Nah, seriously speaking, God Save the Queen is not that bad. The melody is decent, and the lyrics may sound outdated - but I love the lyrics for the second verse, that I believe is almost never sang because it's not politically correct. The whole verse smells of "we are the best and the rest of the world hates us, may they go to hell!" and that's what I love about national anthems It asks God to defend the Queen, "scatter her enemies, confound their politics, frustrate their knavish tricks"

A very patriotic anthem. But sadly, most English people are not in the least patriotic. And the Queen, I don't see why people don't like her, she earns the country millions of pounds in tourism and she doesn't do much anyway. God save the Queen is good but not the best, I feel Rule Britannia would be more apt.

kostas22, technically Scotland does not have an official national anthem (neither do England or Wales, for that matter), as God Save the Queen is the national anthem of the collective body known as the United Kingdom. Scotland and Wales might have adopted various songs as anthems, but strictly speaking they are not officially national anthems, although if the Scottish assembly wanted to, it could name a particular anthem as its national anthem (but they can't actually agree on what it should be).

I won't complain if Alonso wins though, because he's leading the championship and consistently scoring podiums in a car that's probably somewhere in the midfield. He's clearly the best driver in the sport.

The Mugello test did coincide with a number of updated parts, most notably a modified exhaust system, tighter rear bodywork and modifications to the brake ducts and turning vanes that hang off them, so it is certainly possible that the F2012 has improved in performance since then. I guess that the best indication will be how well Massa performs - given that he looked much more confident in the car in Monaco, it suggests that some of the previous instability that was noted during testing and the early races is being eliminated, and the car seems to be responding more predictably to set up changes.

Going back to the race, an interesting point:

Yesterday was the eighth time Michael Schumacher tried to equal Senna's record of six wins at Monaco. In at least half of his attempts (2002 through 2006, with the exception of 2005) he had a good enough car to win the race; you can argue yesterday he also had it. In three of these five attempts he didn't manage to set the fastest time, even when his car clearly was the class of the field (2002 and 2004); in the other two he was fastest, but couldn't start from pole (2006 and 2011).

It looks like it's a cursed race for him!

Also the UK Conservative government would probably try to block a move for us to stop using God Save the Queen completely, because they're anti-Scottish and don't want us to abandon their English institutions. I'm sure they've claimed at one point that disowning GSTQ would be unlawful and we would still be bound to use God Save the Queen as a member of the United Kingdom.
