(slow clapping) Bravo Sean Gelael, bravo. He's joined that elite tier of drivers who are total scrublords as of this afternoon, :pantano:

Gasly, what the hell was that? Dropped it on a kerb and let his car roll backwards into the pack. Really really stupid.

EDIT: Race cancelled, the barrier at turn 2 is ruined. Thanks Gasly...

See FIA. SEE! TECPRO IS JUST NOT BETTER THAN TIRE BARRIER. Not efficient in absorbing impact, took LOOOOOOOOOOONG time to replace, and GP2 sprint race cancelled after 2 laps. Briliant.

When you come up with a better solution, Axel, we'll consider your opinion.

Wut? I said tecpro is not better than tire barrier so tire barrier is better solution. Need to put like 5 layers of tires to be safe, and you can see from a lot of crashes that a properly installed tire barriers does not get chaotic when hit. Just a simple layer of the protection in front of those tires that needs replacements. Problem?

Yes, I have problem. For the reasons Wizzie just provided above, the tyre barrier is NOT a better solution. It's still dangerous and impact absorption is variable due to the positions of the tyres in the wall. The Tecpro might not be perfect, but nobody was hurt.

I could forgive you then for that, if we were simply discussing the tyres. But I know what you're like, and what your warped way of thinking does. I know that you're angry, not because people were at risk and the race ended, but actually because you saw Gelael in the wall yet again and it takes 3rd out of the reach of Haryanto. Pathetic.

Lol. You think I'm not happy because Haryanto losing a certain podium or what? No. It's just stupid to see a race cancelled because of this "better" barriers that took an eternity to be fixed. That would be embarassing if actually happened during F1 race, innit? Cool down mate. Those UPPER CASE is just hyperbolic. Then so I would recommend thicker SAFER barrier for certain areas of circuit, but as we know FIA doesn't like SAFER barrier.

Sean Gelael and Mitch Evans will took Campos GP2 seat for next year. While in post-season test day 1, Philo Paz Armand managed to get a seat with Status GP. Oh I'm still hoping someone actually notices Zahir Ali. He was at equivalent level with Haryanto. Ahhhhh :

Before someone moans again those emoticons is dramatif effect. No such crying actually happens. Just disappointment

You got a source for that?

Regardless, we've got another son-of-a-former-F1-driver on the map; Giuliano Alesi's testing for Arden in the GP3 tests. Will Palmer is testing for Arden as well.

Other notable names to take part in the first day of the post-season GP3 test are Charles Leclerc electing to test for ART, Jake Hughes and Jack Aitken sampling the Koiranen, Tatiana Calderon at Status and Steijn Schothorst getting back into single-seaters after a year out racing in the Renault Sport Trophy.

In the first GP2 test day, Ollie Rowland's driving the #5 ART, Ghiotto and Eriksson are looking to step up too, and will sample the Tridents, whilst Gasly and Wehrlein will be Prema's first runners at Abu Dhabi. F3 champion Felix Rosenqvist is having a go in the #23 Status.

Thank you, Axel. :)

Regardless, this seems like a bit of an odd move from Evans; surely he'd be able to find a WEC seat by now? Gelael, yeah, he's there because of the Los Pollos Hermanos money.

Not a surprise that Markelov's in line to stay at Russian Time, he's slowly developing into a great little racer and RT seem like the best environment for him to push that further. He needs to find something in qualifying though, if he's ever to get to the points on a more regular basis

I think he could have avoided publicly saying it, but I can understand why he has such a feeling. Yet I think both he and Ocon are great drivers, and I hope they both make it into Formula 1.

Well, he beat both of them in a Rapax last year; Sirotkin was just far more clinical than both of the DAMS drivers. Lynn and Evans should definitely be threats this year, but you'd have to put your money on Sirotkin.

And now we have Campos with Sean Gelael and Mitch Evans, Russian Time have Marciello ( no longer with the Ferrari Driver Academy) and Markelov, ART kept Matsushita and got Sirotkin , King is at Racing Engineering and Dams have Lynn and Latifi ....
So where's Gasly ( still with Red Bull I think) going? And I assume Rowland will go to Prema....

Rossi and Haryanto...if they dont get a F1 deal there's only one Racing Engineering seat left..and that may not be super-competitive ( they seem to have dropped off a little since Fabio left) ...or maybe Prema will do the job in their first year ( but seems unlikely given the need to 'understand' the tyres so much these days in order to be competitive).

The prime seats are nearly filled....
And I hope we get 26 cars on the grid - Hilmer failed to sell on their GP2 team, but maybe they'll be back this year. Hope so.
Testing in March...can't wait

Meanwhile GP2 - A Pic has secured a Rapax seat ..but it looks like the season wont start until Barcelona. ( they did Bahrain twice last year, and seem to be skipping it this year ) ...which is ages away....
And they may not go to Sochi - and thereby avoid the madness and financial cost of of Turn 1 lap 1 where there's run -off, bollards, varying interpretations of 'gaining an advantage' and no space... .

That livery (particularly the side of the nosecone) reminds me of some of A1GP's promotional material:

I originally thought it reminded me of their test car liveries, but that turned out to be just a single row of flags running along the top side of the nosecone, with a black airbox and white sidepods...

Not quite sure what happened with Ollie Rowland...I thought he might get a bigger team drive. After all he tested with the big names, but there was no seats left for him when the music stopped. Maybe de Jong will return to MP for another year....
Seats are filling up, but there's still a bit of room for my fave Sergio..hoping we get to see some more Sergio spectacular.

...which made me think a bit - and actually Gelael, Rowland and Latifi haven't done full seasons yet, but have had a few drives. Still it does seem that rookies don't get in to top teams easily these days , apart from those with Red Bull, McLaren, Honda etc links. If we assume these big boys are indeed identifying the best drivers then it sort of makes sense - they find the best drivers, put them in the best teams, and in a formula where small advantages decide whether you'll be 4th or 14th , this keeps those drivers at the top of the championship table at the end of the year. And to win GP2's title these days you are going to have had to adjust to those strange Pirellis, so its likely to take a year or two. So the teams will keep you on ( with your Red Bull / McLaren/Honda etc money) .Add in the lack of F1 seats, and you have a category where drivers will spend a few years ..
And its not a bad place to be - GP2 cars being only maybe 5 or 6 seconds a lap slower than F1 at some tracks in some years...
But it all adds up to make the 'charge-through-the -ranks' of GP2 more difficult- easier just to skip it if you can- isnt it Max?
