'Bump'

As I don't know whether to create a new thread for this, I'll just ressurect this one if it's OK...

Autosport are reporting that Kubica will undergo one final operation at the end of the month, to free up his elbow which had been slowing his recovery.

Thanks to that bumping I thought he got seriously injured again. :?

Well, nevermind. Let's see whether that last operation will help matters. Although this might very well be the confirmation we will not see him again this year, unless my dark theory regarding Renault turns true.

Quite frankly, I don't want him to return this year. The more time he has to recuperate, the more chance the car will be his to control and there will be less chance of any nasty side effects of getting into the car too soon.

Godspeed, Robert.

This.

I thought more misfortune had gone Kubica's way

Another injury for Kubica

According to BBC Sport he has broken his right leg in an accident near his home...

Terrible news for Kubica. Broken his leg again in the same place as the existing injury. Prospects of a return now seem increasingly gloomy. If there was a weakness at the original point of injury full recovery seems improbable.

More here...

looks like a complication related to a previous injury.

Posted in the original thread whilst you were posting this... :)

& according to the report I posted the leg has broken in exactly the same place which does not bode well at all.

I'll be amazed if he returns to F1. I know people have in the past from horrific injuries. Niki Lauda and Herbert. But the toll on the body with current G forces will be too much i imagine if he has nerve damage and weakened muscles which i'm guessing he as.

Shame. I liked seeing his big honker in F1.

Not good. I'm not writing an F1 return off for him, but that's the last thing he needed.

I fear for the career of my favourite driver from from the last few years.

Such a shame, seems like his future holds no promises of world championships anymore :(

For that reason I think that I'll merge this thread into the old one since the two are ultimately intertwined.

Yeah, Kubica is done for. Expect someone coming out of the bushes and saying that he's either "the best driver to have never won the world championship"/"been robbed by fate of his assured WDC win" in three, two, one...

Well, I wouldn't go that far, but he's definitely a contender, with Stirling Moss and Carlo Reutemann. I definitely think he would've won the title in 2010 had he had a McLaren, Red Bull, or Ferrari.

He's finished. Irrespective of his hand/arm injuries another leg break just about does for him. I wouldnt rule out seeing him in some sort of F1 test but it would be as much for publicity as for evaluation purposes.

A shame. I will put him in my "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda" file alongside the mighty legend that was Allesandro Nannini.

Amusingly, on both here and other forums, there were opinions that before this Kubica could've come back and won a championship even though they also thought an non-injured Raikkonen couldnt have!!??

This does seem to put the final nail into the coffin of Kubica's recovery, to F1 at least. Let's hope, like Nannini, that he can find success in some other form of motorsport.

A tremendous shame.

I still think it is a bit early to jump on "He will never drive an F1 again" conclusion for the time being but I admit things do not look good.

Either Fernando is overly-optimistic or he knows something that we don't.

Then again, this is the same man who won his first F3 race at the Norisring despite having one arm held together by a cast and 18 titanium bolts.

I am I the only one here who thinks he's a monumental idiot for even getting himself in the position to injure himself again whilst still recovering from his horrific former injuries? Perhaps I've missed something from the stories, but he really should be taking more care, and looking after himself a lot better than he clearly has been. He parted ways with his original doctor a little while ago as well didn't he?

Oh dear. That news ain't good. I'm not going to rule out a return to F1, but I'll seriously doubt he'll come back. Sportscar career now...

He certainly is the best driver I've had the opportunity to watch among those who aren't world champions.

I don't really follow racing series other than F1, but I occasionally watch races from other series. One of these happened to be a rainy Formula Renault event which was absolutely dominated by a certain Polish driver who went by the name of Robert Kubica. While performance in lower series does not ensure success in the top fly, nevertheless I thought the guy could do very well if he ever arrived at F1.

That crackpot Kubica is obviously doing everything he can in order to stay away from F1. Idiot.
