McLaren will use the opportunity of a Non-Championship race to allow Carlos Reutemann to rest and recover after a disappointing start to the season, in the hopes he will reclaim his 1976 form.

Fastest Lap: Tom Sneva - 1:10.557
Drive of the Race: Gilles Villeneuve - Dragging every little bit of the Kojima and more, was challenging the Renaults despite the power deficit.
Reject of the Race: Patrick Depailler - Ferrari had the horseower to take victory today, but pace was lacking. de Angelis cannot be faulted as it was his first race outing in the car, but Depailler has nowhere to hide from a distant fourth and a shocker of a weekend.

Hesketh are impressed with South's highly competent performance in the 308D/77 (which appears to be getting worse race by race, and is seemingly hopelessly fragile also), and are willing to offer him a drive (if funds can be found) for the three rounds we have no second driver for; That is to say, Rounds 13, 16 and 17.

No surprises at the top of both the individual and combined times, but behind, there was much entertainment throughout the whole of the Pre-Q pack. John Watson excelled in the Shadow to post the 4th best time, and was almost held back by Alex Riberio - who was slower than Gimax, who set the first remotely competitive lap in the Wheatcroft all season. However, Watson's time proved fast enough for Shadow to feature in their first qualifying session since Long Beach. Pierre Dieudonne set the 6th fastest lap for the debutant Michel Vaillant team, but team-mate Herve Regout disappointed; and it was much the same story for Hesekth and Penske, with Brett Lunger suddenly finding some pace with rumours of his replacement by Bertram Schafer circulating. Everest were unlucky to miss out on qualifying by such a small margin, and Iberia will rue a lost opportunity, as mechanical problems prevented a fast-looking di Villota from setting a time.
Towards the bottom of the timesheets, North Star and B&S were again useless, and despite the brilliant lap from Gimax Wheatcroft ended up over 25 seconds adrift on combined times thanks to the efforts of Stuppacher, who has all the speed of bitumen. Dywa were also in their usual position, but it must be noted that Renzo Zorzi was closer to the B&S of Kessel than has previously been the case. Reckless speed from the Italian in a car rumoured to be held together by nothing but duct tape and hope.

Penske offers Bertram Schäfer the chance to drive the remainder of the season with Penske as a pay driver from the French GP onwards. Lunger's two remaining contracted races will be the US and Canadian GP, should Schäfer accept.
Penske also intend to extend Pescarolo's contract to the end of the year.

Reject of the Race: Patrick Tambay - Managed to re-inherit 5th after retirements, but it shan't be forgotten that he almost threw it all away with a lazy spin.

1977 Trofeo Dino Ferrari
In honor of Enzo's late son, Dino, Imola will be hosting a non-championship event. This will also serve as a warm-up to a future championship Grand Prix at the venue. In honour of Dino, Ferrari are automatically entered with four cars. Scuderia Everest have also been entered, running customer 1976 Ferrari 312T's instead of their usual Marches. Renzo have also been entered, but will be running their typical chassis.
This leaves a remaining 9 entries, which will be split between 5 FOCA teams and 4 privateers. There will be no travel fees for this event, but prize money will still be awarded. As usual, you can bring your regular drivers, or hire one-offs for no wage.

Drive of the Race: Mario Andretti - Dominating performance from the likeable American. Really showed the pace of the Lotus.
Reject of the Race: Patrick Tambay - Managed to re-inherit 5th after retirements, but it shan't be forgotten that he almost threw it all away with a lazy spin.

You're currently running a two-year-old chassis with two-year-old engines driven by pay-drivers, which is where the deficit is coming from. North Star only have £60,000, so unfortunately there's not a lot you can do with that little budget.
