I would just do it by WDC position since that's probably what would happen in real life.

Well, in the end, it was my decision, and most of the time it was based on experience or WDC positions, but I did admit where I was biased, which was only for Lewis, Jenson and the Williams team (based on their early season scoring). And for that I do not apologise!

Sorry I haven't updated this sooner. What with watching Minis racing at Brands Hatch (and then driving my own round Brands in a parade (never got above 40 mph, but still a great experience, particularly round Paddock Hill and up toewards Druids!), then giving in my research proposal (my last bit of written work ever at uni! or , I'm still not sure), then laundry and catching some rays with my course mates (and a few lecturers joined in for a short time...), well, you can see how time can go by quite nicely (even caught up with a big pile of laundry!). So here go with some inevitable results...

A tight battle between Raikkonen and Ricciardo, plus between Vergne and Kvyat. Makes up for the deficit in competitiveness between Hamilton and Bottas. Maybe it may have seemed better if Sutil were scoring decent points? And in any other previous season, Bottas would have scored enough now to be champion, but alas! And the incredible Hulk is just one point away from 1000! (although, of course, here he can only score in multiples of 27!).

And I work out the Constructors' some other time - gotta go and eat then off to a church group for this evening!

Yay! Marussia finally get onto the score board here! Still last of the point-scorers as in reality, but ahead of the non-scorers Sauber and Caterham (whose owner is an alumnus of my boarding school...).

Hamilton and Bo77as have a significant advantage and are likely to be the top-two this year in this championship. Even if Sutil were to start winning this year, he would only be scoring 2475 points per win, so would need a lot of luck... But Bo77as still has a chance. However, there's still a close battle between Alonso, Button and Rosberg.

Mercedes probably have become the first team ever to have both drivers score over 1000 points within the same season. If Massa had been able to score in the last two races, could Williams have been within 1000 points of Mercedes? Quite possibly... And Mercedes-powered teams fill places 1, 2, 3 and 4!

The penultimate post of the last page would confirm that this would be the case after the Chinese GP, and, if I had the time to recalculate, I would indeed suspect that it would continue to be as you say. Maybe I'll try recalculating in September using the possible other car numbers...

Jules Bianchi is no longer the last of the points scorers. Valterri Bottas still has a chance, but only thanks to double-points. He would need either a first or second to win, with Lewis failing to score (well, Lewis would certainly need to be 9th or lower, but that isn't likely, is it?). The previous highest total for a championship win was 2156, scored by Lewis in 2008. Well, we now have 5 drivers above that, with Rosberg and Massa potentially also overhauling that in Abu Dhabi. Oh, and two British drivers in the top-3, with the other being a Williams driver. This makes me .

Double-points will be used in Abu Dhabi in this championship, but clearly regular car numbers retained. Always I will multiply the actual number of points scored by the actual car number used.

Had Vettel raced with the number 5, he would have gained about 5 positions in the drivers' championship. However Red Bull would not have gained any further positions in the Constructors' Championship. 6 drivers this year beat the record for most points in a season, and Rosberg wasn't far off - he would probably have done it if he had had a podium in Abu Dhabi, likely until his mechanical gremlins struck. If Adrian Sutil had miraculously won in Abu Dhabi, he would have scored 4950 points and thus finished a distant 3rd.

Some guys name their alernative championships after somebody significant within their alternative universe. For example, I could have named this championship after George Amick, who finished second in the 1958 Indy 500, and was enough to win that year's F1 title. But with the FIA retiring Jules Bianchi's career car number, it seems somehow appropriate that this championship is named after the first driver to have his number retired.

Even if Lewis went for car number 1 as most other continuing WDCs since the mid-1970s have done, Bottas would still have a dominant championship position. The Red Bull junior drivers Kyvat, Sainz and Verstappen all are doing well and benefit here. The McLaren drivers don't really move far from their real-life positions.
