It's obvious Max has come back from the summer break more motivated than ever.

5 minutes to go and Max is currently outside 107% . :o

It was a wet qualifying, 107% doesn't apply in the wet.

Well I am just blown away right now. Shocked you could say.
This is Chilton's motivational curve as of today:
Image

He is so motivated, in fact, that he denies ex-WDC's a simple handshake. Stone cold determination we are witnessing right here, might be the most amazing snub I've ever witnessed.

See for yourselves, Max completely ignores shaking Damon Hill's hand post-qualifying today. He shakes that knob Lazenby's hand, and shakes that seven-podiums-in-twelve-seasons Herbert bloke, but he denies WDC Hill!

http://youtu.be/UIXA8RibujM

Watch Damon, he prepares himself to shake Chilton's hand, he's about to switch his holding of the microphone, in order to free his right hand.
But when Damon realises that Chilton won't extend his talented hand towards him, he quickly changes his grip on the mic back to the righty, and acts unfazed.

This probably went unnoticed for 99% of the viewers, but not in my house.

Reminded me so much of Rocky III, when Apollo goes over to Clubber Lang's corner to shake his hand and Clubber denies him saying
I don't need no has-been messing in my corner

Qualifying - selected team and driver quotes - Spa - 24 Aug 2013
Max Chilton (16th, Q2 - 1m 52.762s)
"The engineers put the decision in my hands and I was undecided until the final corner, when I just made a judgment call in an instant and opted to stay out."

does this remind anyone of anything? A certain 7-time WDC?

After scoring his very first F1 race win in 1992, at Spa-Francorchamps no less!, Michael was quoted strikingly similar to Max Chilton.
Michael went off the circuit on lap 30, allowing team-mate Brundle through.
As Martin passed, Michael noticed that his (Brundle's) rear tyres were blistered, and decided to pit for slicks.
By lap 34, with the important stops done, Schumacher led Mansell by six seconds, which widened when Mansell had electronic woes.
Michael Schumacher:
"The moment I noticed that Martin's tyres looked bad I made the pitstop. It turned out to be the 'golden moment' lap -
a nice, nice feeling."

So Michael changed tyres at the exact right moment, proof that even though he was inexperienced, he never missed a trick.
I would like to go on record and say that Chilton is made from the same mold. He is as capable as MSC was, to be able to think on his feet,
make split-second decisions and possess lightning-bolt reactions.

Will we see history repeat itself today? From 1992 to 2013. Max Chilton for the win? With Bianchi blistering his tyres on lap 30,
and Hamilton suffering electronic woes.

What you are saying Jocke1 is undoubtedly true. I think it is no coincidence that Ferrari are going to be involved with Marussia next season. Ferrari came to Marussia, not the other way round, don't be fooled. They want to build a solid relationship with Marussia so that Chilton can be groomed for the Ferrari #1 driver seat in 2015. Jules Bianchi is just a clever foil, everyone is thinking he is the real deal whilst Ferrari are the only team that know Chilton's true potential. They'll then build the team around Max and we'll see him win world title after world title. Vettel doesn't stand a chance.

This whole deal with Max receiving a drive-through penalty, for ignoring blue flags in todays race, BS!!
I believe it was Derek Warwick and Lars Osterlind who "performed" as the Stewards for this race? Come on, you old farts.
Can't you understand that Max was way to busy to care about some silly blue flags being waved at him?
That's like kindergarten stuff.

No, Max was well pre-occupied in his cockpit with much more important issues, he was going through complex analysis, traditionally known as the theory of functions of a complex variable, the kind of branch of mathematical analysis that investigates functions of complex numbers. It is useful in many branches of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, number theory, applied mathematics; as well as in physics, including hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering.

Now, isn't this much more important than some blue flags? And he gets penalised for it?
With all the travel and PR commitments he has to constantly endure, when is he supposed to do it?
A good answer to that?
His cockpit is the perfect place! No one to bother him in the least. Well, except for some petty race stewards, that is. Pathetic. :(

Keep at it, Max. You're a star in the making. A diamond in the rough.

What no-one seems to have recognised is that MaxiAttack can still mathematically win this year's championship. There are eight races left, implying a maximum of 200 points can be scored from now until the end of the season. The leader Vettel currently sits on 197 points, 197 ahead of ChiltonCraze. It can be done. But, showing his modesty and not wanting to embarrass the rest of the field by winning the title during his debut season, Chilton drives at the back to make it a fair fight. ;)

I think you Chiltonites will be happy to know that Max might be around next year because his Dad has apparently invested lots of Cash into Marussia. You can thank Max and his Dad for Keeping Marussia going because i don't want them to fold.

Begrudingly Max's onboard camera is the best on the grid

A decade and two years into the 21st century, Max Chilton has become the largest commercial
F1 driver on the grid.
Nine out of every ten homes contain his products (caps, shirts, models, signed photos).
His daddy's political and financial influence is felt
everywhere.
In public, Chilton is F1's leading
supplier of fan interest, media interest
and grid girls interest.
Unknown even to John Booth, Chilton's dad's massive
profits are generated by: Military Technology,
Genetic Experimentation and Viral Weaponry.

Practice 1:
11th fastest through the speed trap: 334.4 km/h

Practice 2:
13th fastest through the speed trap: 333.2 km/h

Max is seriously commited and fast this weekend, and I predict lots of overtaking maneuvers by him come Sunday.

Practice 3:
Faster than Rosberg by 0.157 sec!

Qualifying:
Max was the very first driver to go past the speed trap during Qualifying, at 14:05:11 pm.
And only three drivers could beat him for the rest of the session!!
Max ended up 4th fastest through the speed trap, with 338.6 km/h. :o

Max Chilton (22nd, Q1 - 1m 27.480s)
“After such a positive start yesterday, I was hoping for a better result today, so it’s a little disappointing and frustrating to have fallen back a bit. I do take some comfort though in the fact that much of that can be attributed to a fuelling issue, which we only discovered at the end of qualifying. 19.5kgs will have made all the difference today and it is easy to do the maths and gauge the impact that has had relative to the cars directly ahead on the grid tomorrow. So I will take some encouragement from that and the fact that our race pace yesterday did look slightly more promising. We will have our work cut out tomorrow for sure, given where we are now starting, but we will do everything possible to recover some ground.”

Max is right, without that damn fuelling issue he could have easily been 21st.

And stuck close to Bianchi, but that is only physically. Mentally, he finished ahead of Bianchi. He revolved around Bianchi. That is the true mark of a future champion.

He won't be champion this year; he is now out contention mathematically. At least his fastest lap was better than that of Bianchi...

He's shown enough pace this year that he's basically a lock for the second Ferrari seat, so his financial status doesn't really matter.
