Indeed! Though I'm not sure it was worth the comeback... :? Even with a modified AI file to give him a ton more performance! Just shows how bad the Arrows really is!

Is this still going on as have enjoyed it or are real life distractions putting it on hiatus?

Hey!

Chris Dagnall is on summer vacation, I guess. My job´s busiest season is the summer so I haven´t got much time left between that, my girlfriend and my band!
I plan to be back with this in the second half of september :)

Hi everybody!!

Chris Dagnall is finally back!!

I´ve actually completed the Portuguese and Spanish GP´s from the 1990 season, but I raced them quite a time ago and I lost my notes so I´ll go on with what I remember and the results (but not qualifying or times, just positions, as these were on my notes).

ROUND 13 - PORTUGAL

I got the pole position but I got passed by Senna at the start. On lap 2 I passed him on turn 4 but he suddenly ran into my car and we collided! He retired while I lost my front wing, finding myself last! He said he was bitterly disappointed but it was clearly his fault... I had to storm through the field and so I did, as Prost suffered some problems, I was first before my 2nd pitstop... only to suffer from a puncture shortly after it, which got me fighting with the Benettons and Mansell for a short while until they stopped as well and made my way to my third consecutive win and taking the lead in the drivers championship!!

1. Dagnall
2. Mansell
3. Berger
4. Alesi
5. Piquet
6. Prost
7. Capelli
8. Patrese
9. Warwick
10. Caffi
11. Martini
12. Larini
13. Alboreto
14. Boutsen

ROUND 14 - SPAIN

I suffered my usual hate to this track and didn´t qualify well and also crashed during the race, so it was basically a weekend to forget as Senna won and took back the championship lead (but just by one point!)

1. Senna
2. Berger
3. Nakajima
4. Bernard
5. Gugelmin
6. Nannini
7. Martini
8. Caffi
9. Modena
10. Alesi
11. Larini
12. Alliot
13. De Cesaris
14. Suzuki
15. Capelli
16. Alboreto
17. Foitek

DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP

1. Senna -- 71
2. Dagnall -- 70

1990 - ROUND 15 - JAPAN

Qualifying

I had a bad friday this time, and ended up 5th with little hope regarding the rest of the weekend but the track conditions improved on Saturday and I snapped the Pole in what´s been the closest qualifying session this year!

1. Dagnall -- 1.37.361
2. Senna -- 1.37.400
3. Prost -- 1.37.556
4. Mansell -- 1.37.959
5. Patrese -- 1.38.400
6. Boutsen -- 1.38.827

Race

The Mclaren was again a bit doggy at the start, and, stunningly, both Ferraris took the lead, while I passed Senna at the Casio triangle at the end of lap 1. On the 2nd lap I made what I believe is the best move in my career!: Exiting the spoon I was behind Mansell, who tried to pass Prost. Both had to take 130R a bit slower than usual and I took it to my advantage to pass both at the Casio triangle! I was leading now. By lap 7 Senna had passed Mansell, but that allowed me to take a handy 5 sec advantage, with Prost having to pit to repair a loose wheel in lap 8, putting him out of the game. Then Senna, started to close the gap over me and came just behind by lap 11. I could hold him until his 1st pit in lap 18, while I came into the pits in lap 19, holding my position by a second. I quickly passed Patrese for 2nd and then Mansell for 1st in lap 23. The good news was that Senna was unable to pass Mansell for 7 laps, in which I built a 12 secs gap. I knew Ayrton was faster than me though, and so I couldn´t relax. After the 2nd stop Senna was 9.7 behind in lap 38, which was reduced to 3.8 in lap 47 and 2.4 in lap 50. I thought he was going to attack me in the last 3 laps, but he got a bit stuck behind Gugelmin and that allowed me to take the win and back into the lead of the championship with just one race to go!!

Results

1. Dagnall -- 1h30m02.013
2. Senna -- +1.189
3. Prost -- +33.672
4. Patrese -- +43.533
5. Piquet -- +50.756
6. Mansell -- +1.07.318
7. Capelli -- +1 lap
8. Berger -- +1 lap
9. Larini -- +1 lap
10. Alliot -- +1 lap
11. Alesi -- +1 lap
12. Caffi -- +1 lap
13. Gugelmin -- +2 laps
14. Brabham -- +2 laps

ROTR - Gerhard Berger; Couldn´t drive a fine Benetton into the points falling way behind Piquet.

1990 - ROUND 16 - AUSTRALIA

Here it is, the final round from the 1990 world championship as seen by Chris Dagnall!

Qualifying

The weekend couldn´t get better on Friday. I got the pole position quite easily and Senna got stuck behind some slower cars and only got 9th. On Saturday I couldn´t improve my time and my team-mate didn´t go on track so I would start the race for the championship with a huge advantage!

1. Dagnall -- 1.16.324
2. Mansell -- 1.16.879
3. Prost -- 1.17.085
4. Patrese -- 1.17.345
5. Boutsen -- 1.17.391
6. Piquet -- 1.17.718
---
9. Senna -- 1.18.236

Race

Mansell started slightly better but I could gain the position at the first turn, with Prost on 3rd. I knew the Ferraris would be tough to beat but I didn´t know how much. I realised it was going to be a long race when I couldn´t get Mansell off my mirrors during the first 5 laps. Meanwhile, Senna was 7th and couldn´t get to pass Piquet. On lap 8 I was starting to build a small gap (around 2 secs) from Mansell, but when I was passing the finish line I heard a noise at the back and looked at the mirrors. White smoke. Engine broken. End of the race. I just didn´t know how to react, after having won most races than any other driver this season and getting a hell lot of pole positions to end up like this. I bet Ayrton smiled when he got past my smoking McLaren. He knew the championship was on his hands, and of course he didn´t fail to deliver a safe drive to 2nd after having passed Piquet in the 2nd round of pitstops.
I guess after all a 2nd place in the championship is not bad at all. I´ll be back in 1991.

1. Mansell -- 1h49m15.941
2. Senna -- +25.378
3. Piquet -- +46.077
4. Boutsen -- +47.278
5. Martini -- +1 lap
6. Alliot -- +2 laps
7. Foitek -- +3 laps
8. Larini -- +5 laps
9. Nannini -- +6 laps
10. Capelli -- +7 laps

DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP - Final standings (there were some errors in the Japanese GP standings, this is the correct standings)

1. Senna -- 83
2. Dagnall -- 79
3. Mansell -- 38
4. Prost -- 37
5. Piquet -- 33
6. Berger -- 29
7. Boutsen -- 28
8. Patrese -- 14
9. Alesi -- 11
10. Bernard -- 10
11. Donnelly -- 6
12. Caffi -- 6
13. Nakajima -- 4
14. Capelli -- 4
15. Warwick -- 4
16. Gugelmin -- 4
17. Suzuki -- 3
18. Martini -- 2
19. Nannini -- 2
20. Larini -- 1
21. Alliot -- 1
22. De Cesaris -- 1

CONSTRUCTORS CHAMPIONSHIP

1. Honda Marlboro McLaren -- 162
2. Scuderia Ferrari SpA -- 75
3. Benetton Formula -- 62
4. Canon Williams Team -- 42
5. Tyrrell Racing Organisation -- 15
6. Espo Larrousse F1 -- 12
7. Camel Team Lotus -- 10
8. Leyton House Racing -- 8
9. Footwork Arrows Racing -- 6
10. SCM Minardi Team -- 4
11. Ligier Gitanes -- 2
12. Scuderia Italia -- 1

Same! That sucks majorly! You should totally give Honda the shaft for next year ;) But in all seriousness, second is still superb and you took the fight all the way to the final round. It's a hollow title for Senna! Good luck for '91 :D
