If they are frozen then a really weak engine dooms the teams who use it to oblivion from the second race...

That could kick off a few in-year inter-team moves depending on how smart the performance clauses are.

Development on engines will be allowed next year, and probably the next few years after that, and then they'll freeze them. Well, that's the most likely scenario anyway.

The rumour is that development will be tapered off - 2014 would be reasonably free, but from 2015 onwards tighter restrictions come in until, in 2018, we are more or less back to where we are now (i.e. where only ancillaries and small components, like intake valves, can be developed under tight restrictions).

Remember when last year Hamilton announced the move to Mercedes? Despite many of us thinking it will be a bad move for him, it turned out to be good as McLaren went for a 1980-ish disaster, and Merc had a decent year.

In fact, that move has allowed him to continue his strike of winning at least one race every season. That's something no one else in the current field can say (although, if we don't count half seasons, then Vettel would also qualify for it).

I have no Fish to contribute to the confusion of the youngsters who might be reading this thread wondering what all the Marillion jokes are about. I can imagine their brains dissolving like sugar mice in the rain. I'll just... let myself trout.

So, I'm guessing it's nothing to do with Marill, then?

Apparently the Sahara group has bought more shares in the Force India team and that brings some much needed liquid funds. Good for Hülkenberg to secure a seat, even though it was more or less obvious he would be on the grid. At the end of the day, the Force India car, with McLaren technology and Merc engines, might prove to be a better package than the Allison-less Lotus, not to talk about the unstable situation at Lotus as a whole.

The second seat should go to someone who can actually drive and someone who can test Hülkenberg, I'd choose Perez but I am afraid they might go with Sutil. Hülkenberg doesn't have anything to gain from being partnered with Sutil - except for maybe a clearer no. 1 status within the team - because if Nico beats Sutil, it is expected and so on. I want to see Perez vs. Hülkenberg.

But maybe Perez rather wants no. 1 status at Sauber?

I'm kinda hoping the Force keep Sutil, Perez goes to Sauber and due to that they no longer need Gutierrez for their Telmex funding, so bring Kobayashi back instead. I can but hope. :)

I'm a bit mixed over Korea on one hand i love the track especially that last sector but on the other the atmosphere is completely soulless. Plus it's usually prone to strange events like the astroturf and the Fire Truck

So what happened to the mythical 20 Grand Prix a season? It appears we'll have another 19-race season.

With no Mexico and especially no NJ (Thank God) Austin will have another year to grow. This is only good news for us in the USA.

Abu Dhabi season closer?? Argghh

Now Interlagos would be another chaos race, while Abu Dhabi is duller than 2009 Valencia

I guess I'm way too pesimistic ? :S

Why not USGP alternate between NJ and COTA? Or even Road America. Or....OVAL ?

Gonna miss Korean GP :|

I suppose that he would count as an experienced driver, but it isn't as if there is a shortage of experienced drivers on the market.

Caterham already had one experienced under contract in the form of their test driver, Kovalainen, and if anything it would make more sense to put him back in the seat than Kobayashi given that Kovalainen already has a strong working relationship and prior experience with the team, not to mention more experience in total (nearly twice as many race starts (111) than Kobayashi (60)). I think that it is more likely to be Heikki rather than Kamui who'd get the seat in that instance given those factors...

Looking at the 2014 calendar changes, the FIA have done good on that. New Jersey was never going to make it,Mexico came out of the blue and Korea was thankfully dumped.

However...I'll miss Korea. Probably because Yeongam was a track that was simply...rejectful. The layout was unimaginative, the marshaling was weak, the plans surrounding the track never got past construction, making the atmosphere surrounding it duller than a calculator. Hell, even the AstroTurf was rejectful. But I liked it for that, being the most rejectful race on the calendar. And, on a site like F1 Rejects,we like those wacky moments.

And,for that,I'll miss Korea.

Hmm? The avatar file size restriction was bumped up quite some time ago and is now 14.65 KiB, and the resize I made should fit well within that limit.

I honestly predict that Maldonado will match Grosjean in a couple of races and be nowhere near him for the rest. And that he will act like a tool while doing so.

Nice he has ambitions and a willingness to for a challenge. Force India have yet to announce their second driver but the feeling around the paddock is that it will be Checo. Strong driver line up, even stronger than the di Resta-Hulkenberg line up of 2012. How do we think that FI will do next year?
