south-eastern Englanders here. I am from Essex, on the Thames estuary, and therefore just to the east of London. On Saturday, I drive 15 miles to work for a 4-hour shift, then drive to the Wirral for a Wirral-Llandudno (n. Wales) for a Mini car run then spend an overnight stop in Dumfries, Scotland before now spending a week in the Lake District (at a Center Parcs with free wi-fi). Now who the soft southerner?

EDIT: Actually, according to the weekend forecast, I ought to be missing most of the worst weather - meant to be heavier snow down south at the moment. Can anyone confirm?
