Sorry for the bump, but just realized this: Takuma Sato has never raced in an open wheel car that didn't have a honda engine.

Wow, I had to check for myself and you were right. He did test with Toro Rosso, but obviously this does not count as racing.

Nothing to do with Toro Rosso counts as racing, apart from driving like a moron and blocking everyone else.

So why the hell didn't they sign Sato?! Because ever since Buemi joined it's been getting worse and worse...

Sato didn't had Red Bull backup. They already had signed Bourdais and the drivers programme was pressured to deliver in order to justify their wages, so they pushed Buemi into the seat. Then when Buemi put himself on par with Bourdais, they fired the latter and pushed Alguersuari into the seat. Then when Alguersuari put himself on par with Buemi, they fire... You get the point.

I have a question... if the testing rules were more relaxed than they are now would Red Bull have used the A1-Ring (now Red Bull Ring) as a test venue for both their teams?

I personally think so.

Ye, I guess so. After all, during the Petronas days, Sauber tested at Ferrari's track during the Petronas days. So did Minardi, but I like to think of that as a favour from Ferrari to the little Italian team (and because Badoer drove for them). Schumacher did also test a Sauber a couple of times...

Schumacher testing Sauber when he clearly was never going to race one strikes me as incredibly shady business. That goes to show you how in bed Peter and Ferrari were, and possibly still are.

I don't really think so, firstly because it's in the middle of nowhere (although, at least, a militry airport they might have used is nearby), but more importantly because the weather is usually much worse / more uncertain than at the test tracks that are usually used.

Too bad he didn't test a Minardi as well. But, Schumacher also tested a Ligier in a official test. While driving for Benetton

The only reason he would do that is because Flav owned Ligier at the time aswell as Benetton

I wonder if Barrichello would still be in Formula 1 if he went to McLaren in 1995 like he was apparently rumoured to according to this.

He'd have had David Coulthard's career probably. And David Coulthard would have gone to Sauber for a few years and eventually given up.

But they're different genders! Vettel also has gone through puberty. Bieber is due to finish kindergarten next year.

Where do you think Toyota would have finished in 2010? I'd go with 6th.

I think Timo would have finished where Felipe did, while Jarno would have been like Robert. That's an overly optimistic 3rd place in the WCC.

I would say they would finish fourth, clearly slapping Mercedes but not quite a threat to Ferrari. But again, no wins.

They would've been about at Sauber's pace, no better, especially with Trulli still driving.

Why do I have the nagging feeling that neither reserve Renault driver will be used if it comes down to the worst possible outcome?

Sadly it looks as if they will need another driver, but you're right, i dont think they will use senna at all, or only for a few races. They need someone experienced.

The whole situation that Renault is in got me thinking.
2011 will not be a championship year for them; instead, it will be a rebuilding year for the team. This means Kubica's seat will not have a full time driver, but a rotating lineup, with both Senna and Grosjean, plus someone more experienced, such as Heidfeld or De La Rosa. IF Kubica is able to race this year, it will only be for one or two races towards the end; possibly Abu Dhabi and MAYBE Interlagos, but that is a big if. That way, the R31 can get even more fully tuned and made into a faster machine for next year, and the team can recover from any kind of setback (with the most obvious being Kubica's injury) this year.
