Michael had nothing to gain by stepping into Massa's car. Michael has proved himself time and again and a few more wins, even if it is over Kimi, would mean little. As for his bike racing crash injuries, the word on the street may have been "Michael was banged up a bit" but Michael would have known he had breaks and was in no shape to hop into a F1 car. He would have known there would be no way he could take the punishment. Not with fractures in his neck. Any doctor could have told him that right up front. So, he would have known racing was a non-starter.

Who would have something to gain? Who else but that megalomaniac Bernie! Valencia hasn't been the spectator draw the organizers had hoped and with Renault potentially banned from the race, (dropping out Alonso), even fewer people would be tempted to show. But raise the hopes that Michael might show and ticket sales jump. Ultimately, Bernie profits big-time. No wonder when Michael made his announcement he was going to drive Bernie was one of the first to jump on the bandwagon and praise him...

...I should have smelled something right up front but instead I was suckered in just like everyone else....

I like this one. Maybe it's Ferrari trying to get back on the good side of Bernie after the FOTA episode?

While part of me is of course gutted not to be seeing Herr Schumacher back on an f1 grid again (and to be honest, when is another opportunity going to come up like this when he is fit?), the other half of me is excited for Badoer. Hopefully after the race he'll be crying tears of joy rather than sorrow.

Saw this happening after Ferrari found they were not allowed to let Schumacher test.....

If Badoer manages to get 4th place .... why not creat a new category on the site just for F1 rejects that have managed to un-reject themselves, it would be a shame to delete Luca Badoer's profile

Predictable in a way, but you'd think they'd at least mention the replacement in passing, if not spend ages talking about him.

Wow, that would be unprecedented...I'm all for any extra podcasts. On Badoer, casual fans remember him for driving some Ferrari road cars on Top Gear and that's it. But I'm ecstatic, when I saw the news in a newspaper on the train home today it made my day, it will be cool to see how he fares against Kimi and to see him get some points, if not the historic first removal of an F1 reject profile for exiting reject status.

I saw this on the news today.
First, when they said Schumacher was coming back after all, I was like "Ah, shite!", but then there was a split second in which I thought "Hey, but, does that mean Badoer is going to drive?", before they mentioned it, and then I was overjoyed!

YAY!!! Hooray for Luca Badoer. It's like the kind of bad luck gets lucky for once.

In the German press, Schumacher's manager Willi Weber was quoted that this motorcycle accident that Michael had in February of this year while testing in Cartagena was the worst accident of his motorsports career.

Here is hoping that he fully recovers from it. It is strange though, that undiscovered injuries were only discovered while he was testing the year-old Ferrari at Mugello recently.

And of course, I'll be cheering Luca Badoer on!!!

So, I've been busy writing my dissertation and away on holiday, and I come back to find that not much has really been happening......

Anyway, I am delighted for Luca Badoer, and I promise all of you, I will do something outrageous if he wins. I rarely follow the front of the grid, and I rarely get emotional about winners, but if Badoer does win I might need a tissue or two, and I'm saying that in all seriousness.

It's very unlikely that he will win, but I really hope he beats Kimi Raikkonen, as this would be the moment of the year as far as I am concerned. He really deserves this chance, but it will be so odd for me to support a Ferrari, it's going to be very strange. Let's hope that Ferrari give him more than one opportunity, as I would be quite happy not to see Schumacher return.

According to wikipedia, Imola hosted the Italian GP in 1980.
Anyway, the last italian to win on italian soil (Imola in this case) was Elio De Angelis in 1985.

I'm really pleased to read that piece of news, since having no certainty of continuing after Valencia would have generated a lot of unnecessary pressure. Also, Valencia is going to be tougher for him than say Spa or Monza in my opinion, because he hasn't driven there before, and in spite of its bland nature, I don't think it's the easiest track to learn.
