Well, let it roll. One more or less day won't make much of a difference for the Season Finale. Oh, while we're at it, do we want a second season?

I'm a newbie here, but I'd certainly say "yeah, let's go for it". :D

Gotta evolve my new GT4 game to the point I get more car choices though. Getting licenses and racing a Mazda RX-7 now (speaking of which, I'd like to suggest a "theme round" with rotary engines for next season ;) )

Just a question for the possible next season. I have both GT2 and GT4, but have only used GT4 in this season. Could I use both of the games in the next season, with only the better result of them two going to the total championship, and both results going to their individual championships?

Well, I don't think that couldn't work. We can try, although I hope it's not getting to confusing.

Really surprised to have beaten Nuppiz there - I pitted like, 11 times, missed my planned pit in lap not once, not twice, but thrice, made countless mistakes - including falling half-asleep and having to have a 10 minute break towards the end - and got held up once pretty badly by the AI.

If only I'd had enough time to finish the race! I had to savestate at the end of lap 32, and judging by my pace thus far I was set for an overall race time of 1:52:00 or so. Considering that would be 2nd place overall in an RUF CTR2 road car against a bunch of race-prepared JGTC machines, that's quite impressive no?!

Oh well, fresh start for next season means I have a shot at winning the Sakon Yamamoto Trophy

So I actually took 1st! I'm surprised :D

Working at evolving my game for this new scenario! My PS2 still sorta works, even though it gives out a read error every now and then. I may use my previous game in case I don't get the cars for this scenario in time...

Congrats to BlindCaveSalamander on winning the overall championship. Like I said before, the NSX was very quick, but it also ate a lot of tires if I pushed hard. So for the most part of the race I had to take a slower pace, but the big problem was that I've never been good at it - it's either full-on attack or nothing at all for me, that's why I'm good at one-lap challenges but struggle in endurance events.

Winning the GT4 series is still very nice, maybe if I had payed more attention to certain rounds, such as the Laguna Seca one, I could've won the overall championship, but I'm happy with this result as well. :)

I'll look at my three car choices this week, and I try to look on the 'net if all of the games listed have the cars in question.

May I suggest the Audi TT LM Edition? GT2 was the first to have it, and I think all subsequent GTs have had it as well?

Nah, I've never been very passionate about the TT. I've usually sold it right away after the challenge for it has been completed.

Here's my list:
Mazda RX-7 Infini III '90/Mazda RX-7 GT-X '90: Infini III was the very first car I bought in GT2, over ten years ago when I first started playing the whole game. It's a very balanced vehicle. GT5 doesn't have Infini III in it so it can be substituted with the GT-X instead.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR '92: Likewise, the very first car I bought in GT4. Again, it's a great all-around car.
Mercury Cougar XR-7 '67: The first high performance car I bought in GT2, which taught me a lot about power sliding and the importance of tuning the gearbox.

Because of the differences in sheer raw power between these three, I'd allow the RX-7 to be tuned with a Stage 1 turbocharger to even out the field. Oil changes are allowed too, but the tyres cannot be better than Sports Medium.

Lancer has enough power as of default and the 4WD surely helps against the Cougar, while RX-7s high-reving engine, balanced FR layout and relatively light weight help it compete against the two.

What about the Toyota Celica ST185 GT-Four RC '91? That's around the same level as the RX-7, and that's also a 4WD car, which is also available on day 1 and under 10K money.

GT2 doesn't have the 1992 Lancer. So, I used a very similar Evo II instead. Here's how I got on...

I also like the RX-7. The first car I bought for this new GT4 game is a RX-7 GT-X - it's an excellent initial car. It's got a good mix of power and handling, thanks to the Wankel engine and FR layout.

My RX-7 has a few tuning items apart from the stage 1 turbo that are non-removable (port polish / engine balance), so I think I'll have to get another one. Pooling the money for it... but seeing as I suggested a round for rotary engines, I'll go with one.

Edit #1: Got a RX-7 INFINI III now, and just changed its oil. I'll now do two runs with different settings, one with Klon's allowed tuning (racing tires/oil change) and one with Nuppiz's allowed tuning (stage 1 turbo / Sports Medium tires), then see how it goes.

Edit #2: I did both runs, and now that I saw Klon's edit to the original post, Nuppiz's settings are what will effectively be used. I could've saved the money I spent on the racing tires, but oh well, I can get it again. :)

Oh, I seem to have misremembered it. You're welcome to use the Evo II then. In fact, my sister's first car was a '94 Lancer GLi (not Evo, of course!)

Eh, well, small problem...
I used a resumed savestate on ePSXe which wiped any existence of the Lancer EvoII I used in that video, because the savestate was from before I owned the car, thus basically travelling back in time, changing the course of history and thus stopping it from existing in the first place. Oops. Causality in a computer game, jeez...

Anyway, I had to play some other races in GT Mode for a few (game) days for another one to show up in the Mitsubishi Used garage, and I think this one came pre-broken, because it's about 4s a lap slower by default than the other one was for reasons I can't understand. :|

I have no idea how you guys are getting those times with the Evo. I've tried all 3 cars, and from what I can tell, the Evo is by far the worst. The one I have is completely gutless and I cannot get a remotely competitive time from it at all - I'm trundling around in the 1:53s in that thing here. Then again, you are using the Evo II, and I'm using the Evo I, so that might explain some things...

I'd also like to take this opportunity to say that I would love to doing nothing more than beat the everloving crap out of the genius who decided that what the Seattle Circuit in GT4 really needs are tiny pointless runoff areas and giant kerbs that do nothing apart from launch your car in a manner to shame Vitaly Petrov and ruin your perfectly good lap. Great design choices guys, seriously.

Couldn't do a video on it as the emulator stopped responding as I was about to record the replay in video (maybe because of some interaction between Fraps and PCSX2), but this is my final time - lapped it in 1'48.165. I could maybe improve into the high 1'47, as I made a little mistake in that lap, but I just didn't have the time. Here's a screenshot I took just before trying to record the video (see the Fraps counter on it):

Image

I made a video of an earlier attempt, that I lapped in 1'48.4 I think. Made two mistakes in that lap though - I might put it up somewhere (not Youtube as I forgot to disable the BGM before recording) if anyone would like.

My first guess would be Markus Winkelock's sensational form in FIA GT1 World Championship? (Two wins in a row now)

Um, I don't think Nuppiz or MinardiFan were using GT4, Klon...

I guess I should give GT2 a spin after this, that was as good a lap as I could possibly do and I was still a second off.

Well, I don't think that couldn't work. We can try, although I hope it's not getting to confusing.

Ah. That would explain it. I think I'll be doing that as well from now on, then.

Do you think you could include those times for other games, but are not counted in the overall championship?
