Don't know all of them but I'll have a go at some:

1. Nobody was actually in the correct place (Fisi and Kimi should have been the other way round, and Alonso was in the medical centre)

One of those South African Grand Prix's took place on 2nd January I think. I mostly know this because 2nd January is my birthday

Were those South African races the final race of the previous season?

Not sure exactly, but almost everyone spun off, causing the race to be red-flagged. Was the result taken from one lap before it was stopped (with all succeeding stoppage results taken from two laps previously)?

Puddlefooti was the winner, but I don't think he was one of those who crashed. 2nd, 3rd & 4th all had though.
I think it was Emmo's last GP win so that hasn't happened since either.

Number 7 must be someone who didn't race full time as I've thought of other drivers who took a long time to win their first race such as Button, Hakkinen, Webber, Barrichello, Alesi, Trulli, Fisichella etc and I don't think it's any of them. Is it one of the Indy 500 winners (one of the later ones)?

Number 9 - is it something to do with Teo Fabi being on pole? A polesitter who didn't score points during that season?

Ferrari were possibly the first to test a sequential gearbox but I think that was 1978 not '68.

Ironically, you wer quite a bit closer with the wings than you realised, since they were indeed inspired by a device being used in sports car racing at the time - with wings becoming more important, Ferrari, naturally, wanted to catch up and surpass Lotus in that field. At the same time, they were also aware of the efforts of Jim Hall and his work in sports car racing - specifically, with the mechanically adjustable rear wing that he had designed.
So, back in 1968, it is reported that Ferrari were working on an electronically controlled adjustable rear wing, which could be flattened on the straights for lower drag, and raised again under braking for the corners - however, work was abandoned after the regulations were changed so the wings had to be rigidly fixed to the bodywork.

Q4 - I think it's Lotus and the question is about boat race at Montreal.

Wild guess time. Was it when Raikkonen crashed out on the final lap of Nurburgring in 2005? Handing the win to title rival Alonso? I think it was 2005, but you'll know what race I'm on about. He had bad vibrations on his left front and it collapsed at turn 1.

I'll have another go knowing it's 2005 - Raikkonen breaking down at Hockenheim, it was a double-whammy at it handed Alonso the win due to Montoya crashing on his qualifying lap.

No but it was during Qualifying. It's getting to the point where it's fairly straightforward now

No but it was during Qualifying. It's getting to the point where it's fairly straightforward now

4 was correct-it was the Montreal raft race and having been convinced Williams' model was cheating somehow,Mike Gascogne and his team got hold of it and sank it!

And here's a bonus one. Gabriele Tarquini qualified for the 1992 Brazilian Grand Prix,but had to overcome a rather unusual obstacle in the qualifying session. What was it?

2.Which was the first Formula One race to start behind a pace car?

Number 2 may be a tough one. The 1994 Pacific GP was actually started behind the pace car, but it wasn't a proper start but the formation lap, ie. the formation lap was done behind the SC, but it pulled in at the end of the lap and the start was a normal, standing start. As some of you will know, Ayrton Senna was highly critical of this, because the SC was very slow, and he thought it was unsafe because the drivers couldn't bring the tyres to temperature at those speeds. He brought the matter to the drivers' briefing at the fateful San Marino GP, and this time the formation lap was performed as usual, with the poleman leading the pack. But the pace car was brought out by the incident at the start of the race and so a similar problem happened (the recent Senna film has a scene where he's seen gesticulating at the pace car, urging him to go faster). The practice of starting a race behind the SC was completely abandoned after low tyre temperature was pressumed to have been a factor in Senna's accident, although it was reintroduced a few years later in rainy races.

All of this only to say that I don't think this is the answer you're looking for...

What if Valentino Rossi made the jump from MotoGP to Formula 1 at the end of 2006? Schumacher himself said after a pre-season test at Valencia that Rossi was capable of making the jump to F1 and being competitive immediately.
