Glad this thread is here, as there seems to be quite a bit of BS flying around that standings are so close this year because of the new points system. It's nothing to do with that - we would have a close championship this year whatever system was in use - 7 rounds in and no one has won more than 2...

Eight drivers within a win of the lead. Epic.

It's actually less close now than it would have been - under the current points system, 5 drivers are within 25 points (the number of points awared for a win); under the old system, 8 drivers are within 10 points (the number available for a win)...

It is. 1980's synthpop is all the rage again, despite the lycra and fake jewelry.

Sorry to tread on Aerond's toes, but it was bothering me that we don't have an up to date 2002 points system standings. Also this thread has gone way off topic so i'm going to attempt to drag it back.

Constantinople:
1. Hamilton
2. Button
3. Webber
4. Schumacher
5. Rosberg
6. Kubica

Drivers Championship:
1. Webber - 30
2. Button - 28
3= Vettel - 24
3= Hamilton - 24
5. Alonso - 23
6. Kubica - 16
7= Massa - 14
7= Rosberg - 14
9. Schumacher - 7
10. Sutil - 2

Constructor's Championship:
1. Red Bull - 54
2. McLaren - 52
3. Ferrari - 37
4. Mercedes - 21
5. Renault - 16
6. Force India - 2

Retirements aren't costing RBR quite as much thanks to McLarens mediocre (7th-8th) finishing positions at some races.

Yes, its extremely annoying when people praise the new points system like that. You shouldn't need to know much maths to realise that it is the ratios not the points differences which are important in a points system.

Canada: Cynon Shenanigans Point System

34-26-20-14-10-8-6-4-2-1, with 1 point for pole. I may consider another point for Fastest lap.

Pole Points:
Webber - 4
Vettel - 3
Hamilton - 1

So, despite the size of some of the gaps, keep in mind that this system has different ratios than the current F1 points system, putting a greater emphasis on getting on the podium, and that the most points a driver can gain or lose is 35 (and, of course, most a constructor can gain or lose would be 51). I might try applying this to the 2009 season... hmmm...

Drivers & Constructors: (With Pole Points added)

Hamilton - 141
Button - 140
Webber - 138
Alonso - 120
Vettel - 119
Kubica - 88
Rosberg - 84
Massa - 82
Schumacher - 38 (Woa big gap)
Sutil - 23
Liuzzi - 11
Petrov - 8
Barrichello - 7
Buemi - 4
Alguersuari - 3
Kobayashi - 1
Hulkenberg - 1

Duckegg for everyone else.

Constructors:

McLaren - 281
Red Bull - 257
Ferrari - 202
Mercedes - 122
Renault - 96
Force1ndia - 34
Williams - 8
Toro Rosso - 7
Sauber - 1
HRT - Duckegg
Virgin - Duckegg
Lotus - Duckegg

---

I would implement the TM Master Cup series points system (this is my Youtube show... it's hybrid NASCAR/WTCC/F1 madness) or the NASCAR points system and see what kind of havoc that would wreak, except both systems add points based on leading laps and who led the most, and I don't know those off the top of my head.

A detailed .HTML file showing what the points would be like if F1 used NASCAR's points system. The most a driver can gain or lose with 24 cars in the field is 99 points...

So, it's thus...

185-170-165-160-155-150-146-142-138-134-130-127-124-121-118-115-112-109-106-103-100-97-94-91, with 5 points for leading a lap and 5 more for leading the most.

The Earnings tab on the far right is how many points the driver accumulated through the Cynon Shenanigans Points System.

I will update this HTML file as the season progresses. I might also see what happens if NASCAR's ridiculous "Chase for the Cup" system (that every NASCAR fan except my dad HATES) gets implemented, and see how much havoc that wreaks on the points.

I don't like those systems where everyone gets points. Regarding chase, I know that NASCAR has it as 10/36. Considering that current F1 season has 19 races, 5 races should be equivalent for that?

That's what I was thinking. Last 5 races to try out the "Chase" for F1, and make all the F1 fans realize how damn lucky they are to NOT have it.

I did the math and, for the NASCAR points system, there is still one race left before the Chase for the... F1 world championship... begins. I rounded up because it came to 13.72 races. Liuzzi and Petrov are fighting for 12th place, a measly three points separate them, with Alguersuari still looking at a Chase berth. So the NASCAR "Chase" system would start at Singapore!

But of special note, the Cynon Shenanigans Point System would show Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton tied for the lead.

F1 Championship if it used the NASCAR Points System (Current). The Earnings tab on the far right is the Cynon Shenanigans Point System.

Under the current NASCAR points system, Sakon Yamamoto scores points.
Under your system, he does not.
Therefore, your system is better than the real NASCAR system.
