Spanish GP 2014
Code: Select all
1. Lewis Hamilton 25 x 44 = 1100
5. Valtteri Bottas 10 x 77 = 770
6. Fernando Alonso 8 x 14 = 112
2. Nico Rosberg 18 x 6 = 108
3. Daniel Ricciardo 15 x 3 = 45
7. Kimi Raikkonen 6 x 7 = 42
8. Romain Grosjean 4 x 8 = 32
10. Nico Hulkenberg 1 x 27 = 27
9. Sergio Perez 2 x 11 = 22
4. Sebastian Vettel 12 x 1 = 12
Surprised that Daniel ended up that high. Hamilton and Bottas = inevitable. C'mon Valterri, you need to be getting some podiums. Gah!
Drivers' Championship
Code: Select all
1. Lewis Hamilton 100 x 44 = 4400
7. Valtteri Bottas 34 x 77 = 2618
6. Nico Hulkenberg 37 x 27 = 999
3. Fernando Alonso 49 x 14 = 686
2. Nico Rosberg 97 x 6 = 582
8. Jenson Button 23 x 22 = 506
9. Kevin Magnussen 20 x 20 = 400
12. Felipe Massa 12 x 19 = 228
10. Sergio Perez 20 x 11 = 220
11. Kimi Raikkonen 17 x 7 = 119
Code: Select all
5. Daniel Ricciardo 39 x 3 = 117
14. Jean-Eric Vergne 4 x 25 = 100
15. Daniil Kvyat 4 x 26 = 104
4. Sebastian Vettel 45 x 1 = 45
13. Romain Grosjean 4 x 8 = 32
A tight battle between Raikkonen and Ricciardo, plus between Vergne and Kvyat. Makes up for the deficit in competitiveness between Hamilton and Bottas. Maybe it may have seemed better if Sutil were scoring decent points?

And I work out the Constructors' some other time - gotta go and eat then off to a church group for this evening!

Re: Car numbers alternative championship
Anyway, as promised, the current Constructors' Championship:
Code: Select all
Mercedes 4400 + 582 = 4982
Williams 2618 + 228 = 2846
Force India 999 + 220 = 1219
McLaren 506 + 400 = 906
Ferrari 686 + 119 = 805
Toro Rosso 104 + 100 = 204
Red Bull 117 + 45 = 162
Lotus 32 + 0 = 32
Williams in second!
Force India in third!
McLaren ahead of Ferrari!
Toro Rosso ahead of Red Bull!
Lotus scores!

2014 Grand Prix de Monaco
Code: Select all
2. Lewis Hamilton 18 x 44 = 792
5. Nico Hulkenberg 10 x 27 = 270
6. Jenson Button 8 x 22 = 176
4. Fernando Alonso 12 x 14 = 168
1. Nico Rosberg 25 x 6 = 150
7. Felipe Massa 6 x 19 = 114
3. Daniel Ricciardo 15 x 3 = 45
9. Jules Bianchi 2 x 17 = 34
8. Romain Grosjean 4 x 8 = 32
10. Kevin Magnussen 1 x 20 = 20
Jules Bianchi is back into 8th place here, just as he was "on the road." Another massive points haul for Mr Hamilton. And Jenson on the podium!
Code: Select all
2. Lewis Hamilton 118 x 44 = 5192
7. Valtteri Bottas 34 x 77 = 2618
5. Nico Hulkenberg 47 x 27 = 1269
3. Fernando Alonso 61 x 14 = 854
1. Nico Rosberg 122 x 6 = 732
8. Jenson Button 31 x 22 = 682
9. Kevin Magnussen 21 x 20 = 420
11. Felipe Massa 18 x 19 = 342
10. Sergio Perez 20 x 11 = 220
4. Daniel Ricciardo 54 x 3 = 162
Code: Select all
12. Kimi Raikkonen 17 x 7 = 119
15. Daniil Kvyat 4 x 26 = 104
14. Jean-Eric Vergne 4 x 25 = 100
13. Romain Grosjean 8 x 8 = 64
6. Sebastian Vettel 45 x 1 = 45
16. Jules Bianchi 2 x 17 = 34
So Lewis now has double that of Valterri, who has double that of the Hulk. And had Jules been in 8th rather than 9th here in Monaco, he would have been ahead of both Vettel and Grosjean in the Drivers' Championship!
Code: Select all
Mercedes 5192 + 732 = 5924
Williams 2618 + 342 = 2960
Force India 1269 + 220 = 1489
McLaren 682 + 420 = 1102
Ferrari 854 + 119 = 973
Red Bull 162 + 45 = 207
Toro Rosso 104 + 100 = 204
Lotus 64
Marussia 34
That 5 second penalty for Bianchi has put Marussia behind Lotus! And a tight battle between the two Red Bull teams. McLaren have fallen a long way back since Melbourne, while Williams are clinging on in there.

So Bottas scores the most points here, but could have done much, much better to close the gap to Hamilton in the WDC. Own goal. And a podium for Jenson.

Jenson and Fernando likely to make it to 1000 points in the next race or two. It's now close between Ricciardo, Perez and Vergne. And think how much closer to Lewis Bottas might have been if Wiiliams had had better strategy this year... And Vettel is second-last of points-scorers!

Toro Rosso move ahead of Red Bull, despite Ricciardo being first across the line! Otherwise not a lot changes. Williams close up a bit, but will need to seriously improve their strategy to win this.

Valterri has his third win of the year, his first in a country where HRH Queen Elizabeth II is not head of state! And two Williams on the podium.

16. Jules Bianchi 2 x 17 = 34
And Bottas is now upto 70.7% of Lewis's total - can he continue to claw back the deficit in the coming races? I sure hope so! We now have 4 drivers over 1000 points, with a further two not far away.
WCC

Red Bull 249 + 60 = 309
Toro Rosso 200 + 104 = 304
Lotus 60
Marussia 34
Interesting to note the large disparencies between teammates' points scores here, with the two McLaren drivers being proportionally closest, and the only two to be adjacent to each other in the WDC points table...

10. Jean-Eric Vergne 1 x 25 = 25
5. Sebastian Vettel 10 x 1 = 10
Bo77as again scores a few hundred more than Lewis to close a bit further up in the championship, but not by as much as in Austria. And they score significantly more than any other driver.
WDC
Code: Select all
2. Lewis Hamilton 161 x 44 = 7084
5. Valtteri Bottas 73 x 77 = 5621
7. Nico Hulkenberg 63 x 27 = 1701

6. Sebastian Vettel 70 x 1 = 70
14. Romain Grosjean 8 x 8 = 64
16. Jules Bianchi 2 x 17 = 34
Hamilton and Bo77as have a significant advantage and are likely to be the top-two this year in this championship. Even if Sutil were to start winning this year, he would only be scoring 2475 points per win, so would need a lot of luck... But Bo77as still has a chance. However, there's still a close battle between Alonso, Button and Rosberg.
WCC
Code: Select all
Mercedes 7084 + 990 = 8074
Williams 5621 + 570 = 6191
Force India 1701 + 308 = 2009
McLaren 1210 + 700 = 1910
Ferrari 1218 + 133 = 1351
Toro Rosso 225 + 156 = 381
Red Bull 294 + 70 = 364
Lotus 64
Marussia 34
A run-away advantage for Mercedes and Williams (thanks to their "number one" drivers); and close between Force India and McLaren, plus between the two Red Bull teams. Maybe not so close between Lotus and Marussia, given how unlikely it is for Marussia to score again (although Lotus does not look likely to score either...).
And I am unlikely to update this again until around the Italian GP in September, given being on uni placement from tomorrow until 29th August.

14. Romain Grosjean 8 x 8 = 64
16. Jules Bianchi 2 x 17 = 34
Bottas is now significantly closing in on Lewis. From only having approximately (!!!) half the points of Lewis a few races ago, Valterri could easily overhaul Lewis in the next few races. And Perez and Ricciardo are only a point apart.
WCC
Code: Select all
Mercedes 7744 + 1140 = 8884
Williams 7007 + 570 = 7577
Force India 1863 + 319 = 2182

Red Bull 318 + 82 = 400
Toro Rosso 225 + 156 = 381
Lotus 64
Marussia 34
Mercedes probably have become the first team ever to have both drivers score over 1000 points within the same season. If Massa had been able to score in the last two races, could Williams have been within 1000 points of Mercedes? Quite possibly... And Mercedes-powered teams fill places 1, 2, 3 and 4!

The penultimate post of the last page would confirm that this would be the case after the Chinese GP, and, if I had the time to recalculate, I would indeed suspect that it would continue to be as you say. Maybe I'll try recalculating in September using the possible other car numbers...

Bottas loses the lead of this alternative championship. Easy come, easy go. Won't be long until both he and Lewis exceed 10,000 points. And being around three-quarters through the season, it looks likely that Hulkenberg, Alonso, Button and possibly Rosberg will all exceed 2000 points which, in any other season, would likely have got them the championship here.

In the same race, both Williams and Mercedes exceed 10,000 points within a season for the first time. A close battle between McLaren and Force India, and the four Mercedes teams remain the dominant 4 teams overall.

Jules Bianchi is no longer the last of the points scorers. Valterri Bottas still has a chance, but only thanks to double-points. He would need either a first or second to win, with Lewis failing to score (well, Lewis would certainly need to be 9th or lower, but that isn't likely, is it?). The previous highest total for a championship win was 2156, scored by Lewis in 2008. Well, we now have 5 drivers above that, with Rosberg and Massa potentially also overhauling that in Abu Dhabi. Oh, and two British drivers in the top-3, with the other being a Williams driver. This makes me

Double-points will be used in Abu Dhabi in this championship, but clearly regular car numbers retained. Always I will multiply the actual number of points scored by the actual car number used.

Had Vettel raced with the number 5, he would have gained about 5 positions in the drivers' championship. However Red Bull would not have gained any further positions in the Constructors' Championship. 6 drivers this year beat the record for most points in a season, and Rosberg wasn't far off - he would probably have done it if he had had a podium in Abu Dhabi, likely until his mechanical gremlins struck. If Adrian Sutil had miraculously won in Abu Dhabi, he would have scored 4950 points and thus finished a distant 3rd.

Every number from 3 to 14 is taken, apart from 4 and 10. 2 is obviously also free. Palindrome 2-digit numbers are popular as well, with drivers taking 11, 22, 33, 44, 55 and 77. (Of course, last year, 99 was also taken by Sutil, who does not have a drive yet and whose number can not yet be reallocated. Looks like this may have been the number Merhi may have gone for had it been available.)
Predictions? I reckon it'll be between Lewis and Valterri again. And Toro Rosso likely to improve upon last year. Plus, if Manor were to score again, I hope it'll be with Merhi!

If that continued this year, I make these would be the numbers:
1 Hamilton
2 Rosberg
3 Ricciardo
4 Kvyat
5 Bottas
6 Massa
7 Raikkonen
8 Vettel
9 Button
10 Alonso/Magnussen
11 Perez
12 Hulkenberg
14 Verstappen
15 Sainz
16 Grosjean
17 Maldonado
18 Stevens
19 Merhi
20 Ericsson
21 Nasr
With Ferrari and McLaren I'm giving the incumbent the lower number which usually happened with those teams (I'm think Massa having 7 and Alonso 8 in 2010). Force India I'm not sure about but reckon Perez would be given his lucky number. Toro Rosso I'm guessing Verstappen gets the lower number by dint of being signed first.

8. Marcus Ericcson 4 x 9 = 36
6. Daniel Ricciardo 8 x 3 = 24
10 Sergio Perez 1 x 11 = 11
With Lewis choosing to ditch with tradition and not run with number 1, this season is looking likely to be a season of domination. It's a great shame that Bottas is currently injured he's likely to be the only driver to pose a challenge to Lewis in this championship again. Of course, with number 1, Lewis would have scored 25 points here, and the championship would likely be a Williams-dominated championship.

Force India 162 + 11 = 173

3. Hamilton 384 * 4 = 1536
4. Hulkenberg 96 * 12 = 1152

6. Rosberg 317 * 3 = 951
7. Alonso 161 * 5 = 805
8. Perez 59 * 11 = 649
9. Magnussen 55 * 10 = 550
10. Ricciardo 238 * 2 = 476

12. Raikkonen 55 * 6 = 330
13. Vettel 167 * 1 = 167

15. Grosjean 8 * 8 = 64
16. Bianchi 2 * 20 = 40
17. Maldonado 2 * 7 = 14
It's debatable whether some team numbers may have been reversed but Bottas wins easily even with the lower Williams number! Reversing the Mercedes numbers would have had Rosberg 3rd overall with 1268 and Hamilton tied on 1152 with The Hulk.

Force India 162 + 11 = 173
Sauber 120 + 36 = 156
Red Bull 52 + 27 = 79
Likely to be a good year for Toro Rosso if they can maintain consistent points-scoring results.

Because he'd win with his number being relatively high for having scored a 3rd and a win so far.....
Any teams with higher number are struggling relatively - well I guess Nasr would have got 210 points for Oz compared to Vettel's 200 for Malaysia but doubt Nasr could keep that up.......

Oh hang on, I was thinking Vettel having 8, while everybody retains their current numbers. But no. Hamilton would have 1, Bottas would be 5 or 6, Rosberg 2, etc. So with everybody (not just Vettel as I read it) under the old system, then that would be true.

So here are the recent race results:
Spanish Grand Prix 2015
Code: Select all
4 Valtteri Bottas 12 x 77 = 924
2 Lewis Hamilton 18 x 44 = 792
6 Felipe Massa 8 x 19 = 152
1 Nico Rosberg 25 x 6 = 150
9 Carlos Sainz 2 x 55 = 110
3 Sebastian Vettel 15 x 5 = 75

10 Daniil Kvyat 1 x 26 = 26
7 Daniel Ricciardo 6 x 3 = 18
Monaco Grand Prix 2015
Code: Select all
3 Lewis Hamilton 15 x 44 = 660
4 Daniil Kvyat 12 x 26 = 312
1 Nico Rosberg 25 x 6 = 150
2 Sebastian Vettel 18 x 5 = 90
8 Jenson Button 4 x 22 = 88
7 Sergio Perez 6 x 11 = 66
6 Kimi Raikkonen 8 x 7 = 56
10 Carlos Sainz 1 x 55 = 55
5 Daniel Ricciardo 10 x 3 = 30
9 Felipe Nasr 2 x 12 = 24
Canadian Grand Prix 2015
Code: Select all
3 Valtteri Bottas 15 x 77 = 1155
1 Lewis Hamilton 25 x 44 = 1100
6 Felipe Massa 8 x 19 = 152
2 Nico Rosberg 18 x 6 = 108
8 Nico Hulkenberg 4 x 27 = 108
4 Kimi Raikkonen 12 x 7 = 84
7 Pastor Maldonado 6 x 13 = 78
9 Daniil Kvyat 2 x 26 = 52
5 Sebastian Vettel 10 x 5 = 50
10 Romain Grosjean 1 x 8 = 8
Austrian Grand Prix 2015
Code: Select all
2 Lewis Hamilton 18 x 44 = 792
5 Valtteri Bottas 10 x 77 = 770
3 Felipe Massa 15 x 19 = 285
6 Nico Hulkenberg 8 x 27 = 216
1 Nico Rosberg 25 x 6 = 150
8 Max Verstappen 4 x 33 = 132
7 Pastor Maldonado 6 x 13 = 78
4 Sebastian Vettel 12 x 5 = 60
9 Sergio Perez 2 x 11 = 22
10 Daniel Ricciardo 1 x 3 = 3
British Grand Prix 2015
Code: Select all
1 Lewis Hamilton 25 x 44 = 1100
5 Valtteri Bottas 10 x 77 = 770
4 Felipe Massa 12 x 19 = 228
6 Daniil Kvyat 8 x 26 = 208
7 Nico Hulkenberg 6 x 27 = 162
2 Nico Rosberg 18 x 6 = 108
3 Sebastian Vettel 15 x 5 = 75
8 Kimi Raikkonen 4 x 7 = 28
9 Sergio Perez 2 x 11 = 22
10 Fernando Alonso 1 x 14 = 14
So there were a couple of races where Bottas out-scored Hamilton, but overall over these 5 races, Hamilton has extended his advantage. And didn't Kyvat do well in Monaco?! Plus Canada is one of those rare occasions where two drivers score the same points total in the same race.
WDC
Code: Select all
1 Lewis Hamilton 194 x 44 = 8536
4 Valtteri Bottas 77 x 77 = 5929
6 Felipe Massa 74 x 19 = 1406
2 Nico Rosberg 177 x 6 = 1062
8 Daniil Kvyat 27 x 26 = 702
3 Sebastian Vettel 135 x 5 = 675
9 Nico Hulkenberg 24 x 27 = 648
5 Kimi Raikkonen 76 x 7 = 532
15 Carlos Sainz 9 x 55 = 495
14 Max Verstappen 10 x 33 = 330
Code: Select all
11 Felipe Nasr 16 x 12 = 192
12 Sergio Perez 15 x 11 = 165
13 Pastor Maldonado 12 x 13 = 156
10 Romain Grosjean 17 x 8 = 136
7 Daniel Ricciardo 36 x 3 = 108
17 Jenson Button 4 x 22 = 88
16 Marcus Ericsson 5 x 9 = 45
18 Fernando Alonso 1 x 14 = 14
So, even if Hamilton ran with car number 1 and fell to about 10th in this championship, Bottas would still have a big advantage and this championship would not be competitive at the top.

Lotus 156 + 136 = 292
Sauber 192 + 45 = 237
McLaren 88 + 14 = 102
Toro Rosso are ahead of Red Bull! But only by 15 points! And Force India are between them! ...And there endeth the interest I reckon. Sorry.

10 Marcus Ericsson 1 x 9 = 9
Bottas had a brilliant opportunity to outscore Lewis this race and close up the championship, but alas! And Kvyat wins! Looking back in this thread, Petrov won in Australia 2011 and equal first with Button in Canada 2011, so not the first Russian to win in this alternative universe, but it's another new winner nonetheless.

It's competitive between Maldonado, Alonso and Ricciardo, with Perez and Button also close by. Much more interesting that the battle for the title...

Lotus 184 + 156 = 340
McLaren 154 + 132 = 286
Sauber 192 + 54 = 246
It is now close between Toro Rosso, Ferrari and Red Bull thanks to the results of today's race, leaving Force India behind. McLaren overhaul Sauber!

Belgian GP 2015

2 Nico Rosberg 18 x 6 = 108
7 Kimi Raikkonen 6 x 7 = 42
10 Marcus Ericsson 1 x 9 = 9
Another dominant victory for Hamilton. Another decent result for Kvyat. Grosjean's choice of car number penalises him.
WDC
Code: Select all
1 Lewis Hamilton 227 x 44 = 9988
6 Valtteri Bottas 79 x 77 = 6083
5 Felipe Massa 82 x 19 = 1558
7 Daniil Kvyat 57 x 26 = 1482
2 Nico Rosberg 199 x 6 = 1194
10 Max Verstappen 26 x 33 = 858
3 Sebastian Vettel 160 x 5 = 800
12 Nico Hulkenberg 24 x 27 = 648
4 Kimi Raikkonen 82 x 7 = 574

15 Fernando Alonso 11 x 14 = 154
8 Daniel Ricciardo 51 x 3 = 153
18 Jenson Button 6 x 22 = 132
17 Marcus Ericsson 7 x 9 = 63
Even if Lewis went for car number 1 as most other continuing WDCs since the mid-1970s have done, Bottas would still have a dominant championship position. The Red Bull junior drivers Kyvat, Sainz and Verstappen all are doing well and benefit here. The McLaren drivers don't really move far from their real-life positions.
WCC
Code: Select all
Mercedes 9988 + 1194 = 11182
Williams 6083 + 1558 = 7241
Red Bull 1482 + 153 = 1635
Ferrari 800 + 574 = 1374
Toro Rosso 858 + 495 = 1353
Force India 648 + 275 = 923
Lotus 304 + 156 = 460
McLaren 156 + 132 = 288
Sauber 192 + 63 = 255
Still fairly close between Ferrari and Toro Rosso with Red Bull within reach. The dominance of Hamilton and Bottas in the WDC makes the top of this dull, but Mercedes would be amongst the Red Bull/Ferrari/Toro Rosso battle if only Lewis had gone for car number one...
