So, judging by the fact that Bridgestone suggests that Sauber look to be the best at preserving their tyres, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sauber doing reasonably well in race trim. At the very least, the suggestion by Bridgestone that Sauber could get away with running a softer compound in Q3, and still be able to run a race stint on that tyre without the times dropping off too badly, means that they could give the big 4 teams a bit of trouble in qualifying as well.
So, based on that, I reckon that a points finish for Sauber at Bahrein is on the cards, barring mechanical problems or accidents.

I always thought of Sauber as the 5th team. A clearly 5th team, with podiums not out of the question.

Probably Sauber thought of this when they gave de la Rosa a drive (next to Cowboyashi) ;)

 I knew there was a reason! - but wouldn't Heidfeld have been better, in that case?

I am pro de la Rosa. If he turns out to be to slow (to old), Bertrand Baguette will be keen to replace him. F1 needs a Belgian driver with a name like French bread!
(Going slightly off topic, mes excuses.)

I'm notoriously bad at these things, but let's try:

I'll add it next round. For this round MLP will not count in the results. Since introducing it now before Bahrain will bring an unfair advantage (i.e you and a few other people) it might bring up quite a few questions

Good idea. I'll lock the Minor League Premiership thread to avoid confusion.

I think it's a good idea to amalgamate all the various prediction topics into one thread per race. And BTW I think Super Aguri's fantasy game sounds like fun - go enter it.

I also wonder, once the race weekend starts, whether we need separate threads for ROTR, DBTM and IIDOTR. But hey, it's your forum, I'm just the SA&SGPA.

You may have a point there... I can't email the Captain (who does the ROTR) and I don't remember who does the DBTM (sorry! ), but I'm OK to stop opening an IIDOTR thread per race, if we can make an "announcement" ("sticky") thread with the rules for the several awards. Am I right in thinking only Kuwashima can do that?

Another comment: it's a prove of vitality just how many ideas members are putting out. Top marks, everyone!

MLPS: Whats this one for?

Red Bull apparently being the best car again and gosh darnit i hate it when every year Red Bull are apparently better than last yaer, and at the beginning of last year i decided "Sod it, I get this wrong every time" and bloody hell they ended up with a good car albeit Vettel smashing it up in melbourne.

So they'll be up at the front like everyone thinks

Ferrari are apparently thirsty beasts, therefore they will either blast away at the start and then run dry, or pace themselves and not be at the front :-S

Since I stumbled across this article on the F1Technical forums, I thought that it might well be worth throwing it into the mix and seeing what people make of it. It is from Nick Heidfeld, who had an interview with the German "Auto Motor und Sport" website (slightly mangled translation here http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... l=de&tl=en )
Interestingly, although he says that Ferrari seem to have a good car, he then pointed out that it does seem to be sensitive to the track conditions and layout (with the car suffering from some slight understeer). Nick then goes on to say that he thinks that the Red Bull car is in fact the best of the field (saying that the fact that the Bahrein race package didn't come in until so late held the car back), being stable and well balanced both in the slow and high speed corners.
The Mclaren, according to him, can match the others in the high speed corners, but struggles with excessive pitch sensitivity in the low speed corners, although the recent upgrades are supposed to have helped. The Sauber looks like a quick but difficult car to drive, in his opinion, looking very unsetled over the bumps, and he is worried that Kobayashi could very easily throw it off the track.
He thinks that, despite the relatively conservative approach, the Toro Rosso looks surprisingly good, whilst the Williams is average overall - not good in any particular area, but equally not the worst in any area either. The Renault looks nervous, and a bit tricky to drive, but Nick thinks it'll be a mid field runner once the upgrades are in place, whilst the Force India looks to have decent handling in the high speed turns, but is (again) a bit skittish, although he thinks that may be down to how Sutil drove the car during the tests.
Finally, he thinks that the VR-01 is terrrible, with no balance at all (saying that it is worse then his 2004 Jordan) whilst the T127 probably has quite a bit more downforce then the VR-01, but poor mechanical grip, lacking traction.

So, that might mke for interesting reading for some - although I think that I'll wait until the free practise sessions are over to make up my mind fully.
