Review:
Another crazy race with profound implications on the both championship races. Have we come to expect anything less from the F1RGP2C? Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself. James Davies wins again, reaffirming his position at the top of the standings.

Positives:
James James Davies: A nice win for Davies, who was never really challenged for the entire race. Davies extends his lead in the championship over Douglas and McAllister.

Tom Douglas: Despite narrowly avoiding disaster after colliding with Voeckler on the front straight and knocking off his front wing, Douglas held on to finish second for Ferrari in his return from injury.

Rory McAllister: Rory McAllister was nearly taken out in the da Silva/Jougaseki collision; luckily for McLaren, McAllister continued to finish on the podium, which will buoy their hopes in the Constructors'.

Damon Cannon: Brilliant drive from the Jordan driver, who continues to impress for Jordan.

Jörg Scrattenheim: Scrattenheim drove very well today, and was unlucky to miss out on points in front of DAMS' home crowd. DAMS has had a fine season, and will hope to strike at the upper midfield for next season.

Negatives:
Kazuhiko Takagi: What a miserable race for the Japanese driver. Takagi's race began with an electrical problem that forced him to the back of the field and he never recovered. Takagi's inability to fight back through the field will cost Ferrari in the Constructors'.

Frederic-Maxime Voeckler: Voeckler has been fairly decent as Moreno's replacement, and he was doing quite well until he strayed in the path of Tom Douglas' while being lapped. Douglas popped into the air but escaped with just a broken front wing, but Voeckler amassed four penalty points for his troubles.

Yuuri Jougaseki: Yuuri Jougaseki easily wins Reject of the Race for France after one of the dumbest mistakes I have ever seen in the F1RGP2C. Jougaseki basically pulled a Robert Anderson and reentered the circuit directly into the path of Pablo da Silva, causing a huge crash which knocked da Silva out of the race.

Tom Douglas: 19-24
Rory McAllister: 25-28

Penalties:
+1 to Lawrence Tucker for blocking Damon Cannon
+1 to Emanuele Nicchi for blocking Pablo da Silva
+7 to Yuuri Jougaseki for unsafe reentry, causing a collision with Pablo da Silva and blocking
+4 to Frederic-Maxime Voeckler for blocking Tom Douglas and causing a collision

Even though FMV made that mistake with Douglas, we can see with Spokes' results that the car is basically garbage and can't run at the front. Doesn't look too good for the rest of the year.

In all honesty, it should be Spokes and not Takagi in that second Ferrari. He's a world-class driver who deserves a title-winning car.

Robert Anderson!

Seriously though, Argentinian Gonzalo Solari is interested in the drive. He is the 1995 Brazilian F3 and 1997 F3 Sudamerica champion, as well as finishing in third place in the 1996 F3 Sudamerica championship and four starts at Macau, including a 7th place in 1995 and 10th in 1997. He's currently running solidly in the midfield in F3000 for Perma Powerteam.

Seeing as Daniel Moreno has laughed off the idea of driving for Minardi, Sven Rydell has conceded defeat on that move. Solari will replace Grove for the rest of the season as a result.

James James Davies keeps on rolling in Austria…

Positives:
James James Davies: Well, Davies Domination is back on again, and it doesn't look like anyone is going to stop him at the moment. It was just a dominant win for Davies; the only hiccup was that McAllister took the lead off the line. But Davies quickly passed him and never looked back.

Tom Douglas: Any hopes of Douglas catching Davies for the title requires that Douglas win races, and that simply isn't happening right now.

Kazuhiko Takagi: Takagi responded to his critics by finishing on the podium and beating ex-Ferrari driver Rory McAllister. Takagi's championship hopes are all but dead, but his job is safe for now.

Leonhard von Gottrop: von Gottorp was able to pip Pablo da Silva for sixth place and drove quite well.

Pablo da Silva: da Silva had a fantastic qualifying result, and it's a shame that he wasn't able to convert it into points. da Silva is one of the many drivers in line for a top drive if any of the current drivers drop out.

Negatives:
Rory McAllister: McAllister's once promising championship hopes took a big hit with a disappointing fourth place today. Davies proved that the McLaren could easily beat the Ferraris, but McAllister was unable to do so.

Ron Mignolet: Mignolet spun off early on in the race and languished in the lower midfield for the entire race. Not the best race for the young Belgian.

Benetton: A bad double-DNF for the Benetton team who are trying to keep ahead of Jordan and Williams.

Arrows: Well, that was awful, yet again. Reject of the Race for them.

Austria:
Pole: James Davies
Leaders:
Rory McAllister: 1-4
James Davies: 5-30
Tom Douglas: 31-32
James Davies: 33-

Penalties:
+1 to Emmanuele Nicchi for blocking Tom Douglas
+1 to Niko Nurminen for blocking James James Davies

Hey look, a water leak again! Look at Prost - another engine failure! Sigh.
9th place is nice.

Damon Cannon wrote:Gah. I got a decent start, but at the end of the first lap the gears started jumping out of position. After 5 laps, the gearbox was ruined, and that was the end of my race. More points down the swanee.

The Nurburgring has always been an inauspicious place for James Davies and it was more of the same this time around, with Tom Douglas finally breaking a string of eight straight McLaren pole positions. Davies will start alongside him and his teammate will start third.
