David Leslie deserved to be BTCC champion in 1999, not Laurent Aiello. Leslie did the bulk of the development work on the Nissan Primera (and indeed a lot of work for RML years earlier) turning it into the class of the field, and when Anthony Reid left to join Ford at the end of 1998, Leslie should have been promoted to lead driver. But oh no, Nissan draft Aiello (who admittedly was a great driver) into the squad, make him the undisputed number 1 (apparently without the knowledge of Leslie or Ray Mallock, according to the Super Touring special of Autosport last month) and basically shafted poor Leslie. Massive injustice to someone who'd given so much to the BTCC and never really got his just reward.

Aiello was a fair bit faster anyway, so I disagree.

Ryan Briscoe should just focus on racing in tintops and GT cars now. Apart from 2008, he's shown in open wheelers that, while he's a good wheelman, he simply hasn't got that X-Factor to consistently beat the top guys in IndyCar. His part-time stint at Panther this year hasn't done him any favours at all either.

He was good in 2009 as well.
Oh wait, 2009 was the year I was supposed to be talking about, not 2008, having just checked his career results again.

Yeah apart from the major oil spill in race 3 in the BTCC in 2012 i can't really think of 1 stellar moment that has happened on that type of Brands Circuit.
Which leads me to this one: The BTCC should race on the proper circuit at Silverstone

However, because its a short circuit set in a natural amphitheatre, the fans can see most of the lap

Silverstone is a bit flat compared to Brands Hatch mate

Exactly. Brands Indy is just too short for any top-flight racing, it is practically an oval.

I don't see why that would be unpopular, I would love to see the return of the British GP support round they last had in 1996 on the full track.
One disappointment I have is not hanging around to watch that and still getting caught for four hours trying to get out of the car park.
Still, I have enjoyed watching the BTCC at Brands a number of times since. Single-seaters definitely belong on the GP loop (I've watched SuperLeague and A1GP on the GP configuration and ChampCars on the Indy loop), whereas BTCC fits either. Maybe DTM may work better on the GP loop?

The good TV ratings in NASCAR is what made Danica go there in the first place.
The pay driver status of Menard and the inconsistency of Loy Allen Jr. is what we call Danica Patrick. Her erratic performance similar to Loy Allen Jr. probably has lowered NASCAR ratings much in the same way that her being a middling to occasionally good IndyCar driver improved ratings.

Ta-da! Fixed.
Unless that's what you're implying ARCA is? All I know about that series is that it's kinda like a feeder series to NASCAR that isn't licenced by the France family? (Had to fix it to something I understood!)

The problem with that is that the ratings were terrible even then. Sure they were better than they are now, but that's not saying much, if anything. IICS is getting out drawn by soccer, and over here, that's just pathetic. Now if you said, "I want her back to bring back some sponsors" that would be true, but still no, keep her away. She claimed for years she was a "NASCAR driver", and now that she is actually is, let her stay there.

Dark77 wrote:The old Snetterton is better than the new one.
The old circuit (now called Snetterton 200) is still available, with one slight change to the corner leading onto the the back straight (now known as Montreal corner), which is now a hairpin/chicane combo. When I went to their charity trackday last year both the 100 (infield) and 200 circuits were in use simultaneously.
Looking at the calender, it seems the 200 circuit has been used for about 11 meetings this year, not far off the number on the full new layout.
But as to your point, I agree, the challenge of the track is now somewhat different, being less about high speed and more technical now. Much better than the cut-down Silverstone National circuit though ...

Due to the fact that the Marlboro livery is so iconic, my mind tends to read the yellow as more of a red/dayglo orange.

Thank you, Master Settlement Agreement to remove the Malboro, I mean Marlboro from the Penske cars.

Clint Bowyer also can be shoehorned into this on the NASCAR with his inability to win on a specific type of oval, the all too common 1.5 mile type. Pretty much they have to be perfect or close to it elsewhere to even have a viable chance of winning a championship which for Bowyer is short tracks, California, New Hampshire, and restrictor plate tracks and for Power, street and road courses.

Nah, by the mid 90's it was starting to look incredibly tired

Think about it: if it wasn't so important CART would've survived the split easily.
But only if you then say the same thing about the Le Mans 24 Hours, Monaco GP, America's Cup, the Olympics, the World Cup, Wimbledon, etc.
