It's nothing to do with that - we would have a close championship this year whatever system was in use - 7 rounds in and no one has won more than 2...

It's actually less close now than it would have been - under the current points system, 5 drivers are within 25 points (the number of points awared for a win); under the old system, 8 drivers are within 10 points (the number available for a win)...

Yes, its extremely annoying when people praise the new points system like that. You shouldn't need to know much maths to realise that it is the ratios not the points differences which are important in a points system.

So, despite the size of some of the gaps, keep in mind that this system has different ratios than the current F1 points system, putting a greater emphasis on getting on the podium, and that the most points a driver can gain or lose is 35 (and, of course, most a constructor can gain or lose would be 51). I might try applying this to the 2009 season... hmmm...

I would implement the TM Master Cup series points system (this is my Youtube show... it's hybrid NASCAR/WTCC/F1 madness) or the NASCAR points system and see what kind of havoc that would wreak, except both systems add points based on leading laps and who led the most, and I don't know those off the top of my head.

I don't like those systems where everyone gets points. Regarding chase, I know that NASCAR has it as 10/36. Considering that current F1 season has 19 races, 5 races should be equivalent for that?
