I wouldn't say that the LPs sound any worse than CDs. Especially nowadays the CDs are often "remastered" to sound as loud as possible which in my fair opinion reduces the sound quality quite a bit. I mostly listen to heavy metal and when I want to listen to it loud, I do have the volume button at my disposal. So when I really want to enjoy the music I dig up the original LP instead of the CD.
No, I am not a hipster.
Mastering and sound quality are two different things, my friend.

Mastering itself is the technique of compressing volume and reducing dynamics. While I agree with the fact that equalisation and some compression to make some instruments sound louder is a good thing, killing dynamics entirely is bad (See Death Magnetic as how not to master).
CD is technically superior as it's entirely digital and there isn't loss in audio quality over time. Your LP might have an analog sound to it which you like, but you cannot deny that vinyl detoriates over time, you get all the cracks and pops and it's just unwanted.
(For the record I think the quieter the thing and the more dynamics it has is better, but I prefer digital sound)
