L'Equipe wrote:Voeckler "perplexed" by Moreno statement

New Williams F1 Team driver Frederic-Maxime Voeckler has responded to statements made by former driver Daniel Moreno, which left him "perplexed" as to the contract situation with his team.

"I don't understand Mr Moreno," said Voeckler. "I have a contract with the majority shareholder of the team. Mr Moreno was released by Williams, and I was hired to take his position. All the paperwork is here. I am officially a Williams driver. I'm a little but confused why he is saying he is still a Williams driver, as I've talked to [Andrew] Spokes once since arriving, and the team is also indicating Spokes isn't leaving. So it must be Moreno."

Williams team owner Klaus Mann was unavailable to comment at the time of going to press.

Klaus Mann: FMV IS a Williams driver

After an article reputedly reporting a resolution of 'trouble' at Williams, seat holder Klaus Mann has come out to say that the 'rumours' are indeed true.

"Moreno is no longer a Williams driver" said Mann "His performance compared to Spokes as a World Champion is not acceptable. We are encouraging him to seek employment elsewhere. "

As for allegations that Williams are hiring a driver 'not used to the car', Mann announced "Frederic Maxime Voeckler is a perfectly capable driver, as he has proved at Gauthier. I feel hiring him is the right decision"

Moreno "livid" at Williams firing, says that they will never win another championship without him
After his unexpected firing from Williams, Daniel Moreno was obviously unhappy after sending out a press conference two days earlier saying that he was to drive for the team for the rest of the season. Moreno will not sue for wrongful dismissal, as he already signed a waiver back in 1996 disclosing this, and Moreno said that taking the issues to court would be "incredibly stupid." Instead, Moreno has gone out and said that Williams will never win a championship without his help. "It's quite obvious that they need me to design the chassis," before spewing out a number of expletives.

12. Frederic-Maxime Voeckler (Williams) - 1:26.413

26. Geoff Grove (Minardi) - 1:28.592
DNQ Lawrence Tucker (Volga) - 1:28.750
DNQ Johan Gustafsson (Gauthier) - 1:29.028

Rory McAllister snatches pole position from his teammate Davies in the late stages of the second session as McLaren locks out the front row yet again. Douglas is right there, however, and it looks like a three-way fight for the win tomorrow (in possibly wet conditions). Voeckler's Williams debut went rather poorly, but he will certainly acclimate to the car as quickly as he can. Jorg Scrattenheim ran very well and will start tenth.

Masta Valsattis, the veteran driver currently driving for Benetton in the F1RGP2C has stepped down from his role as seatholder at Minardi. Valsattis has been the team's seatholder since the inception of the position in 1995.

Basically, the seatholder positions at Minardi and Sauber are now open to whomever wants to have them (first come, first served). I trust you guys to be gentlemen and not snap up more than one team unless absolutely necessary. For those who need reminding, seatholders are allowed to make driver decisions for the teams that they are attached to. That's about it. For now, I will be the acting seatholder for both Minardi and Sauber.

Moreno favourite to replace Von Gottorp at Jordan
With Moreno out of Williams, there is now a sudden hunt for a drive for the two time (and defending) champion. Bookkeepers place him most likely to sign with Jordan, as even though Von Gottorp has been decent, his age has become an issue. Ferrari also remain a favourite, but with Douglas and Takagi doing a good job there, it seems unlikely that he will come in and replace any of the drivers. McLaren also remains similarly unlikely.

I have no idea what I was thinking running the British GP as the eighth round of the season, when it clearly says that the United States GP is the eighth round on the wiki. Thus, I have changed Britain to round 8, and moved Road America to Round 9, which makes no sense geographically. Oh well.
