F1 2011 was bugged to hell. Can't look at emails because the scroll function DOESN'T WORK?! And also, after completing qualifying in China, the game moved me straight on to Istanbul practise, skipping the race in China?! What a joke...

I loved F1 2010. So much so that when I got 2011 I just couldn't enjoy it...it just felt bland and empty. And despite shelling out £40, I just can't get into 2012 either.

It might just be a mental thing; 2010 brought all the novelty of new cars, tracks, and all that sort of stuff. The most recent two just feel emotionless; I don't feel any emotional bond to the career mode any longer. I don't know what's wrong with me.

It's not just you - I loved Sony Studio Liverpool's F1: Championship Edition and I also loved Codemasters' racing games but for some reason I could never get into their F1 games, I only ever completed one season in both 2010 and 2011. I can't exactly point out the reason I didn't like them that much, perhaps Codemasters' Ego engine isn't suited to F1 or the career mode felt a bit too dull and unrealistic in terms of team interest - scoring regular points in a HRT would really get the attention of all of the teams in the paddock, not just Marussia and Caterham as in the games.

I think the career mode is boring because you can just repeat one season over and over. Really interesting would be a career mode which starts somewhere between 2000 (Button's first year) and 2012, and the player can choose the year where he whants to start. Of course it would be too much for a company to realize this, but there aren't any mods for F1 201X. I still prefer GP4, which unfortunately doesn't run on my new computer.

Did some of you play "Indy Racing 2000" on N64? I recently ran it, and it's actually pretty decent. It has a pseudo-career mode, where you run Midget, Sprint and Formula cars. Plus it simulates the 1999 IRL season. I'm currently playing as Roberto Guerrero, and while I'm probably not in contention for the IRL championship anymore, I won the Indy 500 at least. In an Infiniti!

For me, F1 1997 was the F1 game I still miss it to this day...

For me, F1 1997 was the F1 game I still miss it to this day...

Of course, '97 was THE BEST. Definitely gonna crack it out when I get home on Friday

Is your computer windows seven by any chance? If so, try installing and running it in admin mode.

When I was a kid, Monaco was the only track I would play because I'd crash all the time and didn't like going off the track...

F195 was fantastic too. I did a full season as Badoer's Minardi and put the fuel mix on full. I'd start the race with full fuel and wait in the grid until I was a lap down to everyone then set off trying to get the best result possible. It was a small glitch in the game I think because as the race went on, the car would get faster and faster. Scoring a 6th at Silverstone was a personal highlight.

Being of a slightly younger generation, the best game for me has to be F1 2003. At the time I was still quite young, and it was like 'WOW!' I happened to be quite good at it as well, I always used to beat my Dad whenever I played with him! My best memory of the game is doing a full-length race at Monaco as Juan-Pablo Montoya, which I won

I recall I played Sony's F1 2001 when I was very young... I only played on Monaco and Melbourne for some reason. For fun

Some iOS games, yes. Mainly Grand Theft Auto and Monkey Island. I need to get an iPad to play Baldur's Gate.

I may have posted this before, but anyone have F1 Career Challenge? It redid 1999-2003 with you as a driver, and had some absolutly insane development challenges. Basically whatever new part you were testing would fail, and you would have to keep from binning it! All that being said the cars were pretty equal. I once finished 2nd in the WDC in a Prost!

Interlagos was the track for me However, if you raced at Monaco and set the weather to monsoon, you could easily convince yourself that you are in fact a driving god

I've been playing FIFA 07 again (the newest football game I own) on the PS2, and I've noticed some erm, interesting names for some of the footballers on there. In my Ipswich Town manager mode, I signed a midfield player from my youth squad with the surname of 'Southern'. I didn't check what his first name was. It was, and this is no word of a lie, Chav. That's right, in the FIFA world, some mother has named their son Chav.

It gets better than that. I've just signed a young Polish midfielder from Real Betis, and his first name is...Semen.

Fifa 07 was the last Fifa game that I didn't own, it's infact the only of the last 10 Fifa games that I didn't own, although my brother technically owned Fifa 08, I had PES2008.

The randomly generated names on Fifa 07 is responsible for the name of Diego Alvarez Torrente...this was on the PSP version. Fun fact for you there...

I'm toying with the idea of getting Chivalry: Medieval Warfare now...I watched my mate play it and seeing him crush some skulls with a giant warhammer looked like fun.

Speaking of randomly generated names, NHL 2K3 probably has the worst ever generator for them. Most of the Finnish-sounding names are given to guys from Sweden (understandable), Norway (mmm ok), Switzerland (wat?), Germany (dafuq?) and sometimes even Belgium (go home NHL 2K3, you're drunk!), while most Finnish players have either Swedish/German names or completely nonsensical ones (like Niall Jaas-kelainen).

In fact, I might just boot up my most recent franchise game in it and see what are the oddest names at the moment.

Not that it bothered me much, he was an absolute boss goalkeeper. 7 goals conceeded in all competitions in 56 appearances.

Thanks to the limited player generation database however, I ended up with what I can only assume were two brothers; both were named Vukovic, had the same place of birth and were only about a year apart. Other gems included a world class centre-back called Billy Connolly (although he was from Republic of Ireland instead of Scotland), and a midfielder called Jack Bauer (albeit from Austria).

All this talk of randomly generated names reminds me of the AI driver names in GT5 (I think there was even a thread about this in the Perry McCarthy section). One of the features of B-Spec mode was that your drivers would get randomly generated names that you could choose from, so I spent quite a while on choosing a team of drivers that includes such drivers as K. Kobayashi, V. Petrov, S. Yamamoto and D. Grassi.

I'm currently playing Forza Horizon and MY GOD ITS GOOD.

Niall is just wrong, but (except for the hyphen) surely there's nothing wrong with Jaaskelainen? After all, there's a Finnish (football) goalkeeper called Jussi Jääskeläinen.

Well yes, that was a rather poor example, as the only thing wrong with the surname is the hyphen. As soon as I find my PS2 memory card I'll give you far more outlandish names.

Well, Germany has a long history of Turkish immigrants, so I don't think that a Turkish-sounding German should sound exotic anymore.

I just remembered why I stopped playing FIFA 07 the first time around: Andy Grey's bathplugging commentary and snide comments drive me up the wall.

Not that Clive Tyldesley is any better.

Andy Townsend's commentary pisses me off the most on the Fifa games, just like in real life I suppose.

In short, yes - to the point that while India may have a billion people to choose from, their national football team is catastrophically weak. Ditto Pakistan. Cricket is utterly dominant in the Indian subcontinent and its world diaspora. If you want further proof, look at the national cricket teams of countries like Norway and Canada - Patels, Mohammeds and Singhs everywhere, because they're made up entirely of Indian subcontinental immigrants or their descendents who brought the enthusiasm for the game with them, whereas amongst the indigenous population knowledge that cricket even exists is almost zero (or, if it does, it's "that weird game that they play in England and India, isn't it?")

So it's also no surprise that there's been Asian-derived players in the England cricket team for years (going back to before the war, even, e.g. the Nawab of Pataudi Sr. who played for England before India was independent, then for India later on) - whereas Asian players in the England football team are so far unheard of and will continue to be, unless there's been a dramatic development in the last few years since I stopped paying much attention to them.

Asian or players who could have played for England either haven't made it (Michael Chopra), or elected to play for their parents' team (Zesh Rehman played for England under 18, 19, 20, but then chose to play for Pakistan). There have been plenty of England football players from West Indian backgrounds (such as John Barnes and Luther Blissett, both born in Jamaica) though. I'm sure that one day we'll see British Asians in the national team (just trying to think if any British Asians have represented Scotland or Wales...apparently Neil Taylor, whose mother is from India, played for Wales and Great Britain). If Luciano Bacheta (F2 champion) ever makes it to F1 he'll be the first British Asian to do so.

Ah, Fifa commentary...I hate all the English commentators, but instead of turning it off, I switched it to French! As a Hibernian fan, it's perfect that Hervé Mathoux's player expert co-commentator is Franck Sauzée

PES has always had better commentary. Peter Brackley is miles better than any of the numpties EA hire to do FIFA commentary. It also would have been nice had he lived longer to have Kenneth Wolstenholme commentating on some video games. If Brackley isn't an option then Gary Bloom would be another better alternative than the norm. Also, they need to get rid of this generic modern music on football games nowadays and bring back a 90s House/Eurodance soundtrack! Something like...
